Classic real world cars that WILL go up in value

We love cars here at Car Dealer Magazine. So much so that we're constantly buying them. Recently I bought and restored this Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9. 

 

The chairman of the owners club told me one mint condition 205 GTI with 36k on the clock recently sold for more than £12,000. Which got me thinking - there must be quite a few 'sleeper' classic cars - those that are just on the precipice of becoming classics - that maybe worth buying now.

 

The 205 has always had a cult following, but which cars do you think could rise in value soon? Apart from the Peugeot I'm throwing in Escort RS Cosworths to the mix...

You didn't even mention the XR2, which was a surprise. 

 

A nice R5 GT Turbo maybe, if there's any left. 

 

Or a maybe a original RS Turbo either the Escort or Fiesta.

Couldn't go straight in there with the XR2! Although that is going up. It's doubled in value since I've had it. I still don't think it'll ever quite reach the heights of a mint 205 GTi. I agree on the Renault 5 Turbo front though - would love one of those.

 

I think good Saxo VTS models can't go much lower. There's a whole generation of owners that'll want to go back to them in the future...

Spotted a BMW 1M in flame orange on the M3 yesterday. That will defo go up in value. I want one - what a brilliant car. We had one for our Road Test of the Year two years ago and I loved it. Shame it was slightly over shadowed by the Ferrari 458 we also had along for the ride...

had a Z4M coupe. It was like thunder, looked great, sounded amazing and went like the dark stuff off a shovel, but....  it wasn't easy or fun to drive and if you weren't in the mood for concentrating it was a pig. Heavy clutch, with a mechanism in the system to stop you eating clutch plates which delayed take up, made for awful in traffic manners.... 

 

I remember a friend from BMW telling me to get the normal 3.0si instead... should have listened.

Of course, I'm a little biased but I think the Ford Racing Puma has potential to increase in value. A decent one is currently around £5000 to £6000 (mint one go for more), and at least 2 are already in museums. 

 

It has the key ingredients of low numbers (500 built), beauty, magnificent noise and a dramatic (Sparco blue alcantara) interior

 

It's estimated that only about 250 of the original 500 cars still exist - it's difficult to be precise as DVLA records do not differentiate between Racing Pumas and ordinary ones.

Without doubt sir. I remember my first spin in one like it was yesterday. The editor of the local newspaper I worked for had one on test (he did the motoring column too) and took me for a spin around the Surrey lanes. The sound it made on the overun won me over. The flared arches and the colour were works of genius. I would definitely have one in my dream garage. I'm very jealous.

There was one on Ebay a few weeks back, It had been put in storage and hadn't turned a wheel in 12 years, was in excellent condition externally and inside, but seller couldn't vouch for the engine as it hadn't been started in so long... wanted £17k !

Escort RS Cosworth all day for me. It was a car that was on my bedroom wall when I grew up. They're mostly under £20k now but I'm convinced they're a solid investment. Should put my money where my mouth is really...

You're probably of the same era as me then as I too grew up with the Escort Cosworth splashed over every car mag.

 

I must say I still have a hankering for fast Fords, Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth anyone?
