  1. Yes, they are. We're summed that up in a post that explains how dealers and garages can stay open - and reassure customers they can still keep coming in. Please feel free to share this story far and wide, the further we get the message out the better.

If we've missed any questions in the FAQ, let me know and I'll get them added and answered.

  2. You may have seen my earlier posts, but I've been working on this round up of what suppliers are doing to help dealers out now.

Cuts to invoices, bills and free offers all included.

If you know of any others that we are missing that would be good to share with other dealers please let me know. Sharing information during this time is key.

  3. All

I am sorry I have been quiet. I've been in hospital this week - severe tonsillitis, complicated with Covid-19 fears. Been a rough week, but I'm out and back in front of my computer and very conscious the industry needs our help.

    Can't not work any longer...

The Car Dealer team and I are now working on an all new website to be rolled out this weekend to help with advice, the latest news and everything we can do to share positive stories and ideas to help your business in these tough times.

We can see from our traffic that many of you are desperate for information.

We are in a unique position where my team can help get you answers to the many questions I know you probably have.

If you are worried about something, need answers on anything in these difficult times, contact me - I'm on here and will be monitoring this. Email or direct message me with anything.

If we can get answers for you we will - if it helps you, it will probably help other dealers.

We want to tell your positive stories too so if you want to talk to us and tell people how you're making things work in this difficult time, get in touch.

My team and I will do all we can to get you answers, share help and advice and together we can work to get through this tough time for every one of us.

I'm acutely ware that many of you will be working at home, or isolated, and this is a community for you - share your experiences, talk to us.

You can also find me on Twitter - @CarDealerEd

or find me on Instagram - @baizeceo

Let me know what we can do to help - I'll do all we can to share the right information.

    Stay healthy,

    James

  4. Dear forum members

There are too many incidents in here lately of nasty behaviour, bullying or bad language where it really isn't necessary.

This forum is designed for professionals of the motor trade and if you can't behave like one then admins will remove you.

If you are concerned about a post, a person's behaviour or suspect someone as a spammer, report them using the tools in this forum. The Car Dealer Magazine team - including myself - regularly monitor this forum and won't accept it.

I've been forced to remove a member today and will remove others who break the rules. And so too will the other admins.

Be nice to each other - there's enough hate in the world and we really don't need it on here.

    Think twice before posting.

    Much love

    James

Entry to the forum was easy for me it’s the magazine I’m having issues with, I signed up 6 months ago and have only had one copy no matter how many times I email or message :huh:

@MarkTVS, this is worrying - please call me at the office on 023 92522434 or email me james@blackballmedia.co.uk and I'll get this sorted today

  6. CDX is less than a week away now - and I'm hoping many of you here will be coming.

Farnborough International is THE place for the automotive retail trade to be on June 12, and although all the VIP tickets have been snapped up, the good news is you can still register for free tickets.

Here's the top 10 reasons to be at CDX:

1 – The best day you will spend out of your business this year
CDX is for the industry, delivered by the industry. We know that it’s a challenging time for many car dealers – that’s why we’ve designed CDX to help you improve your business to meet these challenges and outperform the competition.

With best-practice seminars, practical demonstrations and straight-talking advice, a day at CDX will help you return to your business with new ideas, new motivation and refreshed to deliver.

2 – Dealership of the Future, in association with GardX
The industry is changing faster than ever. What will the next generation of physical car dealer outlets look like and how do you need to plan in the long term?

With the consumer journey and buying process changing faster than ever, new to CDX will be the Dealership of the Future. You’ll be able to get hands-on with some of the latest technology, such as 360-degree imagery, full e-commerce, self-service aftersales and cutting-edge showroom display systems.

3 – Exclusive White Papers from industry-leading businesses
This year, each of our four headline partners – Barclays, CarGurus, CitNOW and Cox Automotive – will be sharing research and industry insight exclusively at CDX. Not only this, but they will also be on stage to discuss their findings and answer questions. This insight is designed to help you and your business grow and increase profits.

    4 – Free-to-attend best-practice workshops delivered by industry experts
This year, CDX will deliver 13 workshops. Covering everything from digital marketing and e-commerce to improving your stock turn and increasing your bottom line, these sessions will deliver expert advice that you can implement in your business straight away. Social media giant Facebook will also be joining us to talk about the art of the deal through social media.

5 – The Live Stage, in association with CarGurus
Each year, the Car Dealer Live Stage features some of the biggest names in the industry, sharing their thoughts and opinions on what’s happening in the UK motor industry and what the future holds. At a critical time for the UK automotive industry, these sessions with some of the UK’s top dealer and manufacturer bosses are not to be missed.

6 – Advice from the experts
Whatever current challenges your business is up against, CDX is the best place to meet the experts all in one room. With specialists in all areas of running a dealership of any size, CDX is your chance to get their advice for your business face to face.

7 – Dealers’ Den, in association with Cox Automotive
This year we are launching the CDX Dealers’ Den. Hosted on the Live Stage, this session will see a group of innovative young companies pitching their product or service to our expert panel and the audience. Our dealers will decide which product deserves to be supported in the coming 12 months of Car Dealer Magazine. Come and see what next-gen products you are likely to be using in the next couple of years.

8 – Networking and Business Hub, in association with CitNOW
CDX isn’t just a fantastic place to meet experts and suppliers and get help and advice for your business, it’s also the best place to network with your industry peers. CDX gives you the chance to meet fellow dealers from across the country, share experiences, talk best practice and build future relationships.

Bought and read this tonight. Brilliant read and extremely informative guideline that give a great insight into what to expect as a newbie.

With regards to self provided warranties, is there a lawgistics style document as to what I would and wouldn't be obliged to offer the customer.

I'm only trading from home atm, only just starting out and afraid customers wouldn't take me as a credible/responsible dealer without some legal document to outline what sort of warranties they will be provided with.

Really glad you enjoyed it! Great to have feedback.

I would suggest contacting Lawgistics directly about the above.

  8. Morning all

You may have noticed in Car Dealer Magazine over the last year we have been running a feature called 'So You Wanna Be A Car Dealer'. We've now collated all the features into one digital magazine designed for those new to the trade.

It has hints and tips from the professionals and everything a new dealer needs to know to get started.

This idea came as a direct result of this forum - a place where many new dealers arrive when looking for advice. Those new members often post questions in this forum - well, now there's a place they can get everything they need to know.

The digital edition called How To Be A Car Dealer is available to be read on all platforms - desktop, mobile or iPad - and costs £9.99.

    You can find it here:

    https://issuu.com/blackballmedia/docs/htbacd_multipage

I hope it proves of use to those of you looking to start out in the trade. And if it doesn't contain the answers you need, I'm sure those tricky questions can be answered by our experienced members in our forum.

    Enjoy!
