  1. But don't you think ATM now has real price problem? Cars for sale on their are well above what we need on a decent margin and we all know it, you put a px car to clear quickly on ATM and you will get low balled on the phone and emails for days, it worser then Ebay or gumtree sometimes

I guess this reflects the sorts of traders who are now a majority on ATM

I also experienced a first on ATM when a trader agreed a price with me for a nice low miles Volvo I had on there only to turn up and try haggle me to half price! You can say it was worser then selling on eBay to a wideboy, these wideboys are now ATM members so beware

    Anyway rant over

We got stung many times on ATM. All though it's part of our package with autotrader, we no longer use it.

  2. The VAT Margin Scheme is based on the base figure that you purchase the Van for and the figure you then sell the Van for. But what you spend on the Van is not taken in to consideration!

Quick example. You buy the van for £1000 and sell it for £2000. But you have to spend £300 to prep the Van. You'll still have to cough up £200 in VAT! If you've just started out, you're best to wait until you hit the VAT threshold!

  3. If you think you have been stitched up by the dealer then you should also let dealer auction know. Small comfort I know, but you  at least you know never buy off said dealer again. If ever I see a car on there that I fancy but is located in the Wallasey area by a company whose name has royal links then I know the car has been described by their very own labrador and stay clear.

I take it the C4 is a diesel?

To be honest, we have had about 15 cars off this dealer in the past and this is the 1st one to have real issues. They are one of the better dealers on there.

Not had a good run at all on there recently. Went to pick one up recently and the Head Gasket had gone! We obviously point blank refused to take it off their hands as it was not declared. Bought a 1.4 Corsa. Fine when cold, but after about 10 minutes the Timing Chain became VERY noisy. So we have had to change that as it just wasn’t retailable in that condition. Bought the odd one from BCA recently, and they have been spot on (I've jinxed it now lol)

The C4 is a dreaded 1.6 Diesel Sparkey. To be honest, we've had a few and had no issues. One was bound to bite us in the bum at some point. I'll get it up and running I'm sure.

  4. We also know a lot more then the friend you've brought along whos a "mechanic" .. e.g a typical pistonhead forum know-it-all who's spent 5 mintutes on google and parkers and is know an expert on used cars. Make sure he's prepared for the awkward questions and red herrings im going to throw at him for mine and my collegues own amusment after you've gone

Also, do your homework first.. don't sit for an hour trying to knock me down £400 because the timing belt wants/will soon want changing on a car that is chain driven

Don't complain and make snide comments if i havent had time to whip the hoover and sponge over the vehicle you've stopped to see when it's clear you've just been off roading and living in your "immaculate" part exchange for the last 2 years.. atleast empty the ashtray before telling me it's never been smoked in,

It doesn't matter how many floor mats you put in your car.. im still going to look under them to find that massive hole in the carpet you've been trying to hide

LOL, this is turning in to a rant now :D Although, all very good valid points and I've found it very entertaining to read. Anything further to add?

  5. Just because we are open till 18:00 doesn't mean you can turn up at 17:50 and want to test drive every car we have

Don't be upset when i don't laugh at your  "is just like your driving test" joke on the test drive.. its the 10th time i've heard it this week

"how much for cash?".. well it'll cost you the extra £10 it'll cost me to bank it

We're not stupid.. we know you wont "be back at the weekend", we know you don't need to "talk to the wife" or get "insurance quotes"... we just humour you

Dont be upset when we charge a refundable extra on handover day because you've ""accidently"" forgot to bring that ""fully stamped"" service book with you

Your meaning of "mint condition" is far different to mine.. im not giving you a price over the phone

Dont expect a £1000 discount over the phone, before you've even seen the vehicle, i don't care if your 300 miles away

Despite what you think.. we really don't have thousands of pounds profit in every vehicle

Dont use the "i've seen one cheaper elsewhere" line when you haven't even been to see that vehicle

James Corden lies... you wont save over £3,000 selling your car privately

    Brilliant!

