  1. Every major organisation did that. That just sat in the corner. Whereas a mobile phone goes ding dong and people will miss their dinner to just be on their phone. How do you think it works? 5 partners everyone invested an equal amount. 3 of us retired nearly 6 years ago and 2 were coming to retirement. It was either do something or sit at home listen to nagging wives. We all have dedicated roles; Stock sourcing, sales, marketing, prep, accounts/ finance etc to name a few. 10 hands always better than 2 especially when you known folks for a long time and have relied on them in difficult situations.
  2. I never said you did young sir. Bangers or buggatis - it's all about the buyer and who they are as a person. 30 years of judging people I can tell who will be a nag and who'll be respectable. Tbh if I spot a nutjob I will let one of the guys deal with them.
  3. I suppose it's the market you're in. Obviously it won't be appropriate for a boy racer in a Golf Gti or Mr M3 enthusiast. We're also looking to invest in text message system to send out something 9 to 15 months later reminding them if they're looking to upgrade their vehicle and telling them where to come. Either this or a simple leaflet / letter through the post. Again it will be selected customers. We're a team of 5 partners and most of us have grown up'ish kids who could do with some work experience...you know wash the odd car or do some IT / admin thing since they love gadgets so might as well give it a try.
  4. Hi folks, just a quick one and I know some people might be vary of it but do any of you do courtesy calls when someone has bought a vehicle from you and later in the day you call them and ask them if they had a safe journey and everything is ok? (I know it might not be appropriate for those living 2 miles away but they can wait a few days for a call) I know some of you might think that's opening yourself to telling punters or hinting at punters there was something wrong with the car. But we've been trying it for sometime now and customers are over the moon and think its beyond excellent customer service and that we're not just after their cash. In fact it has actually prompted customers to leave feedback. It has built any early rapport with the customer so they know if an issue does arise we wont piss them about either. For us its all about customer satisfaction more than anything else.
  5. It seems like you're getting into bid wars. You need to do your home work. For example £2500 value Max bid £1000 as you have plus fees plus any possible repair costs plus mot plus travel costs or delivery Now your max bid could be a little more if you can do some work yourself or maybe you know the common faults for this particular model and you know the potential final cost. There's also other things like spec / colour / fsh / keys to consider which could increase value or max bid and due to lack of these could also decrease your numbers. Like others have said this is your own game you bring as many footballers and goalposts to this match and if you get bogged down by the opposition its due to being silly.
  6. Sometimes its the other way round as well. When you go for punter A but you think punter B is better. But B turns out to be worse than A. Or vice versa. Had that myself recently
  7. No they did confirm account holders gold and above do get them free. As you said you cannot trust them. I watched my commison bid and a hall bidder started and the next bid just jumled to my commison bid even though i was told they will build up to it rather than jump to it if that makes sense? You live and learn
  8. Haha he's been offered a Ranger but he refused
  9. http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81516 Pc Angus Nairn Pc Bob Nairn
  10. The Scottish fella - Do you mean the twins. They're both bald and they are identical and both are cops? In one episode both went out together in the bad weather in a 4x4 at 3am and am sure people would have been spooked bit like the fat cop in Terminator 2 who gets cloned by T1000
  11. Are you in a rural area? Sounds like some cops which dont have real work on haha! We always shop around annually and then we know we aren't being ripped off. Just to get a price indication if that's all. It just saves time not being pulled.
  12. As far as am aware commission bids are free for gold and above accounts. BCA tried telling me commision and proxy bids both attract the online fee. I googled this and it took me to their page and gold and above have free commissions. I was on the phone and told the advisor to google it. She did and said oh we wasnt aware of it and it appears senior managment /head office updated the site and didnt tell us. I know over the last couple of years I have been charged like this. Do any of you guys know where you stood with this?
  13. He tried telling me you cannot find one for less than £3k He will take 1750 and wss offered 1000 by a dealer. The 1000 is very accurate but he gave the dealer a middle finger. XF deposit taken elsewhere. The mileage would have put a lot of folk off.
  14. Thanks guys. I will give it a miss. MOT inspections since 2012 on and off have mentioned oil leaks.
  15. We've sold a ton of them over the years. They all do. After VW Caddy, the Berlingo is 2nd place when it comes to driveability / reliability. My coppers nose says your punter has never had or driven a van before. We had another chap recently moaning the clutch is high but they all are. But some folk dont understand vans aren't cars. I would ask him for the mileage its on now and refund if it hasnt been to the moon and back. Like others have said it could be more hassle.
  16. Good evening guys, I made a brief intro in another MID topic not long ago. An ex Traffic Inspector after 30 years I retired. Me and few other bobbies set up a small pitch 5 years ago with a portacabin. I've had an enquiry from a punter with a 2004 Jaguar XJ SE 3l petrol automatic in blue with cream leathers. 175k yep with FSH its in good nick. He wants to part ex with a Jag XF. But am struggling to value his car. There's not many on Autotrooper and BCA dont show any For this coming week. How much can I realistically sell it for? And isit one of those that just sits around for donkey years or is sought after? Never really looked at one before let alone dealt. Cheers in advance
  17. Good evening all. Ex Traffic Inspector here retired after 30 years. Lovely forum here you guys have I must say. This topic on discussion is cut clear: MID. Motor Insurance Database (the clue to the answer you lot are looking for is in the name) If a vehicle is NOT on here then it is showing as NOT INSURED and you will be pulled over. You may have insurance that will cover you to drive any vehicle but coppers Dont know this. The whole issue of trade plates is grey area. For example they could move about and arent clear to read. Furthermore ANPR cameras are NOT setup to read trade plates. So if there is a roadside check point operation you WILL be pulled in. And do not listen to your brokers. There job is to make money and tell you whatever sounds easier. They wont defend you if a problem ever arises. There are a lot of what ifs: 1) anyone pulled can say they have trade insurance 2) trade plates can be stolen 3) how would you make your insurance claim if a vehicle was vandalised or stolen? Without it being added to the MID your insurer may not accept it is your car and it could be that of a mates (who had no insurance) I say this because myself and some colleagues have invested in a partnership of vehicle sales 5 years ago and when we renewed our policy at year 1 we was asked "did you not sell any cars last month?" I asked them what do they mean and they explained in the earlier months we had a lot of stock turn over and in the last month we havent added anything to the MID. They said they usually check as people buy trade insurance as its cheaper to insure their personal cars and dont trade. Hope this helps.
