  1. Have you seen the photos on Facebook of the RAC van that tows a trailer with a petrol generator on board so they can recharge electric cars that have run out of power at the roadside! I have to say though that the acceleration is something to behold! A Tesla can out perform a super bike off the line. Simple buggers off! Amazing! That has to be addictive even if you can only do it once or twice!
  2. There are quite a few other things you need to think about as well. I was amazed how much additional admin there was to think about. What about a web site? Do you need one and can you make it yourself or will you have to pay someone? Dealer insurance and trade plates? Accounts with auction houses? Setting up trade accounts with AT, eBay etc. Email addresses, domain names and telephone numbers. All of these thinks suck your time and can be sorted. There is a wealth of information on here about how to do it all but don’t underestimate how long it all takes! Best of luck though if you decide to plough ahead!
  3. Morning folks Over the weekend someone asked me if I could sell their car for them. I just wondered what is the going percentage everyone might charge to do this? The car is pretty clean so won’t need much prep. Scrawf
  4. I have to be honest I was a bit confused at first too but I called Lawgistics and spoke with Joel. He was extremely helpful and sent me over samples of the booklets to read through. Why not get in touch with him directly and ask him your questions. http://www.lawgistics.co.uk/authors/joel-combes#sthash.keHyEQjI.dpbs You are on the hook from a CRA perspective anyway so the Lawgistics warranty adds a proper framework to that so your customer knows exactly what they should do and what they should expect. Adds a touch of professionalism.
  5. Maybe do a search? Or read down two threads?
  6. Tried it. Market place and FB Group postings. Not having much success!
  7. This link will take you to the 'Check your vehicle' for London's Ultra Low Emissions Zone and Low Emissions Zone: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle-35896?intcmp=35896 Presumably this is the most stringent so if your car passes here I presume that you should be OK in other cities?
  8. As I understand it diesel cars have to be Euro 6 compliant to be exempt from clean air zone and low emission zone charges. For a diesel to be Euro 6 compliant it cannot emit more than 80mg/km (0.08 grams per kilometre) of NOx gases, while a petrol can emit no more than 60mg/km. https://www.buyacar.co.uk/cars/euro-6-emissions-standard-cars/522/what-are-euro-6-emissions-standards-why-you-need-to-know So presumably selling diesels that are Euro 6 compliant should be OK? Trouble is that even BlueMotion cars seem to have higher emissions than that!
  9. Ah if only! Cheapest one I can find is over £400! Scrawf
  10. Morning Guys I have a 2007 Audi TT to sell but the Nav system screen doesn't work. Radio, phone etc all work fine and you can find the stations and change the volume off the display between the rev counter and speedometer so I think its just the screen or the connection to the screen that has failed. Replacement units are quite expensive so I wondered if anyone knew a reputable company that can repair these? Thanks for your help Scrawf
  11. Just thought I better add this as I just found the full policy on eBay links here: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/links-policy?id=4248 So it seems links are allowed but you can't brand them. Ups! Maybe this will get rejected then! What are the guidelines? Product videos Links to product videos are allowed as long as you follow these guidelines: You must be the owner of the underlying rights, including intellectual property rights, or be authorized to distribute it by the owners of such rights The video is specific to the product being sold, such as a product review, demonstration or installation video The video included in the listing must be either: An embedded video that uses HTML5 video while complying with eBay's active content requirements, or An external link directly to a video hosted on one of the following sites: YouTube Vimeo Brightcove Ustream Screencast.com Kizoa DailyMotion The video does not violate any eBay policy. Violations include videos that contain: Contact information, such as email addresses, phone numbers, or social media links Web addresses Adult content Links to prohibited items Payment services that are not accepted by eBay Malware or viruses Malicious scripts that redirect outside of eBay
  12. Morning Guys I think this might be useful to some of you. I was struggling to get a video embedded into my eBay listing. Managed to get some code to paste in using this tool http://www.isdntek.com/tagbot/YouTubeConverter.htm but eBay immediately rejected it as 'active content'. So I did a bit of digging and found that there is an alternative on a site called 'Flipper Tools' which is much simpler and seems to work much better. You can find it here: https://www.flippertools.com/ebayYoutube/embed-youtube-videos-in-ebay-listings.htm You simply generate the code and copy it in the the HTML editor section. You can then switch back to the Standard Editor and add your text and position everything. The other benefit of using this one is that it *seems* to work on mobile devices too! Certainly works on my iPhone. Give it a try and let me know if it works on your device! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143260376333 Scrawf
  13. Thanks guys. Thought as much! Doesn’t need to see the car in person? Wants to pay the whole amount via PayPal? Yeah I think I’ll skip this one! Thanks for the support! Scrawf
