    she will not win

she is being wholly and totally unreasonable.

you DO NOT have to give her your pdi, i have successfully proven this in court, the claimant said they had no sight of any pdi, other than the one i produced in evidence, inferring that one didnt exsist ! in court the claimant and the judge were reminded that the pdi is for MY satisfaction that the vehicle is correctly examined and fit for sale, and correctly kept for any future reference, the customer has no need to see sight of this document, they were plainly told at time of sale "a full pdi has been carried out " .

being unreasonable and uncooperative is the first thing to put in your defence, and ask for any claim to be struck out not only this but that a clutch is a wear and tear item, especially after so long as its obvious shes still using the car and its not stopped her from using it at all.

Good point. I also wonder how many miles theyve covered in this car since you sold to them...

  2. In most cases if faced with repeated client moans i would probably just unwind the whole sale, refund in full and re-sell the car after having it checked over again

dealing in small claim courts and solicitors is not something i have any desire to encounter so would always try and do the above asap and move on with a quiet life as possible!!

  3. We had a client in last year about coolant leaking and having to top up, and they were going to get it looked at as also had to top up oil once

Thankfully it was something minor and we heard no more from them except to thank us for answering their questions so quickly and being on-hand to speak to.

But it got me thinking what kind of bad things it could have been .... worse case im imaging is head gasket on way out?

and then i thought what on earth we’d do if it was something major - especially in a car with sub £500 profit !!

we take great care with the cars and prepare them well so its always horrible to ever hear any negative reports and just always want to deal with them quickly and efficently

Do you have a case in mind Jimbo or just gathering info, a lot of what your asking should be covered in your t&c's

Just info for now as touch wood only ever had 1 car back that was a dirt cheap part ex. Never again

i just want to know what legally we need to do when these things arise. We want to do things right and not have the piss taken by either side.

Some clients u can tell will be calling about every little thing.

I just wondered if you should sometimes just offer part payment to fix problems or just say bring car back and refund amount and find a better buyer!!

  5. Also what would you do if a repair bill/quote comes in that you think is just too high? Or a repair you’re not sure is quite as large as has been made out?

if you’re too far away to have your own mechanic look at it but werent happy with your customers mechanic quote for proposed work what would you do?

these are fairly common issues we hear about in the trade and its good to know where you stand. Customer service is v important to us

mechanic costs ? no, there responsibility is to return the car to you for inspection, why would you pay for example a company that offers a "free safety check" for your customer to be then faced with a bill for some fitter on a bonus scheme ?

mileage, if they're taking the piss, and you genuinely believe your being had, then YES. otherwise no, refund, move on.

Cool thanks. So if a repair is either not possible as theyre too far away and you dont want to pay a ridiculous price from their local garage you’re within your rights to refuse their bill and just offer a refund and close the issue off? You cant be forced to pay a bill from their garage as you always have a fall back of offering a full refund

  7. Thanks again much appreciated.

So the absolute most you can do is offer them to return for a full refund?

would you cover mechanic costs they have incurred too? What about charging for mileage theyve put on the car?

With some buyers it seems best to unwind the deal and find a more suitable new owner!!!

  8. Also, if you guys do offer a refund in those 30 days or even in the first 6 months, do you take any money off for mileage and wear and tear? Charging 40p per mile etc?

and if the new owner has been to a garage to have inspections etc do you also cover those costs or are you only having to offer a full refund of the initial purchase price and take the car back?

  9. What do you guys do with complaints?

if the car is within the first 30 days and you get moans about any kind of issues - oil leaks, drop links, misfires, coolant leaks, etc etc

do you usually pass over to the warranty company and ask them to step in or try and sort repairs yourself?

i know the first 30 days are the main part and then 1 month to 6 months also.

Just wondered how the majority deal with issues as/when they arise?

  10. Hi thanks, yes indeed its not really a hard sell :-)

i will be honest most of the stock is £10k plus as its all fairly new (0-5 years) and usually low mileage stock that would be ideal for large independents that stock prestige cars and main dealers. (Will update first post accordingly)

But will of course let you know should anything come in within your range.

  11. I hope this post is ok to put in here?

I have access to a wealth of very nice cars via a car brokerage company that i’m involved with.

Please get in touch here or pm if you are looking for a good supply of particular stock.

Cars range from standard cars, Golfs, Audis etc to Bentleys, porsche, range rovers and everything in between.

I have a list of dealers who buy from us and if anyone else needs stock please get in touch.

Can provide a quick snapshot of the cars available and then forward full sales particulars including spec, description, any damage, service records and a guide price the client would like.

