So what you are saying is if you have to do the job twice then you do not pay tax on it? Just trying to get it clear so that we can all have a go.

I am still trying to get my head around an invoice that you write out that will never be paid. Can I write out a negative invoice every time I look at a dent that cannot be repaired, or a screen crack too long.

The idea was driven out of how many times I had heard "I'm just popping to the cash point to get a deposit" never to be seen again - I never knew whether they had no intention of completing or whether they walked passed the many other forecourts en route to the bank and spotted something more to their liking. At least this way, I knew whether they were serious or not because I could be the "cash point."
It also meant that I didn't have to discount so much because people are generally less conscious about the money when it is not "real"
I always charged 2.5% extra for credit cards but didn't know I was breaking the law.
Wish I had one now but trading from home doesn't make it easy - I think you can use a third party like PayPal but haven't investigated fully.
I am in my home office now and there is card machine beside me.

If you write out an invoice and it is not paid you may have to prove you did everything in your power to recover those funds. If you do not do this then VAT is payable and it will still show as income.
-
Surely if you write out an invoice then it needs paying, whoever gets that money will be taxed on it, or am I reading it all wrong.

Was it a 2 stroke, or was it blow, bang, squeeze, suck.
You have to admire halfrauds, they do seldom right, charge top money and make a profit.

Even the dent game has gone quieter this week.

"£50 for under 10 minutes of work? That's crazy!"
No Mr Customer, the £50 are for the many years of learning and practice that it takes to be able to do what I do in under 10 minutes
I am glad you appreciate the effort us guys have made to learn this trade.

A lot of my dealers are quiet, where as I have been lucky PDR work is building on the retail side as customers are getting wise too it, obviously getting a lot more per dent makes the job even nicer, tool sales for Delta products has been as normal, although oversea's enquiries have dropped off. Fleet work for screens stays as busy as usual, this often picks up over Xmas as the trucks do more miles, overall happy times. I should add that quality of life, 4 day week etc. is more important to me now than an extra few bob in the bank.

Selling well presented clean desirable stock is easy, buying it is certainly not.

I know main agents that don't clear that
I know main agents that lose that.
Turnover for vanity profit for sanity.

A 1978 308 that Chris Evans gave away on a TV show, original owner was a Mr Khashoggi, Sold it 10 years ago with 32,000 on it, that was a stupid move for sure.

There is no known case of isocyanate used in paints causing cancer! But they are the biggest cause of occupational asthma in the UK. To confuse the two may cause someone to overlook the classic early symptoms of asthma – wheezing, breathlessness and tightness of the chest. This means they don't seek medical attention and the problems at work that are leading to exposure aren't put right because they are unlikely to link their symptoms to work. See the HSE/BCF worker's leaflet "Breathing isocyanate paint mist causes asthma " and get more information on the asthma webpages.

The ione problem I had was that, somehow, it pulled some paint from the actually scratch. I ensured it was clinically many times before painting but using panel wipe too :-(
Should I have keyed the scratch also with say a fibreglass pen?
Thanks
It always did that for us when we had one, tried most things then gave it away.

I had the paint scraper 20+ years back it was a useful tool that I gave away when I stopped playing with paint. Not forgetting that when you touch up a metallic the particles all bunch up at the bottom, which shows dark from one side light to other. I hated doing the job.

Sitting down having breakfast 35 years ago with Geoff Warren and his comment stuck in my head all these years " even the liars are doing no good" I am too busy with the things I do but my car dealer customers are not it seems doing the numbers they would like to be doing.

I own a very nice independent dealer, and have traded for over 10yrs.
We do a very good job, and have excellent reviews, on Facebook, google etc.
My question is, what would be an acceptable return for someone who wanted to fund some vehicles.
I would be doing everything and paying all the bills to do with the premises, advertising etc, they would basically be sale or return, I’m talking run of the mill cars, with maybe a £20k rolling pot.
Let’s say I sold a car that made £1000 profit, how much should they get as a silent investor, not really working with me other than basic running about here and there.
Should it be a percentage of the cost price or a set amount out of the profit, what’s people’s opinions on what’s acceptable.
Thanks in advance.
Never confuse profit with margin, would be my advice.

Not hanging onto many of the cars I sold in the seventies and eighties, they would have made a nice pension pot.

I think Liverpool or Leeds are the closest I have customer's, both too far away. If I come up with anything better I will let you know.

The only timed appointment I can give is the first one of the day, I blame the dealers, they call and tell you they have one panel with a dent in, get there and another 5 cas have appeared looking like train wrecks. Because of that anything after first call is sometime that day, I always return calls and never let people down.
