Ok, so I'm thinking this: 1. A private members areas for Advanced Members 2. Those being members who have participated in the forum for a period of time with a minimum of 25 posts 3. Before members are allowed to join a background check will be carried out to see if they are genuine traders 4. For new dealers or home traders the bare minimum will be a copy of their trade insurance shared with Car Dealer Magazine, as per the Buy & Sell membership. 5. Forum will be locked so anyone who hasn't got membership privileges cannot access it. It will not show up on Google. How does that sound?

Today we have launched a new area of the Car Dealer Forum. The Private Members Lounge is for advanced members to openly discuss topics. It is for dealers only and will not be searchable by Google - an area where you can speak openly. http://cardealermagazine.co.uk/forum/forum/10-private-advanced-members-lounge/ I don't want it to take over completely from this main forum - as I wanted to create a forum that was open for everyone, however I realise that some members require the space to chat freely, an area where customers won't find them, and this area will be it. To gain access you must: 1. Have posted more than 25 posts in the open forums 2. Be a genuine dealer. We will background check all applicants and at a bare minimum a copy of your trade insurance must be supplied to forumteam@blackballmedia.co.uk 3. Once approved we will give you access to the Private Members Lounge This will be carefully monitored and members will be removed for breaking the privacy of this forum. As usual no blatant advertising will be allowed, and also you need to play nicely in there - no bullying! If you were already a member of our Buy & Sell Trade Cars section you will have automatically been upgraded. We hope you find this new area useful and we look forward to seeing you in there.

I used to buy a fair bit of DA but now only buy from a very very select dealers I've already dealt with. It just seems main dealers are happy to screw over the independents and I just got tired of having my time and money wasted going to collect cars that when you turn up have obvious issues or dmamage that was unreported, DA don't want to know about any issues are are very unwilling to help. My worse experience came from the Vauxhall dealer in hartlepool who advertised a Alfa 159 as all good which struggled to start, leaked oil, had 2 tyres down to cords, paint spilt on the rear leather seats (obviously I left the car with them) and I only got to see the car after hanging around in the showroom for 40 minutes, there was only a service customer and myself in the place. All sales staff were hidden in the managers office and in the end I just walk up and knocked on the door which I was told was rude!!! Oh and searching DA on the way home the Alfa was relisted with the exact same advert hours later adapted DA assured me they would be investigating. DA just said some dealers are better that others but there's little they could do.

Did your mechanic "square it up" with you before he started playing for the other team? If he's on your payroll then its not really ok. Has your mechanic got plans to set up on his own in the future and as such building his 'book' while you pay?

Might I be the first to welcome you to the forum. Good luck, newbies tend to be viewed with suspicion until they've passed the test. "The twelve labours of Hercules" springs to mind

Twice I've given Motors a fair crack over the last few years, and twice I've ended up pulling the the plug and I know a few more who have done the same. It's cheap and it provides a ROI but that's about it. Facebook provides a far better ROI for me than Motors and I've also signed up with Motonovo for their new platform. My ebay contract expires at the end of the month and I'm in two minds whether to renew it and although I don't want to, I might give cargurus a crack instead. Folk seem to be doing ok with it and clearly they have given AT food for thought. It goes against what I believe in but when in Rome.....
