  1. Sorn will still display on .giv site and display as sorn. It can take a few days for .gov to update. Number of causes for this and the most obvious is plate transfer, as mentioned. Scrapped is another possibility. You should test the vrm in other sites like these.   2. Autotrader has had the trade by the neck for years online. Bring back the old magazine days! It's fine with a handful of cars but the monthly schemes are still very expensive.   3. I'd avoid auctions too. Buy privately to start and ensure you get the logbook and they send the green slip. Buying lemons can be a part of the game, especially if you're only spending a few grand on a car. Later, low mileage and the risk generally reduces.
  4. Consumer Rights says fit for purpose. You must have the opportunity to repair the car before a refund. At least, that's the way i have always known it to be.
  5. Rarely sell a car that starts with a text. Maybe a handful of times at best.
