    Well guys,

It started off good. The sun was shining and the car was looking well. I was waiting for a pre booked appointment to turn up and buyer had been on to me a couple if times leading up to today so I knew he was keen.

Then he arrived...with his friend. Who knew cars.

Said friend barely said hello before pouncing (literally) on the car to point out cosmetic defects. He was extremely enthusiastic, like he wanted to put my buyer off. He pointed out everything...

After nearly an hour of us talking and several discussions about how the car wasn't a dose as was been implied, I suggested a test drive. And myself and the buyer enjoyed 15 mins showing just how good the car actually is.

On our return I left them for a bit and 15 mins later I went out to see if we could put the deal together. And we did, one that both sides seem happy with.

We had almost shaken hands on it when (you know what's coming now don't you), the friend suggested maybe be best to look at other cars before deciding and that he couldn't live with himself if he watched his buyer friend complete the deal and the car turn out to be a lemon.

    2 hours and no deal.

Why? All he could fault was some minor cosmetics, mechanically (and overall the car is sound) and I struck a deal that allowed some of the issues to be rectified to his satisfaction...even though I know they will never be touched.

I appreciate bringing a friend who can check things out mechanically, but the buyer has eyes and anything that would actually upset him he would have pointed out himself without the need for an expert.

I'm annoyed and left wondering other than telling them maybe the car wasn't the one for him, how else do we deal with these people who end up costing us a deal as they put doubt in the buyers mind and let's face it, they know and trust these people more than us.

    Discuss...swearing welcome.

    Cheers.

Nothing surprises me with these parasites, better off not selling them and politely telling them if they are unsure THEN WALK AWAY U MUG !!

Are you selling them slightly rough?

I remember them 3-4 years old with 30-40k miles and the bonnets peppered with chips.

Must have been tue angle of the bonnet or the quality of the paint.

    2nd hand car mate lmao

We only do AT (works so bloody well)

and eBay (it's cheap but the less said the better)

Happy to pay what AT charge because it sells cars. Might lose eBay if it has a price increase this year.

Ebay works well for us for lumpy stuff and performance and would struggle without.

We have a strict policy of not accepting them with no exceptions. Not because of fees but due to section 75. When I checked last months statement I find that my salesman has managed to take 7 deposits on a credit card and 6 on a debit. Not Happy!!

Bet you don't sack him !

Seen a few escapades at some of the auctions, remember at Royston road, a little guy called Jacky slashed someone’s face over £20 he was due. Also at Smag Aberdeen a guy got his face slashed on both sides, there was blood all over the place.

    Yes I know Jackie

Yes, but we haven’t seen the state of it. Every week in this game you see “cheap” cars, unfortunately usually for a reason.

Very clean and original all motorway mileage and lovely condition paint with no poor previous

    Hi EK

No ,in the days I went ,all the entries were sold where they stood and were never started up until you paid for them! All the auctioneers would walk around with clip boards and stand by the car being sold.Would Bert be their in 1980.

    Late 80s

I recall Central when it was in the meat market in Glasgow,5 different sales going on at once, all the entries were sold where they stood and weren’t started up,you had to rely on the description.None of the proper guys bought from Central in those days, most of the stuff was clocked or misdescribed and Central were not the worst. We used to buy from Beiths and Mr Beith the auctioneer was a propper, propper gent,I don’t think he accepted bids from ‘the dodgys ‘.

Do u remember Bert Logan?? Give it a rev driver ?  Oh she sounds a good one ladies and gents.

  13. Central car auctions Glasgow full of wannabe car dealer tax dodging shady  people who you would be mad to buy a car off.  A lot of legit dealers and fair people there aswell but majority would cut ur throat for a coupe of hundred quid profit.

  14. We buy a lot of stuff with v5 to apply and sell without and take customer to our local post office at point of sale and complete v62 with their details and the nice lassie even tax's car without v5 and sends completed v62 form away after £25 payment for replacement logbook sometimes she cannot tax without v5 depending on her computer whether it lets her or not and sometimes requires postcode of previous registered owner but not very often.

A fortnight ago I sold a £2000 car & allowed the old boy £600 for his p/x (which he wasn’t expecting me to take, it was only when I asked that he offered it to me).

Anyway he passed his money at me, all £2000 of it. I had to explain twice why I was giving him £600 back & he still looked puzzled (I’m not sure he was the sharpest tool in the box). It may of dawned on him later but plenty of shysters would of had him for his £600. I bet if he was dealing with one of Scumtree’s finest he’d of been done, who says all of us car traders are c**ts?

    Very honest of you +1
