  1. Hi car just in from BCA who have have kindly sent me an old style V5 which I can't use to tax the vehicle obviously. What are my options please? assume I have to apply for a new V5 in business name? adding a keeper, a £25 fee and then wait 4 weeks for DVLA to pull there finger out?! Many thanks for any help Huggins

    my thought exactlyB)

I really can't work out how 'click and collect' is much different from turn up and buy....unless it's just the fact you can't try your new car 'on'...like Pri'mani....

I had to collect something bought from Argos, from my local Sainsburys and, I had to wait 15 minutes along with all the 'waiting to be offended, maskless, jogging bottom clad, egg stained, pasty faced and pastie eating fatties' breathing down my arse crack....don't often see a lean 'n mean healthy sort maskless or is that just me?

I say that as a 24 carat bloater myself but, do have the manners to wear a mask, pointless or not....as a caveat I don't have egg stains down my front....I scrap them off before going out in public.

    I like your style Frank!

Can anyone advise with Click and collect if it's permissable to meet customer off site so they can have a look over and drive if all masked up and windows open etc? I think the answer is still no but why not?

The last 3 cars I bought from BCA were the week before the first lockdown! Two I bought in person, were prepped and sold as soon as we were allowed with great margins, the third I bought online, and it's horrific! I only pushed myself to look at it this lockdown when I'd run out of things to do! After 5 solid days prep I'll be lucky to get money back, how can people bid on 10 year old plus cars with no appraisal?

I'd go to auction with 40+ possibles marked down, by the time you've checked them the list has dropped to 5-8 cars.

I can't bring myself to sell sub standard cars, we've built a good reputation over the years, have repeat customers and local garages who recommend us, I'm not going to start buying cars blind and try to palm them off on decent people who trust us.

If Manheim and Aston Barclay go the same way as BCA I really can't see a future.

I guess there enough traders who are happy to show a car 10 times before finding someone willing to buy, or enough new traders buying and getting stung to keep the conversions up for the vendors, all the time that's the case the auctions would be crazy to let us come on site and see what were buying!

This is it in a nutshell, left trying to sell a bag of sh!te we'd never normally touch with a barge pole and 9/10 we have to give to much for them to begin with! Then in my experience if you buy an absolute lemon you'll have to live with it as BCA and the vendor were oblivious to the glaring faults.

"how can people bid on 10 year old plus cars with no appraisal? " if you get very close to your screen and study hard on the "beauty shots" (BCA's own term for photo) you'll be able to notice all the bad paint, scratches and damages and bid accordingly. Then you just need to use your powers visualisation to get an idea of  how it's going to smell, sound and run when it arrives :D

    Hi Mate,

Hope you are good. I've often struggled with E class coupes. I think they are a decent car and quite good value but problem is they just aren't hugely desirable.

Your pictures could be a lot better. Silver is hard work but I would put some effort in. See on your pics the bumpers look like its a different colour. They all do on silver but try to hide it.

Also the chrome window surrounds really could be better cleaned up so they don't look all TFR marked. A bit of peek polish. Do some pics with windows up, windows down.   Try and find somewhere better for the pics than the side of the road just a nice open car park or something.

When a buyer / prospective buyer is online they have 100s / 1000s to look at don't they so you have to get the first image to be what I think of as a thumb stopper. A really good eye catching shot that makes them stop what they are doing and click into your car.

If its not gone after 30 daysI would probably chuck some window tint on it and then black or grey wheels and maybe even a cheap ebay rear lip spoiler and put the price up 500 just to cover cost and then get it gone, but then again 99% of my stock looks like that.

I can't stress enough that video sells cars and is the best selling tool. That car will look miles better with a video. Probably 75% of the other cars you are up against won't have a video so you will automatically be better and you can show the various bits and pieces working.

A couple of vids/ pics of e class coupes done by the lad we have doing them if it gives inspiration.

Rory your photo's and video's look great. Which camera do you use for the videos please and assume you have some kind of suction mount tripod to hold it steady?

Some great advice here from everyone btw - we all have cars that stick about .....2 months doesn't sound much to me!

  5. A real pet hate of BCA declaring cars hammer down sold and then they turn up on the buy it now platform. Unbelievably slippery tactics they get away with!

I find it an exhausting headache trying to negotiate all the auction halls, vendors etc at BCA spend hours sat on my ass reading reports gaining weight in a chair and 9/10 everything makes way more than would leave me a profit when accounting for the faults/ paint listed , let alone the inevitable hidden ones! Much preferred seeing the cars, famiiliar faces and stretching the legs at the auctions.

Then when I finally get something sensiible mileage  bought which a sure fire seller with some wages, it turns up with an umissably  knackered auto gearbox that BCA/Vendor  were obvioulsy completely unware off (see my other post!)

  6.  I have a sinking feeling i've been doing myself out of pocket by not reclaming my VAT correctly for years? ... Can someone please clariy.

Have been standing vehicles in for example ; hammer price (1000)  plus auction fee (150 )  assurance cost (35)  plus delivery INCLUDING the VAT ammount (120) £1305

But suspect I should have accounted as £1185 SIV and added delivery as an expense at 100 and reclaimed the VAT element ?

Obviously this is only feasible where delvery is shown as plus VAT on the invoice.

    Regards Huggins

  7. Daft question but looking at the the 50k loan - I notice the total interest repayment over 6 years is £3177 which equates to £44 a month, however on the illustartion it states repayment for month 13 (end of first year interest free) is £937.50? Can someone please clarify this for me please . Cheers Huggins

Hi have just looked at my local council web page and the only mention of the fund I can find is the "we will contact " part? What did you search for / what did the application look like on your council website please?

We have applied for the 10k we are due because of business rate levels , see if it comes , cant see why not really when they have said it .

Strange asking for money from someone else  rather than myself , first for me since i got 6d for going to school every morning from mother . Bought more with that 6d than £500 nowdays or that's how it felt :D

Can you please let me know where to apply. Last post I read on this forum, we were advised to wait for local council to contact us next month?

I agree with everyone it feels very weird to be fully winding down with no real time frame at the moment. I am trying not to worry about the price drop on my existing stock?!

  11. Am I missing something with this fund? The fund doesn't take into account the overheads for us car dealers. A mobile hairdresser for instance would have virtually no overheads and can wait for this pandemic to pass but those of us with sites or workshops etc have to cover off all our fixed overheads from this grant? Which would leave me just about breaking even on the business (but with a residential mortgage still to pay and a wife and children to feed and provide copious amounts of toilet roll for :))

Fleet Auction have waived their online fees

Thanks for the heads up CJ. Do you get much from this outfit? if so are the appraisals  generally up to scratch? and which vendors are the most reliable and which to avoid! Thanks again
