  1. Some friends you have... Be more selective.
  2. Yes because their algorithm "knows" that the 1994 Polo will have at least £700 worth of damage and after their £69 transaction charge the customer will go home with cool £140 in his pocket.
  3. CAP. This is what BCA use and this is where most of my stock is coming from so it makes sense to use that. This is also important when you take part exes. Retail back? Doesn't always work in your favour. CAP could be £1900, AT Retail could be £4200, you can easily pay £3000 for a part ex that you could get for £1700. Always check WBAC as well.
  4. Gotta love those Eastern European customers (I am Bulgarian by the way). They still to this day hate an auto gearbox.
  5. I stopped targeting cars a few years ago and I haven't had a problem re-stocking since. There is SO MUCH stock at the auctions compared to when I was starting up (thank you WBAC) that it's easy enough to pick up something decent as long as you don't "target" it in advance. A few years ago I sold my daily driver (2007 Merc CLK220 CDI) at exactly 250,000 miles for £3300 and I had a lot of calls for it after it sold. My next daily driver was 2011 C220 CDI and that went for £9500 with 135000 on the clock. There are buyers out there that will look beyond the mileage figure and if your price is REALLY keen even the higher milers will sell.
  6. Sorry, I know it's a big debate but to me it's any Range Rover model that actually has the words RANGE ROVER on the bonnet and this includes the SPORT
  7. No A series Land Rovers where we are. Roads are too nice and too flat :-) It's a sea of Evoques, Discos and "proper" Range Rovers
  8. There is one brand which totally dominates our local Waitrose car park (Gerrards Cross, Bucks): Land Rover
  9. We also got windscreen cover (£70 excess) when we changed from Tradewise to Arista a couple of years ago. I have claimed twice since, both times sorted very quickly without affecting our No claims.
  10. There is a place like this. It's called Autotrader. And for some cars it's turning into a race to the bottom :-) My E250 is no longer available so Grant's car is a prime contender.
  11. I'll do one (pound) better than Grant, I'll sell you the exact same model, spec, miles (117K) and year of E250 CDI for a pound less AND mine is an estate. Not advertised yet so no link.
  12. To the several garages that do our mechanical and electrical work they might well be :-)
  13. I actually found one of Jem Emirali's original posts. Here it is in full including his email if you need to get in touch: MID - The only vehicles that should be on your MID are vehicles that are taxed and your trade plates. Any vehicles in stock that are untaxed will be driven on trade plates and should not be on the MID. You are massively exposing yourself by adding them to the MID as even if the car is taken off once sold, if the purchaser does not insure the car properly and has a claim, the last known insurer may be forced to pay. Trust me when I say, you do not want a call from your broker saying your premium has gone up this year due to an accident that was nothing to do with you. Unaccompanied Demonstration - This is another area brokers seem to be getting wrong. The only way that you can let a vehicle go out on an unaccompanied test drive is if it is taxed. You cannot lend out trade plates to customers and a customer obviously cannot take an untaxed car out on the road. The majority of our dealers with unaccompanied demonstration now are main dealers with taxed demonstrators. Hopefully this help some of you out there but if you would like to discuss further, please email me on jememirali@astonscott.com
  14. My personal choice if it has to be £8K would be a 2011-12 C220 CDI Estate Auto, even with a few miles on it. It does absolutely everything I would need it to do including selling at a profit after a year's ownership.
  15. Kyle, what sort of miles do you do? If you do over 6-8K a year an LS460 will cost you a lot in petrol. If you only do 2-3K miles then get one - it's a lot of car for little money and not all your £ will be spent at the pumps.
  16. Your insurer will get the claim, not you. I've been through all these questions with my broker. Don't add was his advice. It was news to me as well at the time.
  17. NO. Even if you sell AND take your car off the MID you are still exposed as you will be the last party to carry an insured interest. Even in the past. You are free to do that but this is not best practice.
  18. Because there is no requirement for you to but if you add them and sell a car and it has an accident without having valid insurance they will check MID and go to YOUR insurer with the claim as you will be the last party to have "insured interest" in that vehicle. This advice comes directly from my broker Jem from Aston Lark and he knows his stuff.
  19. DO NOT get your cars on the MID unless they are your personal cars or taxed cars.
  20. It's easier to learn where to find the paint codes on the car and just Google them.
  21. I've sold a few MX5s over the years, each and every one went to a lady in the "way over 50" age bracket.
  22. Sold a 3 series BMW recently but the customer had some issues with it. Because I was abroad, couldn't deal with it quickly and because he was being really sensible about it all I have decided to have the BMW back and swap it for him with a Merc E Class of similar value. He paid a year's tax by card and I still haven't registered the BMW to him. I'd much rather NOT add another keeper on the record now. Is there a way for him (or me) to get the tax refund from the DVLA without him or my company becoming a new registered keeper???
  23. Autoglym at around £22 for 5 litres, lasts me a long time if applied correctly. The number of people that say "look at these new tyres"...