  14. Guys Bit of advice please. I got a lead today via Motors.co.uk and I replied via email with this: Hello David Simon here from Sundex Automotive. I received your enquiry via email from Motors.co.uk. I wondered if I could provide you with some more detail on the car? If you would like to speak with me today please call my mobile on: 07523******** It's a smashing little car. Less than 3 years old with only 32,000 miles and it's just been fully serviced and inspected at the main dealer (including breaks and aircon) and the road tax on these Polos at zero! So other than an MOT (due in July) you can enjoy a year of cost free motoring! There is more information and a video presentation on our website at https://www.sundexautomotive.co.uk/volkswagen-polo-1-4-tdi-bluemotion- Please have a look as let me know if you would like to arrange to come and view the car and take a test drive or alternatively (as I am getting quite a few enquiries) if you would like to reserve the car a deposit of £250 will secure it for you. I can arrange for you to pay that via a PayPal invoice. The remaining balance to be paid via bank transfer. Hope this is of help and let me know how you would like to proceed. Kind regards Simon I then got this response: Great!. please consider it sold and take the ads down off the site,i am buying it for my son and i am ready to pay your full asking price, i have read through the advert and i'm totally satisfied with it and i will be glad if you can get back to me fast, sadly i won't be able to come for the inspection and pick up due to my disabilities,i loss my hearing and being on a wheelchair but I have a courier agent that will help me to pick it up at your preferred location . Regarding the payment i can only pay via PayPal at the moment and I will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction. Kindly get back to me with your PayPal e-mail address, Name, Final Price you want for it and the pick up location so that i can inform the courier agent about it now? What worries me is that I know a PayPal transaction can be unwound. So I'm sure I would be better sticking to my guns and asking for the balance of the payment via bank transfer but I want to ask you guys what you think of this! Thanks Scrawf
  15. I keep logging in to the AT PayGo dealer portal expecting to see some analysis of how my ad is performing. The PayGo page page seems to promise this - see here: https://trade.autotrader.co.uk/motor-trade-pay-as-you-go-advertising-on-auto-trader/ The little video clips show 'New Lead Notifications' and 'Track Correspondence' etc but I can't find out how to access this through the dealer portal. Does it need switching on or something? Thanks Scrawf
  16. Guys Just wondering if any of you have had much (any) success with FaceBook / Instagram advertising? I've been setting up my website and connecting all my social media for the business and I notice that you can place an ad on FaceBook and pay to 'boost' it. It's quite cheap and the ad runs on both Instagram and FaceBook. You can specify the total budget, the demographic of the audience, the region you would like the ad to be boosted in and you can see analytics on how the ad is performing. So I was wondering if anyone else does this? I set one up yesterday and it went live overnight. I'll let you know how it gets on and tell you if any leads come through. Kind regards Scrawf I supposed if I go to CDX I'll learn all about it!
  17. Well not that much really. An afternoon and £120 for the year with Wix. It was actually fairy easy. Wix editor is simple to use. You don’t have to code anything and it’s quite intuitive. Scrawf Thanks very much! Did the boring stuff today. Privacy policy, Trading terms and conditions and Website policy. Glad they are done. I can now focus on developing the site for mor cars. Scrawf
  18. As I am just starting out I don't want to spend a lot on a website initially. Everyone I spoke to wanted to charge me between £400 and £50,000 for a website! So I thought bugger it and made my own! As I am only going to have a few cars for sale initially the admin should be manageable and as I grow I can add additional pages for each vehicle I have for sale. Eventually I hope I can get a professional site created but for now I think this will do the trick! Only took me an afternoon. Did it in Wix. Have a look and see what you think. I would welcome your feed back and comments for improvements and additions! www.sundexautomotive.co.uk Many thanks! Scrawf

Hello all. I thought it about time I introduced myself as I have been lurking around on the forum for several weeks now and I have decided to take the plunge as a full time dealer. I have to say that this forum has a wealth of information to help you get started and I would like to thank you all for sharing your expertise so generously! I have sold a few cars in the past as a side line and a hobby but I was recently made redundant so I need something to keep me busy. I've always be interested in cars and because I've had several Lotus and kit cars I'm pretty handy with the tool box! Initially I'm going to start off trading from home and try and grow my business from there without taking major financial risks. So probably building up to trading six cars over the next six months or so. I have my trade insurance sorted and my trade plates came today. Paygo account with AT and free account with CG set up. Also planning to use FaceBook Groups to advertise as it relatively easy and quick to do. Purchased my first car from a recent Aston Barclay auction and did the valet myself! Already up for sale! Going to try and stick with VAG cars initially as I'm familiar with them and I have VCDS to diagnose issues and problems. It's been a steep learning curve but I'm really enjoying it so far. Some of the things I wanted to do have taken a bit longer than expected! Had to learn about configuring additional email addresses and 0333 phone numbers for my business. Creating logos for business cards, FaceBook pages and photo banners has taken quite a while as I'm not a graphic designer! And I spent yesterday learning how to create, edit and voiceover movies so I could use them as a marketing tool. Here's an example - let me know what you think: I'm looking forward to being able to contribute to the forum and again thanks guys for giving me the confidence to have a go! Kind regards Scrawf
