So British Car Auctions bought We Buy Any Cars, good source of cheap vehicles for their Auctions Auction Day at BCA you cant swing your Glasses Guide round with out hitting 10 Shell Suit Wearing Private Buyers pushing a pram round A garage cant sell a car to a private without giving a Warranty, but Private Buyers can stand next to a Trader at an Auction and drive the prices up So my question is, if a Private can buy a car at an Auction without a warranty, why cant the trade sell cars without a Warranty? At least at a garage they can have a test drive and examine the car properly, they cant do that at Auction As it would seem the Auctions are encouraging private buyers to attend their sales, i suggest they should be made to give warranties too This is a guess at best, but I am sure that BCA/Webuyanycar will now be one of the largest retailers of used cars in the UK ( allegedly ) If the car is bought by webuyanycar BCA is the buyer and the retailer, if a private buys a car then surely he should be given a warranty? I know one thing for certain, if Auctions had to give a Warranty on the cars they sell to Joe Public, there would be barbed wire and a moat round them to keep the privates out The subject is open for discussion Does anyone agree, or disagree ?

In my time here at Lawgistics Ltd it has become evident to me that, in the vast majority of cases, consumers expect cars that are many years old, having done many, many thousands of miles and for which they paid very little for, to drive as it was still hot off the manufacturers’ production line. The buyer has a gross over-expectation of their purchase. However, If I had bought a washing machine for £20 that was 12 years old from a family with 6 children would I expect it to last in the same way as if was £300, new and from a High Street retailer? No. Would I think that if that £20 washing machine needed a part replaced 5 months later that I had been sold a “dodgy†appliance? No. As one of our clients stated about consumers, “They expect champagne cars for lemonade moneyâ€. The CAB state http://goo.gl/VB1zFu that the most complained about consumer issues is around dodgy second-hand cars, with 6000 used car complaints reported a month. Faults are one of the most common problems. Firstly, I take exception to them stating that their complaints are about "dodgy" cars - how can they say that when, for the most part, they only spend a few minutes speaking to one party and are often not mechanically or legally qualified? Secondly, how do they know that those cars were defective? I say the most common problem is “wear and tear†– something that buyers seem to conveniently forget the moment they’ve used the mileage and previous use to negotiate a hefty discount.

I've just been writing about the 997 Sport Classic. A limited edition which was almost a model in its own right, with better handling than the standard 997 and even a unique roof panel. Lovely car!

Are these private buyers or are these the army of kerbside sellers, looking for a quick profit without any of the responsibility we all have?

I have to say it was my 1982 Range Rover 3.5 4 door. It was the 17th factory production vehicle, and when I bought it in 2007, from its one owner, I paid £250 for it. Full history, garaged all of its life and pristine. I sold it in 2010 for £3750, having spent no money on it other than the 3 mots that it passed 1st time. Thought I'd had a result, but I've missed it every day since (not to mention that it's worth £15k+ in today's buoyant Range Rover Classic market. Now need the torch to tinker with my latest one at the roadside......

I dont get attached to cars, so I've never really sold one that i wish i had kept for myself.
