thought it was a lot more than a few hundred pounds these days

Not at all and apparently the turn around time is pretty quick at the moment, I've heard of people recently getting sorted within a month.

  2. Had an interesting one recently where a car that I bought had been described with a misfire; when I turned up to collect it it turns out to be a total non-starter. Bit of messing around and found that the fuel pump relay had been physically removed, even though the car had been driven in! One of the boys walking around the yard passes comment while I was there 'our workshop wanted to buy that.. they were gutted!' Quick fix with a relay, fired it up, surprise surprise with no misfire, and drove it the 100 or so miles home trouble free.

Make of that what you will..

    Question:

If someone presents a vehicle to you for part exchange and they tell you they had had Supagard/GardX/DiamondBrite etc etc applied when they bought it, would you ever consider offering a higher price than you would otherwise have offered because of it?

I think I already know the answer, but I'm curious.

Why not give the guys at Auto Trader a call, they're the experts on valuing part exchanges these days..

But to answer your question, No!

Chris , Thats their way of 'upgrading' dealers to paid adverts - If you pay, I knew thats how they would make money - but just got this in the post '

    Basic ' Anonymous email - 12 Images

Enhanced - Full Phone Number & Email address - 100 Photos  Pricing tool -compete branding - cannot be conquested (Keeps competitors off your listing!)

Featured -  All the enhanced Plus Conquest competitors - featured placement on SRP's

Doesn't give prices but 200,000 + Cars 3,000 dealers [ Including me :) - Had a few leads on 'older cars' that 'show GOOD BUY' However 'buyers' still want to know BEST PRICE- But Not a single one has turned up - called me - or replied to any of my emails)

Thanks Umesh, makes total sense now! B)

  5. Big fan of the likes of the Leaseplan and Lex lines, had some beauties out of there before now that everyone else was scared of buying. Make them look cheap compared to everything else. Most people now are switched onto the fact that they are 1 owner & full service history so appreciate what they are buying

easiest way of getting out of a test drive if they turn up is insist you need to see their driving licence, very few p0eople carry this so it often sorts the dreamers out who would need to speak to the wife anyway:)

I've used this loads of times too.. not as a general rule, more when i get the feeling that they aren't as 'committed' as they should be..

HPI Spec check is the BEST Thing I ever found out about .. In fact I rave about it :) Can't buy a car without using it ( I.e. Audi, BMW, Mercedes especially )

Didn't even realise we had it even though I've used HPi for years; great tool and given me some useful information today! :)

After a couple of emails back and forth I found out that this was based on a valuation provided to the customer by guess who? Yes, you're right.. Auto Trader

Car valued by them - £1180
    Cap Clean - £1600

Proof if ever it was needed!

  10. We use Lloyd Latchford through HPi which Im guessing is the same way as you?

However, in some instances where they can't offer insurance I normally point the customer in the direction of dayinsure.com, tempcover.com or similar which usually works for a few quid more.

  11. Following on from another thread where newspaper advertising has been discussed, what are everyone's thoughts on the need for a roadside pitch now?

Those of you with retail sites, do you still experience (and sell from) walk-on enquiries or are most of your enquiries internet based?

Being in the corner of a quiet off the beaten track business park I've got to admit that I've missed the usual Saturday / Sunday timewasting / window shopping types this weekend :D