  6. I'm afraid trade to trade sales (business to business) aren't covered by the same sale of goods act as retail sales. You could try asking the dealer you bought it off for a goodwill payment or to let you return the car, most likely they will tell you where to go!!.

You only comeback is if the car was mis-described, if they claimed it drives prefectly in the advert you may stand a chance.  Proving the dealer knew anything could be tricky as it take 10 mins for the fault to occur. You have no comeback to the customer but it maybe worth a phonecall to him to find out if he told the dealer about it or if he knows what the exact fault is. If you found that the customer took the car into  the workshops of the dealer you got it from you may have a case against the dealer.

Try finding out info from the customer first then call the garage.

Thanks Gavin! I appreciate this. Really having a bad day today. The police rang up today about a bout a car we have. They think it may be linked to a armed robbery a couple of weeks before we purchased it! In short, they want to cease the car for forensics :( Honestly, today carnt get any worse.

  7. Hi All,

Hope you may be able to help.

Purchased a car off Dealer Auction, a Citroen C4 and picked it up this morning. Everything was fine no engine management lights etc on the dash. Anyway, after about 10 minutes of driving, I merged on to a Dual Carriage way, got up to speed, then BAM! The engine stopped and the Engine management light came on. I tried pressing the clutch to start it again whilst coasting, and it was having none of it, so I had to coast it to find somewhere appropriate to stop. Unfortunately at that point there was no where! I very luckily managed to crawl it on to a grass verge about half a mile down the road (at about 10mph by this time). VERY lucky nothing happened to me or anyone else as I could not of pulled in before at all. I stopped completely and switched of the ignition and it started. I drove back VERY slowly, luckily I only had about 15 miles to do. Anyway, I dropped it straight round to my Mechanic who has had a look. Basically, when the car is warm and over 3500-4000RPM even when stationarry, there is fuel starvation issue and the engine is cut by the ECU! He drove it to the top of the road and it did the same to him. It will only start again when you stop completely and turn the ignition on and off. He's also found out that this code has been reset about 8 times in the last 6 weeks or so from the dates that have been registered on the ECU! In short, the problem was there when we purchased it. The customer knowing sold the car in this state to the dealer and I'm not kidding, I was close to getting wiped out on two occasions! It didn't go in to "limp mode", it went in to full on "Kill Ken Mode!"

So what can I do? Is there any comeback with the dealer or the customer that Part Exchanged the vehicle? Not sure I can have much more bad luck!

I'd really appreciate some guidance with this.

    Thanks.

    Ken

  8. Just had another call from Motors with more help out of the blue! VERY impressed Andy! Thanks again for your help and effort. Great customer service.

Take note Autotrader, this is how you SHOULD look after your customers.

    Thanks Ken

Happy to help, we could do with the calendar doing its bit also and fast forwarding to January (bah humbug!)

@ RandomJord, I believe you are sorted now? apologies for the breakdown in communication.

We are doing everything we can to help our dealers sell more cars, we have been on TV every month this year , just about to shoot new TV commercials for 2015 and significantly investing in extending the network - Carsite. AutoVillage etc. in July and Sun Motors/Sunday Times this month added to Parkers etc., plus Google, Radio, Digital outdoor....

    Regards

    Andy

  9. Ken you need to use the "EYE"

From the dashboard go to useful links on the right and motors tracking response link. (I'm using the current Beta autoedit)

One of their Reps called us this morning! Big thanks to Andy Coulthurst for bending over backwards to try and help us out. VERY impressed with the whole outfit. We just need to generate some sales from it now :)

  10. Anyone use dealerbid?

It has a lot of cars and I get a lot of daily alerts but they mainly seem to be the public selling cars.

Very inflated prices as well, no room for profit.

There are a lot of monthly subs out there but whats the best to use/value for money?

    Cheers

Dealer Auction and Sytner Auction are worth looking at. They are for Dealer only too, so you're not bidding against your own punters.
