When you are claiming to be a specialist in German / prestige cars and the first car presented on your website is a £499 Focus PX to clear it doesn't give off a great image in my opinion. Default the search as high to low or whatever other way you can to get your best cars presented first. I think some customers would think twice about dropping 20k at a dealer that is also shifting £500 rot boxes.
Also I think given the photography and general presentation could be better.
Ultimately though I think it is the kind of stock. High miles, high depreciation stock is always going to burn a hole in your pocket if it doesn't get turned around quickly.

Thing is do you really want to sell a car to that kind of person? They will be back in 18 months expecting you to replace a the tyres free of charge 'under warranty'... or suing you for misrepresentation on your FSH car because said car was 1500 miles overdue a service in 2010.
I've never been able to get my head around the ones that go over the (faultless) car with a fine tooth comb, negotiate a price and then suddenly have 1 more to look at. I mean do they actually want to buy a car, is it just a cheap day out for them or do they have no social life whatsoever and are desperate for an hour of someone's time?

No offence intended here but the pictures still could be better. There is the reflection of what looks like a junk yard in the paintwork of the car and some of the interior shots are not very sharp.
Also, why do people use phrases like "Here we have presented for sale" and "stunning X colour"? Utterly pointless waffle, clearly the car is for sale and they can see the colour from the pictures. It is the equivalent to starting a letter with "I am writing to you today..."

We all sell cars in the attempt to make money but we do have a legal obligation to our customers too, it's what sets us aside from the cowboys who give the trade a bad name.
It is painful but I agree this is the best option. This is not a £1500 clearance car is it? The full legal email would get my back up. Probably the reason he never paid to extend the warranty is because he 'knows his rights'.
But what can you do. 3 months is not a lot unless he has done huge miles.

Poor ad & pictures. Car arguably has the wrong spec on wheels & no nav. Short MOT as well, presumably you would redo it before sending it out?
I believe if something is priced right it will sell... ok not all cars find a buyer instantly but if you have had it 8 months it time to take a hint! CAP don't buy cars at the end of the day.

Try to avoid. Have you seen the quotes they produce? Those are then knocked down further after inspection, so you can be sure anyone selling to WBAC has a reason; the car is knackered or they are absolutely desperate for cash... usually the former because you can offload anything half decent very quickly on eBay/Gumtree if the price low enough..... and it would still be more than WBAC pay.
When buying these companies often don't even test drive as part of their inspection, they literally just go around looking for minor scratches to try and screw the price down further.
I'm guessing 70% - 80% of their cars have expensive issues.

Any of these weird modern hand brakes or foot operated jobbies found in many Lexus.... just give me a well placed handle to pull please.
Factory fitted sat-nav is massively over rated and often a PITA on older cars.

I will add anything with the 3.0 cdti engine found in older saabs, renault and vauxhall. It is an Isuzu based v6, a total liability and nightmare to work on.

Yes 'last price' is increasingly common, but best price for cash always gets me. Do they think magic beans are an alternative method of payment or something?

Older L332 Range Rovers. Nothing but trouble unless you know what you are doing. I'm also very wary of Vauxhall Diesels they always seem to have issues.

In your example I doubt £200 even covered your costs? Why the hell should you refund it.
It is funny people always come back with a story about a grandparent that has died, a lost job, serious illness or whatever....... but ask them to prove it with a death certificate, P45 or medical letter and they never can.
OP I would put it in writing. Give him another 7 days to pay the balance and collect it. After that you must re-advertise and get rid. I would return the deposit after reselling the car, minus all costs incurred - including depreciation, re advertising fees, storage costs and your time spent chasing him. I think this is reasonable. I'm not sure it is reasonable to hang on to the whole £4000 unless you can demonstrate that loss.
