  1. Im looking for some honest opinions on some of my adverts? Interested what everyone thinks of the adverts for some cars ive had in for over 60 days now. The main thing I'm concerned about is maybe the write-up, whether its too much info, or its trying to sell the car too hard and make it sound like a desperate sell.
  2. Agreed, a good valet and some better pictures will go along way. One thing to consider however is that the insignia is a common car, how is your different and why should joe public buy this particular car? e.g. spec, history, warranty, extra's etc. and more importantly why should they buy it off you?
  3. Just interested what auction houses people find to be the best, and what areas? We operate from Bristol and the main place we source from is Manheim Bristol, but be sure you wont get a decent car there for under cap clean. Can I expect any different at other manheim centre's? Or are manheim just an expensive auction?
  4. I know the Fiat 500's are god awful news from my experience! We had a Lounge spec 2012 62 plate with 20k mileage and we had to sell £500 below retail for a loss 6 months later. What colour is it? Good luck if you say red!

  6. Yeah I can imagine you got to expect a few bad ones exactly the same as if you’re there in person. This one has a buy now of £1700 and cap clean is £1800, but it’s in pretty good condition. Do you think I should be skeptical?
  7. Anyone had any experience buying from online auction houses? Our main one is Manheim, we are looking at a car 3 hours away, its passed all its silver surecheck checks and its a grade 3 but has no information so far on service history (which isn't massively important re-sale wise because we can get it serviced). I've never bought online from them. Just don't want to be stuck with a lemon, any advice?
  8. Sometimes if you're the cheapest around, you'll only attract chancers and idiots looking for a deal. They'll turn up and expect more discount and just be crap business! If we could see your adverts I imagine we might be able to tell you whats going wrong.
  9. I'd try and push for deposit refunded - prep costs (MOT expense + whatever work you did to prep the car for him). e.g. £500 deposit - £30 MOT - £100 repairs -£50 valet. Along those lines. But if he is difficult about it then just refund whole amount, not worth a bad review! However If you think you'll struggle to sell the car I'd tell the guy its not a problem i'll hold onto it until February but if its any longer you wont receive the deposit back, then just park the car on your drive or a mates drive if you don't have one.
  10. It would be a great thing if there had to be some sort of license. But I think if the DVLA/ government really wanted to crack down on rogue traders and unroadworthy cars being sold. I feel like they would sooner make it law that all cars would have to be sold with a council MOT, so it can be monitored closer, than go through the trouble of setting up a car dealer license. This would be a great thing for the consumer in all fairness, whether it would help separate the good from the bad dealers or just drag margins down for everyone i don't know.
  11. Where do the big boys, such as trade centre wales, cargiant, carbase, evans halshaw, source there cars from? I've noticed alot of these dealers will have serveral cars in stock with very similar number plates e.g. GC65 OMN & GC65 OMO as if they have been sourced from the factory but they have 20k mileage and obviously been owned. Just got me curious if anybody has any insight what these big dealers do to source there cars from?
  12. Thanks for the advice, I do absolutely see where you're coming from. I am curious to know how scalable the business can be, and exactly how well the big dealers are doing with 100+ cars in stock. Car sales definitely seems to be more profitable on a smaller scale from what I've heard but I could be wrong!
  13. Hi all, I am just looking for some insight and advice... Me and my business partner have ran our car sales company in Bristol for 18 months now. We have done very well and built our car portfolio to over 30 cars ranging from £3000-£8000, without the help of car stocking loans. However we are seriously out growing our premises, we are on a small private road and we rent spaces on another car sales pitch, so its really time consuming driving back and forth using to sites to sell cars from. We have been searching for car sales pitches in Bristol for a while now and there isn't anything around, we have even looked into outside of Bristol in areas like somerset, Gloucester, and Wiltshire but unsure on the distance. Does anyone have any experience selling cars in these area's? currently we sell 70-80% of our stock on average every month would we expect this to drop if we came away from the huge car industry in Bristol? And if anyone has any advice on finding new premises for 50 cars or have any advice on getting that amount of cars in stock for sale in unorthodox ways (e.g. having a storage yard and do by appointment only and transporting the cars in for viewings?). Or if you know of any places to let or for sale that could be suitable for us? Cheers