Some people just say “let me know about every Bentley you get” or “i just want s-line audi range” etc

Most of the stock is £10k-£100k as its all fairly new (0-5 years) and usually low mileage stock that would be ideal for large independents that stock prestige/premium cars and main dealers

    Cheers.

We're about 15 - 20 cars short now so it's panic stations but we simply refuse to pay silly money for junk.

    Tonight was the perfect example.

Nice 2010 1 series in white 60k, just our kind of low end flash mobile for the middle class driveways locally.

Cap clean £4600 needed a bit of paint but i'd pay top book still

All good until we see the vehicle description states " NO BRAKES "

New one on me...now we're not talking needing some pads or a warped disc. We're talking NO BRAKES.

Rolls into the hall, pushed to a stop and proceeds to make £4850.

If it wasn't so funny i'd be angry at a wasted evening

    Absolutely bloody ridiculous

  13. If i have a car for £3,500 and advertise on ebay at £3,500 i get little to no bites.

If i list it at £1,000 with a £3,500 reserve it usually generates lots of interest, viewings, offerd and ultimately hits the reserve about 40% of the time which i find decent

  14. Just looked up this deal

the cheapest you can now get motors pro is £298 a month. This includes the gumtree deal.

Thats for only 10 cars a month. Seems hideously expensive when you can list 1 car for a 28 day classfied ad @ £14.99. That means you can place 16 x classified ads for the same price theyre charging per month for 10 listings unless im missing something

I’ve just looked through all of my recent eBay message inbox. Dozens of enquiries, all mostly polite, sensible and pretty legible, asking sensible questions. There are a couple of ‘What’s your best price’.

Some asking about detailed service history etc. Others asking about finance options, delivery and mostly ‘is this car still available?’  From there they have all been replied to and we have received follow up emails, calls and sales.

No abuse- apart from a mildly sarcastic/amusing and quite right to be honest, line of ‘Why is this Puma SO expensive?’

A couple of Best Offers about a grand off the asking price on cars at 4K up.  Politely declined obviously, but you do often then get further correspondence and you can deal sometimes

ebaymotors pro is a great platform, honest

eBay auction is a different story.

I still use ebay auctions and dont really enjoy it. Whats the deal with ebaypro?

Is it a set fee for a certain amout of cars?

Is it like a classified ad or bidding?

i spend £18 to list a car on auction for 10 days with a reserve. It attracts a lot of idiots but also sales so would be interested to know how pro works differently

You have to understand that it is difficult to sell cars privately.Sellers get fed up quite easily.I would just tell them who you are and compliment them on their car and explain you cannot pay them the asking price.Tell them to call you back if they don’t have any luck and if they agree to a price, you will pay them quickly and they will never see you again.....Don’t low ball them from the outset, that is a bad move....It worked for me,but I have to admit,it was some time ago.

Good advice. I have been saying who we are and the hassle free and quick part. But also throwing some low ball offers so as not to waste anyones time. I do leave my details with them as a backup tho just incase they have enough of the private stuff

From what you say, there is no need for you to buy from auctions. If you are only buying one or two per week,if you put the effort in you can pick them up  from private sellers.Ebay,Gumtree,AT or local newspapers, just speak to the sellers and you will be able to establish who are genuine, you should be able to buy 10% of the cars you go to look at.

Very true and i do a bit of this. But essentially you have to be honest and just low ball someone around a cap ave price and not everyone wants that!! Numbers game though

What price range are you in,have you got a pitch or premises, sounds like you only need 3 or 4 each week. What area are you in.

Hi mate prob up to £4k-£5k max for now. Yes anything between 1-3 a week will do us as we have a small pitch based in the south east near Gatwick/Brighton.

I do like being able to drive the cars, get a feel for the clutch and engine etc but i guess as long as description is good there shouldnt be any need to worry!

    Hi Jimbo

I think for the guys to respond, you need to provide more info. How many do you need to buy per week, what do you sell,do you just buy on price etc.You need to learn how to bid first, because there are some good auctioneers out there . There is so much you need to know, the things that go on.For example when I am bidding against an amateur ( which could be you )and I know the auctioneer is going to help them along.I have sometimes just gone and stood next to them, bid quickly and told them to hurry up and bid which confuses them and you get a quicker knockdown.I could go on and on.

    Good to know mate

i only need approx 10 cars in stock for now so can be abit picky and certainly wont be bullied into paying over the odds. Prefer to stock the smaller hatches and MVP’s but happily look at most things that have a profit in them!

Is dealer auction purely web based bidding? Im not sure i like the idea of buying without trying as i spend a lot of time appraising a car and the road test is always key
