The last 5 or 6 auctions I've attended I have bought nothing. I CAN buy crap just to fill spaces but the level of crap that's getting traded-in is too bad even for me.
And on a rare trip to Leeds I found they now don't let you have the keys, , you can't get in them, you can't open bonnets & the driver's won't even allow you to try the electric windows.
How the hell, in 2017, has the treatment of customers REDUCED to this level when in any other industry service levels have increased & they've embraced "openness"?

Are you serious? You actually point a phone (or whatever) & record them!?!!! I can't believe it.

I thought he was serenading us with song. He's probably had a few private messages asking if he's "free tonight for a drink and possibly more".
-
You'll get your money out of them plus a drink. I hope you don't mind dealing with greedy Asians as they'll be all over that Passat like a rat up a drainpipe.
-
That's why I hate small cars & try to avoid them.

Stephen, they'll love them in the collieries & failing that a greedy monkey hanger will soon take them off your hands.

Trust me here, too much choice and there head spins and they walk !
+1 Absolutely.
tbh when they say on the phone "I want to see a few of your cars" that usually means their head is already full of cars & they don't have a clue what they want.

Yep - string him out with letters but don't be too quick to answer - play him at his own game.
Although he has been to Honda, as usual he's over egging it so you'll trip him up.
I'm not sure why many on here are so keen to refund a chancer, or perhaps in this case someone who has a minor fault and panicked.

Most importantly cloudy days for photos would be my only tip...bright sunshine kills a photo IMO

You don't say!!!
I'd be more surprised if he WASN'T trying it on.
Also if they do have a minor grievance they normally over-egg the story (the Honda dealership visit on a £895er smells fishy to me) & once you've caught them out they disappear.

Well, don't be tempted to buy one unless you like ornaments.

iPhone good enough for me. It's more about getting the background & lighting correct.
Personally I don't like walkarounds, I think they look poncie & aren't required by 99.999% of buyers but I'm sure we'll all be doing them in 5 years.
-
Are you sure he's been to Honda?
Also, don't do business by text!!! It the preferred communication method of arseholes - I'd ignore his texts until he phones (which 99% don't).

Ah but!! Is your folks' carpet rammed full of pop, crisps, toffees, sticky sweets and semen like the seats of the average scruffy 12yr old Peugeot?

The easiest is to scrap them but you'll get a few more quid on eBay HOWEVER you MUST write a brutal advert & clearly tell them on the advert AND face to face that it's a one way deal, sold as seen with a lamppost warranty.
I know the bullshit legality of this but it works on pure shitters - if you have a problem with dealing at the bottom level then scrap them.

Yes the gearboxes sell very well
-
I don't touch them. There's no money in them either unless they're yellow or red and even then need to be behind book.
-
Sounds like bollocks to me.
-
Or PAS problems.
They were pisspoor years ago & the passing of time hasn't helped them.

They'll be removable, it'll just be the seller's a lazy bastard.
I thought my prep levels are shite but that's a disgrace - and he's not shy with his pricing either!

LET ME ADD MY TWO PENNETH WORTH (IN CAPITALS IF YOU HADN'T ALREADY GUESSED).
Suppose you specialised in diesels - recently you're screwed. + A FORECOURT FULL OF CARS WITH DPF/TURBO/INJECTOR PROBLEMS. URGHHH!!!
Estates specialist - SUV's have killed that market for me. PARTIALLY AGREE, THERE AREN'T ENOUGH TIDY ESTATES AT SENSIBLE MONEY.
Prestige - Takes a certain person....I can't handle the big ego but instant HP decline brigade. TO F***ING TRUE!! PENNILESS BIG-TALKING BASTARDS. BTW, THE VW CROWD CAN ALSO BE ADDED INTO THIS "CHAMPAGNE TASTE, LEMONADE MONEY" BRACKET.
We thought about autos because there's a huge demand locally but try buying one without a knackered box in the block. NOT ENOUGH GOOD ONES . YOU CAN'T TRUST THESE SHITTY AUTOMATED CLUTCH JOBIES, CVTS ARE HORRID, DSGS SEEM TO BE A LOTTERY AND ANYTHING BIG & 'PRESTIGE' SEEMS TO NEED A NEW 'BOX EVERY 100K MILES.
Bog standard risk spreading is best for me...at least that way I have one of every un-sellable motor rather than a forecourt full of the same unsellable ones. SNAP.

GROAN

Yep, gross.
And when you buy a shitter, spend more money putting it right than it's worth, sell it at a loss & the VAT man still wants his pound of flesh.

I do very few favours for people now and don't trust any customers... everytime I do I get burnt.
Unfortunately that's the car game & it's seen as perfectly acceptable to blatantly lie. Very sad but I trust no one nowadays.
As for "customers" & "cheap stock", one man's cheap stock might be another man's top of the range so what price range are we taking when we refer to cheap cars/difficult customers?
I really dont understand who buy from auctions and why?
