  1. I gave up putting stuff in auctions years ago. I sell trade in bangers on gumtree when I need to. Ring your local trading standards officer (always good to be on speaking terms with them and get to know them!) they'll give you pointers. It's not illegal. But "sold as seen" and "trade sale" is very dodgy territory and means nothing. Sold for "spares or repairs only" with known faults listed on the advert and receipt is legit. I print a copy of the advert and receipt and buyer signs both. But I still pdi it on the ramp believe it or not! Because yes as Dave said you're 100% liable if it's unroadworthy so I try to sell anything in the unroadworthy category to a known trader only. Or I state not roadworthy and honestly don't let them drive it away. (Even phone a recovery company for them if I need to!). If I let them drive it away it someone could be killed on his way home or even just stopped by traffic cops would come back to me.
  2. Dave, i know it's difficult explaining because I hate the idea of bad mouthing anyone else, so I just don't do it. I stick to general facts like admin fees and the quality of what WE do (not what EH etc don't do). Interesting you saying last 2 years. Yes I'm finding the bottom line price thing with customers more and more of a challenge all the time, even ones who trust me and want to but from me...
  3. Yes, retailed in whatever state they come in. Truth is last year I had a customer for a car, EH had one in (full history) at less than I'd pay at the block for same car. I went and bought it from them!! Did the bodywork and retailed it. They'd agreed to paint a dent for me but yes like you said Stevie wonder special. I redid it. Fortunately I knew EXACTLY what I was going in to but they lied to me and left me in no doubt about how their customers feel... I hate loosing a sale if I've got a customer sitting but not sure I'd do it again to be honest. Good for us if customers experience it for themselves but nightmare for price comparison. I'm forever explaining to customers the difference - admin fees, crap tyres, condition, etc..
