I'm not joking here. I have bought a used Cop car, it was an AMC Javelin 1974....had police spec' suspension and Twin Grip rear end and four on the floor...that was back in 1995 though;)

Seriously though I would avoid ex-police cars nowadays.

The US operate the same way as they do over here now, in fact the UK use the US practice of out sourcing cars, I can only speak for the counties I know (US and US) for sure but most (if not all, bar specials... surveillance etc?) are on a lease now but with some additions and oddities to the maintainance terms.

I remember when Kent Police went over to Silver cars, only because the lease contract was cheaper than white as the residuals were better....that would of changed now though as white is now the 'in' colour...or was depending on who you talk to.

Anyway, the days of 'money no object' spending practices on plod cars went out the window years ago.

My friend works for BT and they service the local police cars at this depot, pattern parts are always used and usually the cheapest.

I agree, we used to do a few police cars in the late 90s. The CID/unmarked/top brass cars were spot on and fullly specced, even came with service history if you were lucky and sensible miles. White cars were sheds with only the saving grace that white paint was cheap! But, the vans/commercials are good and have potential even now.

Hi,

before buying any used car my suggestion is to get a full vehicle history check from the provider.

My suggestions are

https://theautoexperts.co.uk/
https://www.caranalytics.co.uk/

https://www.freecarcheck.co.uk/

Get a full history check and be peace in mind
