A lot of people want a diesel for the economy even if they only do 6k a year around town and this is where the problem lies - as they are meant to self regenerate through heat if they don't get a chance to get hot enough to clean themselves they just clog up and nothing is going to stop that happening.
At my previous employer we switched from using the Transit Connect to the Combo 1.3 CDTi in 2007, and had loads of issues almost immediately because the vans were used for short local delivery runs and the DPFs kept getting clogged up.
I don't think the problem is going to go away either, have you seen the price of the Eolys additive you need to use in Peugeots and Fords? It's more expensive than Myrrh! If you look online you also read frightening stories of people using Adblue instead which is never going to end well...
We can provide that data on BMW, Audi, Merc, Mini, VW, Ford and several others. If you email me a couple of VRMs to jamie.edmonds@hpi.co.uk I'll send you the data. We can do Porsche as well, 997, Boxter mk2, Panamera and all Cayennes.
Andy, I nearly bought an MR2 mk3 a few years back, but the boot was such a joke I went for the more practical option of a Lotus Elise!
Most small sports cars seem to be bought as second cars where boot space isn't absolutely critical, but it'll be interesting to see how the F Type does once the inital launch frenzy has died down as the boot in that is a whole new level of tiny.
Anyway, where there's a will there's a way...
It always surprises me how many dealers don't list the optional extras fitted to a car when they advertise it - customers do a lot of research online and will generally only physically look at a couple of cars at most before buying so the ad needs to be compelling enough to make them pick up the phone or send you an email.
When I've been buying cars I've found myself trying to zoom in on grainy photos to try and see if the one I'm looking at has xenon lights or not, but for a lot of customers if they can't tell they will just move on to the next ad in search of the car in exactly the right spec for them. With things like Professional or Business nav on a BMW, and leather or Artico on a Merc it's really important to get it right, otherwise you could be under-selling the car and missing out on potential leads.
