  1. You’d think he’d remove the Aston Barclay auction sticker off the screen at the very least. If he can’t be arsed doing that bet he hasn’t even dipped it for oil. And a gallon of petrol doesn’t cost the earth either!

The sight of those Micrawaves turnes my stomach

Rattling engine, rattling bouncing suspension.....feeling sick already

  2. Anybody heard of, or used this company: 'used cars lancs limited' ?

Just stumbled upon their website, their cars are underpriced and too good to be true. If it's a scam how have they gotten away so long, seem to up and running quiet a while from my investigations. If not what am I missing?

Surely someone on here knows something about them

  3. I don't see the problem. Get a used sensor on eBay or from the breakers and if that doesn't fix it change the timing chain and sprockets.

If it's the chain you'll know as it rattles like hell

This is a two hr job at most, and really quiet straight forward. I've personally done many in the past and happen to have a new kit in a box I'll take £30 for.

    Easy fix either way

3M. Green then blue. All you’ll ever need. Shit load of fillers.

Same here, except I use the yellow in between, then after the blue I use a good quality wax such as autoglym high def or similar to seal it all in in case the car sits around for 6 months.

Use Trizact 3000 to remove heavy scratches and use the new Rupes Bigfoot and Rupes pads.

Know the capabilities of 3M as I've used it for sooo long so slow to change.

auction4cars  i recently had some problems with my account due to bad health ,  it was restricted , i found anthony a great help, and he was able to sort things  for me  , hes worth an email

Got my account restricted for not collecting a car on time at Newport. Collection agent went tits up and left me in the lurch.

It was more that a bidding restriction too, couldn't log in at all. Nice way to treat a good customer who buys one or two a week and always pays within 3 hrs of winning a car.

Most of their cars are shit anyhow. And it's next impossible to get anyone on the phone to sort anything.

However I do like their website, easy to navigate, wish BCA would copy it

  6. Brexit is a mess just gone totally out of hand. There really is no solution, except a second referendum where it's result is 'stay in'

After over two years we are no nearer to a resolution and time is running out, getting an extension is only kicking the can down the road.

There cannot be a hard border between North and Southern Ireland which is the real issue. This WILL not be allowed to happen.

Any person in business should be taking this seriously, it WILL effect us all as the UK economy plunges into recession, multinational manufacturing and services relocate back inside the EU. It's happening already.

In fact it will effect every one. We will need a green card to go on holidays to Spain and a temporary driving permit to drive within the EU. The Euro will cost us more when we holiday abroad and our retired parents living in Tererief will no longer be able to do so

The list goes on and on and is far reaching and will effect every single sector from manufacturing, farming, haulage, services etc

Nobody really understands the full effects of Brexit if it does happen, and I for one hope we never do!

  7. I'm a member and find it just wastes my time checking in every night to see what has been uploaded. Anything I do buy is generally well described but fetches waay too much. Last car I purchased was 24 of August only I never ended up with it! I was the highest bidder but didn't make reserve, 2 days later they called me and offered it to me at my highest bid.

I agreed, wired them the payment and when I checked back to see if it had been received, I was told the car had been sold locally by another salesman!. It took half a dozen phone calls and over a month to get the payment back!

    I wasn't happy

  8. Their staff cannot differentiate 'retail ready" from 'trade' imo

I have often called them regarding cars advertised on Autotrader, rarely have any service history, paintwork repairs always required. (many visible from the photos)

They constantly monitor their prices on Autotrader so as to always be the cheapest. I have seen one car go through 2 price drops over a short period. Then waited a few more weeks till it dropped again and I bought it.

    Obviously it's working for them.

  9. Had a customer in a few months ago for a campbelt change on an A3. I told him it would be a 3 hr job at the very least. I wasn't around when he came to collect it later that evening. When he returned to pay the following day he was able to tell me exactly how long it took us to do the job! Thing had been recording everything from start to finish.

Mechanics need to be very careful, as not only is there footage being recorded but audio is also.

  10. I don't think you can compare profits month by month. I prefer to do it year on year.

Every month is different, this month you're easily sourced high profit Focus might be flying out the door, next month it could be the hard to find white Golf with lower margins. You need to adapt quickly and never put all your eggs (models) in the one basket

When stock is hard to source such as in January, are you not better offf with 500 profit than the 1000 you would have had in December, rather than an empty yard and nothing at all to sell.

Every sale is a lesson, you are always learning, even after my 25 years in this trade I get a buzz when a happy customer drives away in a good car only to post a 5* review days/weeks later.

I have sold cars with little or no profit which still made me feel good, I have also sold cars to not very nice people with descent profit I'd rather forget.

I think we're never happy, always greedy and always looking for more

    Hi all

Being recently made redundant from a long-term position, I've started to try to work at home due to very limited funds meaning I can not commit to a site.

I have a large, enclosed driveway and keep cars here - some of, not all, are for sale.

None of the vehicles are marked up and obviously there are no signs to suggest I am trading vehicles.

It is also the family home and we have lived here for 31 years.

Last month, a nosey, non-immediate neighbour (who happens to be chairman of the residents association - you know the type!) has become offended that I have a few cars which are kept on the driveway - ost of them out of sight.

He visited in person to say that "some of the residents" had raised it at the last meeting and it was his duty to tell me. He asked me what I'd like to tell them, of which I suggested that if it offends them come and see me and I'll happily talk to them. None of "them" have.

He then stated me that he "used to be a solicitor" and explained that I needed planning permission "which I would not get" to operate such a business from home.

A quick Google search indicates none of this is the case:

    https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/56/working_from_home

Today, another neighbour called me out of courtesy to let me know that this guy has now circulated an email to the residents of the lane of which I am excluded.

It explains about me and that I have been "reported". (Interestingly, the same neighbour who tipped me off about the email has also experienced issues with him - He said that residents were concerned about building work taking place in his rear garden, when only he and one other house can actually see it).

I'm considering lots of things as you can imagine, but the most realistic is reporting him for bullying and harassment as I think that he's the sneery type where things will only get worse.

    Has anyone else had this?

Any advice on where I stand appreciated.

    G.

I would personally visit each neighbour individually and put their mind at ease. Explain your intentions. Then turn up at the meetings so you know what's going on. If you stay away you don't know what lies he is spinning the neighbours.

After that a tall cylinder of LPG left leaking through his bedroom window, should put everything to sleep.

  12. Think this post would be more relevant in the doctors-magazine forum.

The carbon monoxide levels, as others have mentioned, are no worse than any inner city street on rush hour.

Think the ongoing stress related to this job will ultimately kill us, far before the effects of overexposure to carbon monoxide.

  13. Pre 2012 Auris are hideous looking, mirrors are mis-placed, gearstick on the dash. Nothing like the Corolla they replaced.

Worst engine is the 1.33 petrol which wouldn't pull the socks off a dead man. Otherwise reliable and guaranteed not to return once sold.

  14. Jersey IS part of UK where trade of goods is concerned

If you organise the delivery to him then you do not charge him the vat in the first place. You zero rate it for vat but he must provide proof or address etc.

If he organises collection from you, then you charge him vat, once he registers the car in Jersey and provides you with proof of this you then refund his VAT

  15. Lumps and lumps of cannabis under the back seat of a 92 Civic Bel-Air all those years ago.

Box of out of date condoms under the carpet of mk1 Fiesta back in the 90's

Since then just coins, jelly babies, and hundreds of printed pens with 'Acme Car Wash' or them or whatever.

Still waiting for the big one!..........(Willy Wonka golden ticket)
