I doubt that the Police even record cat thefts as it is an insurance claim.A few years ago our transport company had cats costing £1800 each stolen from 80 new Merc Sprinters which were stored in their yard. It didn’t make the local news

That would of hurt and worrying as they may come back again once replaced.

Its anything with a cat (first cat, second cat) accessible from under the car.  If its a car with a single 'manicat' then its safe. They prefer hybrids because of the higher precious metal content.

A major reason for these thefts is that the 2013 Srap Metals Act is not being enforced.  Dealers are buying these cats for cash with no ID checks.  I was reading that in Germany the thefts have been large stamped out because the police went hard after the buyers and jailed a few.

For your particular model/year of BMW even the type approved aftermarket cats are quite pricey, but still a third of BMW price.

But aftermarket cats don't work on some cars as they flag up an eml.

  2. Another car we won't be buying again, BMW petrol, the thieving b******ds have stolen the  catalytic converter off a BMW 1 Series off our forecourt, didn't know these were so dear. A pain in the @ss, especially after we have just done the timing chain. Anyone point us in the right direction to get a replacement, aftermarket ones flag up eml, genuine new are about £1600 = vat.

Are the later BMW petrol cats in demand aswell?

  3. Customers/Consumers whatever you like to call them can do chargebacks on visa debit aswell as credit cards. Only reason why I've kept the card machine is just in case I'm out and our staff can take payment and not worry about calling me to ask if the money has come in.

Caddys are the latest street cred thing to have though , so that doesn't help them , Know a guy who will pay eye shattering money for any caddy going , Then pays £1,000 to have it wrapped in violent colours :o, lowering kit on to slam it to the ground and adds 2k on top , takes him less than two days to sell them , 80/90/120 k motors he cant buy em fast enough .

I make 1.5k to 2k on a caddy without doing all that. :-)

  6. Bought a Transit Custom 17 reg with 64k in excellent condition for £8500 including fees (plus vat) back in May 2020, I have not been able to find one that low priced with a similar story. Bought a few customs since then. I bought one mid January 2021, 65 reg with 45k grade 3 with little body damage for 10500 plus vat delivered to the door. That's 2k above the 17 plate a year on. Bought another custom on Wednesday 15 plate with 49k for 8600 plus vat which was a little more sensible Autotrader reccomend £11994 retail plus vat. Only thing is I've risked it and bought a grade 4, on photos only one bit of body pointed out that requires paint osf wing. Fingers crossed the rest of it will be ok.

Also been buying Caddys they are about 1k to 1.5k from about 10 months ago.

  7. A 10k fine for them is nothing they would of made 10s and 10s of10ks by the time they get caught and fined, I believe its a warning first then if you carry on they fine .

  8. Had a lady call today wanting to view a vw golf, told her its click and collect only, no viewings, no visits to the site,  no test drives. She says she was at a main dealer yesteeday, they opened the car for us and started it so we could hear the engine running. I told her we can't let her come down and do that, its click and collect or nothing. Pushing so much to come down. She says I'm going to come down as I go for my daily exercise, would you believe she turned tried to get my attention, just ignored/blanked her. Oh her daily exercise was travelling 6 miles in her car.

I mean how do you tell me people politely.

  9. Yes, you are not allowed. Done a few handovers from a boot of a car using the parcel shelf as a desk and some from the valeting bay / workshop.  When I spoke to LawData you are not allowed to have customers in your showroom, office or on your forecourt. We have a private road at our entrance, we hand the cars and vans from there.

Are you saying that even if you sell a 'click and collect car' you don't allow the punters inside to do the paperwork?

    Yes.

  10. We had a customer yesterday bought a van from us on click and collect, wanted to px couldn't describe properly and no detailed photos sent of his px so we offered him low without looking at it. He went to wbac who gave him more than we offered so he sold his px to them. He said they let him in the office to do paperwork etc. I mean surely he should not of been invited in the office, there business is no different to car sales. The big boys a breaking the law and getting away with it. Makes my p!ss boil.

Naming no names but there’s a few dealers around me that have ignored the rules from day one and haven’t stopped trading as usual.

We've got some like that round here.

It’s definitely allowed in Tier 4. It could just be that they have not updated their adverts/website.

Thought tier 4 is click and collect/deliver only.

  12. Hi guys, what are you guys doing for car/van sales? I mean we are working on click and collect/deliver basis only, no viewings or test drives prior to handover. 14 day money back rule.
Reason why I am asking is because there are garages advertising viewings and test drives, is that allowed? If so how?
