  1. One of Todays job was changing some number plates on a car was actually me that fitted the previous ones but the guy wanted some fancy 3d ones when I fitted the previous set I used both green double sided tape and some plastic poly top screws which is my usual way some times replace the tape for foams pads or use screwcaps etc depends whats kicking about the place but normally used two methods of fitting and I like this method on my stuff Got the front off fairly easy but getting the rear off was a struggle one off the hardest one I've had and I've changed a few sets in my time eventually got it with a hairdryer and gentle pry what do you guys use to remove the stuck on ones ..seen some suggest dental floss etc on other forums on refitting I used some foam number plate pads from a caravan accessory shop that seem to have done the job only used them as was passing when needing some usual get rolls of tape from the factor but always open to suggestions what do you guys recommend for sticking them on or you think your better to screw on I've seen people even use velcro pads I used a hair dryer and some glue and tar remover to remove the sticky residue any other ideas . hope you all having a good busy weekend and thank you

  5. Sorry get what you meant now . And yes I agree the debt is scary over the last 20 years I've always tried to keep mine at a manageable level only working for myself and subcontracting work out to a local garage and self employed mechanic which seems to have worked but at the auctions all I'm hearing is ticking away or quiet or up and down.worst its been in years etc I also would like to take a moment to wish fellow traders on here years of success
  6. I think some insurance companies insist on a new mot vosa don't automatically remove them I've checked cat n and s cars on mot history and status site and both still show current mot I worked with a guy years ago who did write offs in a garage and a remember. a mondeo and a 106 having the log book notes section having the words this vehicle has been reassembled from the use of spares parts think they were cat c back in 1999 Ive never tried to apply for log book as I've never personally bothered with write offs though I've thought about a few projects from copart that looked cheap for personal use . Hopefully some one will have applied for log book for cat s be interesting to know the answer . Love what you said about the spanners i actually know qualifed mechanics and panel beaters like that and spray painters who think there professionals and can tell there work a mile of thats been the hardest part for me over the years finding decent mechanics etc One of the hardest parts over the years has been finding decent trades man mechanics etc at times I wish i did more training 20 years ago so I could be more hands on rather than just doing the buying and selling
  7. I also agree with nick its crazy how a car with major damage can be repaired to any standard and the the current mot used with no test etc on safety aspects of the repair .
  8. Will do it still seems a shame for the smaller staff down the food chain with wife's and family to support I guess as you say the big boys at fhe top of the tree always come out smelling of roses with any company calling it a day not just motor trade related
  9. I would say better to fresh mot it as well come sale time from a piece of mind point of view and also to give yourself reassurance but for test drives etc the current mot Would still.be valid
  10. I would have been generous and offered him £100 ha
  11. I was using a printed letter head and typing up my own on computer using microsoft word for sales and for repairs was using autodata invoices with the same letter heads the pads look interesting What about using a rubber stamp to add to the look
  12. Hi guys been reading in the background for months now lot of sensible conversations and nice decent guys here I wish you all years of success looks like Border cars is going to be another dealership gone we seem to be losing a few with Tom Vehicle sales and rental last year and now Border cars also noticed lookers are closing and selling a few of there showrooms seems the motortrade has went down hill in the last 10 years I personally have been involved in the motor trade on and off for years due to ill health at times so do some part time - back to full time again soon Im hearing a lot of guys saying its tough times at auctions etc and no where near as good as it was many years ago Whats all your thoughts
  13. No the current mot is still valid as far as I'm aware you can also now print out a copy of it once you have the v5 on the gov mot history website
