I'm now based in Petworth so not too far from you, I've got a guy who buys all my tat. Not my favourite person, but I can understand him when he talks, he pays me a fair price and I've never had any ballache with him in the few years I've dealt with him. By tat I mean the shite I don't want to retail myself, he's not a scrap dealer or breaker so doesn't buy crap to bin.

Drop me a PM if you're still looking and I'll dig out his number when I'm at work tomorrow.

    Thanks, pm sent

  2. I’ve walked away every time i’ve seen a car like it. Was told recently if you check dipstick and its just oily then head gasket is fine but if dipstick has mayo gunk then its bad news.

Shame as i walked away from a nice mini cooper clubman last month as it had this eggy filler cap and i dont want the hassle of risking anything!!

We're always looking for older Japanese, and even the odd Ford and Vauxhall Jimbo, we're in East Sussex, we prefer lower mileage, with history, not too many owners etc, but are happy to consider outside of those parameters, to be fair I quite enjoy pulling the older cars together and still get satisfaction out of it!!

Thanks mate may well send you a pm if anything comes in.

I think ideally im looking for someone to trade cars to that will pretty much take anything sub £1,000-£1,250. Even if they are old or tatty etc with no s/history and high mileage just so i dont need to worry about how to retail them out again.

Jimbo - I know it's not something one should advertise but I specialise in that "junky" stuff and it does really well.

I buy a lot of our stock from other traders like yourself who either aren't interested due to the small margins / potential problems or it would look completely out of place on their pitch.

We're based in St Helens.. so if you're somewhat close by drop me a message with what you have at the moment.

Exactly the kind of trader i could do with mate. But unfortunately we’re down south gatwick/brighton area im afraid.

  5. Whats the best practice?

when you buy from dealerships you usually have to take some “less desirable” cars along with the gems. The cars you really dont want but have to keep good relations.

What do you do with these? A full frank ebay ad works sometimes but just opens you up to arseholes expecting the world and generally just wasting your time for a car you’re barely breaking even on.

I guess its good to find local traders that you can just flip them on to but again most traders dont want to take the junky stuff.

  6. Wondered how you guys doing Pdi checks on cars manage it if not a mechanic/good around an engine and also dont have a garage on site?

    home traders and small setups?

do you just do a new mot and have that as your peace of mind? The pdi forms from lawgistics look great but obviously have some detailed sections of it that you probably cant sign off without some basic mechanic knowledge

do you just take to your local mechanic to check it all off?

Distance selling a car for £250 profit...no offence Jimbo but that sounds mental. Good luck but i'd be thinking about more than just this deal if you're sticking a couple of hundred in each unit and still having to sell to people miles away.

    No offence taken mate.

Although i didnt say my business model is to make £250 per car :)

this just so happens to be a car ive had a few weeks and would rather get some cash back on it during such a crap quiet month

  8. What are your views?

Client called and lives around 160 miles from us. Said they really like the car and full and frank description for their wife but may not be able to come down to buy it.

Asked if we would be happy for them to send a recovery truck or transporter to collet for them if we can agree a price.

They’d pay by bank transfer in advance.

I said id much prefer they viewing and drove the car first but appreciate thats not always possible.

What are your views? What would you do?
