Sold car - unable to tax on v62

Sold a car, don't have v5. Come to tax on v62 for customer, it wont let us. Any way around this?

Car is currently untaxed, post office says error code 6006.

I have heard you can tax with DVLA over phone is this correct?

I can't help but can advise

if I ever take a car into stock with no v5 I open a dvla chat to confirm its showing as in trade then mark the time and date the chat was made on my white board

Unfortunately you won’t be able to tax the car unless it’s in trade. It’s a nightmare mate. Dvla take the Michael with the log books if your car isn’t in trade. If you ring them they’ll just say you should’ve not bought a car without the v5. That’s what they said to me anyway. I had to wait 4-5 weeks for the log book to come through and then sell the car.

under gdpr this information will never be forwarded. 

if car came from customer direct I always electronically transfer it into my trade before I allow them to leave my premises and give them a paper copy of all details, sorted then

if no v5 offered unless there's a definitive trail I won't take it because its even needed if I weigh it in as we get paid direct into account, too many baddies out there these days
