  1. Standard BCA "customer care" you only have two options unfortunately a, suck it up and keep running the gauntlet or b, stop buying off of the slippery scumbags. I think the only dealers who have any leverage are the big boys buying lots of units per month and even then I'm sure they have to jump through hoops!

  2. Yes i've been getting increasingly frustrated with the mad prices. When I get desperate for stock and bid more than I ought to and.. still get out bid?!

Looks like I'm going to be on for a loss this month due to the lack of stock, first time in 17 years!!

Yet some local dealers are full to the rafters with mid range stock but can only assume they've given ALL the money for the stock and are hoping for the best. I don't think I'm brave enough or trust the auction appraisal enough for this business model.

Before my grandad passed away I agreed to sell his car for him. It was around £10k and he decided not to drive anymore. TBH it actually cost me money to sell it but I wanted to help him, it ended up actually being the last time I ever saw him as he passed away not long after it sold.

I had this broke uncle always gambling just a loser, bit of a pisshead aswell. He was telling him that his car was worth loads more and that I was ripping him off.  Kept tying to get him to take it to we buy any car.   This guy literally wanted to block me from selling it and getting more as he felt I was getting something out of it. He would rather have had him get less money than me earn a tenner.  Nothing as strange as people.

Family can be so weird when it comes to money. Many would rather someone else make the money?!

That was a superb scheme for Army personnel normally based in Germany. Nearly all of car manufacturers gave very substantial discounts on top of the 20% VAT saving.  There were thousands of cars going over thought this sales channel. The manufacturer I worked for gave 18% discount and free LHD headlamps in most of their range. I was supplying over 150 cars a year.

As you only had to keep the car 9 -12 months, most changed their car yearly as nearly all made money from the scheme and I would get really clean year old low mileage cars to sell on. Normally the cars were only driven short distances by the wives while in Germany and most of the mileage was normally done driving them to Germany and then back again to swap for the new one. They where good times

Yes, I’ve sold a quite a few over the years, no real issues as long as it’s uk spec, you just have to change the date of reg on the Autotrader advert back to 2012.
Most customers are absolutely fine with it when you explain it to them and to be honest if they start to get funny about it the they are probably not customers you would want anyway.
There was a car super market nearby that used to bring them over by the transporter load and re-register them, they never had any problems selling them. Motab even went through phases of offering free delivery over to the uk to shift them.

If it’s a nice straight car, with history I can’t see a problem and you might be able to get it a little cheaper if your lucky due to the re-register.

Brilliant that's  a great help, thanks.

It could also be from the Armed Forces overseas vat exemption scheme. Basically it’s squaddies buying UK spec cars abroad cheaper.

When I’ve had them I didn’t mention anything in the advert & ensured all of the dates on the adverts are correct. However I do mention it in passing when the customer has a raging hard-on for the car & we are going through the paperwork.

I often find the log book will only say the manufacturer which confuses the auto-populated boxes on the advertisers websites so check everything including model, number of seats, doors etc.

Finally, as long as the car has been insured in the UK the customer should not have a problem getting insured as the car is already correct on the insurance database.

Many thanks for your help as always BHM, really appreciated.

  6. Hi have been offered an Astra but despite being a 2012 states first registered UK Oct 2015, there is no mention of registered overseas on the front of the logbook? Any ideas wondering if registered in the channel islands perhaps but surely logbook would state? Garage who supplied customer said it was just not registered until 2015! but MOT history shows it was 11k miles at that stage?!

  7. Then the ones who after making all the right noises pre-test drive "It's really nice , exactly as you described!" .... say "yes it's really perfect, can I call you first thing in the morning as I need to have a chat with the wife."

You feel like a punching them straight between the eyes

These are the very people WHO STATE we as traders /businesses MUST treat people FAIRLY too  .

we must tell customers we get coms , find customers cheaper deals , tell customers every thing , all the private stuff that was considered private at one time and rude to ask about .

But the FCA can dish £250 fines for anything they choose .

My daughter rang to ask about the complicated system they have , Some lady went through it all , Didnt tell us where the submit button was , £250 for thinking it was done , We went bat shite at them , not our fault was the reply , we stuck it out and they said " just this once they would not fine us " how f@@@@@g kind of them .

    Theiving gits

Yes exactly David. How long before you found out they would waive the fine for an innocent mistake on their horseshit system?

I've had enough of dealing with the FCA. Went through so many hoops trying to get the license, which then took them nearly a year to process due to Covid. Now get fined for not completing processes that don't exist on their terrible portal. Call them for help, fail security. Go around and around in circles. Ask to cancel - this takes 6 months! They are even worse than the DVLA to deal with. Frustrates me so much I'm throwing in the towel and not doing finance in house any more.
I've looked at The Compliance Guys, but their fees are too high as we do so little finance anyway.
So I'm going back to just passing finance leads to brokers. Are there any out there can work with that will pay a referral commission?

Yes I got hit with a not insignificant fine of £250 for not confirming my address was still the same on the new "connect portal" it's not easy to navigate and at the end you have to search for a submit button after it looks like everything has been submitted. This has to be done every year. Surely a £250 fine for NOT notifying a change of address would make more sense, rather than having to confirm your address is the same every year.

I don't know many other organistions that could get away with such a large fine without first given written notification in form of an actual letter rather than relying on e-mails which get easily lost in busy inbox etc

Wow, I hadn’t thought of that. When you say “do it smartly with your customer” do you mean Roger them whilst wearing a suit?  Thanks for the shit advice you prick.

  11. Update! After 38 mins on hold I got through to the DVLA welsh hotline and the chap there tells me I can 100% tax at post office using the old V5 that I have and just fill in new keeper details, don't even need a V62 apparently. I checked and double checked with him and he assured me this would be straight forward, I'm dubious! Just wish I had an app to record these calls on my phone....

What do you reckon my chances of success are?

  12. 1 hour ago, BHM said:

Correct. If it’s not in trade it cannot be taxed immediately.

OK thanks so check Monday with DVLA... who were so busy do to covid on Friday they didn't have anyone to answer the phones!!

Assume if not in trade I will have to V62 it to the business?

    Thanks again
