As others have said move into another market! Unless you specialise in such cars, from what I see at the block, it’s impossible to even try to make a proper wage on such items.

After saying that I’m sure plenty make their money on newer small cars with finance etc. but the sub £3K small car market nowadays is dominated by the Gumtree/FB lads working for £2-400 a bonnet, sold ‘as-is’ off the back of a succession of £20 PAYG phones.

hi these are 4 to 9 k retail i sell

My Like button dosent work so to show appreciation to a fellow members post i replied with the word LIKE.

No one is forcing you to use auto trader. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you pay there bill or use there markers. Dont like it them simply leave.

Also haven't assumed anything about you. If i had i probably would of commented something along the lines off: "I dont feel you are mentally stable enough to do this job if your seriously considering legal action over some price markers" . What do you do when a billy wants to return a car god i would hate to be one of your customers.

I have never once tried to be clever on here i am a mere goldfish in an ocean  but i also dont take to the internet to cry about a service provider and threaten legal action. I would like to quote sparky again here " Did they put a gun to your head Narcos style when they did this? "

my reply was actually for sparky

    I’ve grown to like Autotrader.
my lowest cost per sale this month of any advertising platform. Responsible for dropping my stock in front of people far and wide in the UK.
great product and great platform when it used correctly.

sold a good few high price ones. They were priced high for a reason.  Customers knew that and still bought.

Buyers aren’t stupid, autotrader aren’t stupid but your crusade is and could be better spent doing something useful. Have you got pictures/video / good description of everything online.

im not on a crusade .im not happy with indicators at all regardless of all your above points, its not about my business its purely about the indicators

    Becky you need to chill

I have known plenty of motortraders go do lally dong this job

One was buried last month and I didn't even get the chance to say goodbye because of motor trader politics

I seriously suggest you just stand back and reappraise if this job is for you

    Please

I'm fine mate, ill still be here for a while well thats not garenteed at all but it won't be because of this game i go.I get what your saying though. Ive had good sales and quiet times, sold some for cost but no loss.It will take an awfull lot for me to quit.

It’s just a guide like cap etc ?

    should they be banned aswell

    WBAC similarly

cap guide is on items that are not being offered for sale at a determined price and will be decided by market prices on the day in the hall. AT price indicators are their judgement on a fixed price set by the seller on an item he owns .It is very different

You do not need Autoraper. They're not the be all and end all that they once (perhaps) were.

    Blockbuster video.

You should have spent your evening not letting the shysters get you angry.

You have zero chance of changing anything. I wish I was wrong, but I’m not.

To quote AD from years ago on here: ‘Mr Customer does not want a cheap parachute’. Those that do, you do not want as your customer.

So what if you have a high price marker?

Use it to your advantage or better still, vote with your feet and save the dough/put it elsewhere. Or just do as suggested above and just pick and choose what you do advertise with Dick Turpin.

well they robbed me for sure

I think most dealers agree with you that price markers are unfair and inaccurate.AT reps will be getting it in the neck every day.I think they will be gone by the autumn because dealers en mass will be reducing their AT listings. Its a PLC and this will show through in their results and could effect the share price.

    i hope your right

What do you want ? Someone with experience to manage you ?

not at all don't know where you get that opinion of me from i can assure you ill live by the sword and die by the sword. As i will do in this case i will try and do something about what i believe to be a prejudiced marketing policy by auto trader with or without any support. I only asked for peoples opinion on price indicators, the legality of it and if anyone would support any action against them in the unlikely event that they were acting improperly. Is that ok or are you the grandmaster of the old boys club of dealers

sorry but this is just nonsense, which law would you use ? misdescribed ? no its not, READ autotraders way of valuing, and see where they get the figures from ?

sorry didn't realise autotrasers trade prices were correct what a dunce i am . As for what law thats exactly my point, find out if they can apply a price valuation on something they have not seen.read back. have you even questioned any of this or do you just do what your told and carry on

LOOK INSTEAD OF DEFENDING AUTOTRADER can anyone please tell me of any other second hand items platform that have price indicators on items for sale

  10. 5 minutes ago, beckly car sales said:

the plan is to establish if you can legally apply compare the market method on new items to secondhand items. read back

its not like anyone else does is it or let me know if they do. Would you expect price indicators on Rightmove??

Trading Standards is for punters.I think it is the Competition and Markets Authority you would need to contact.I think there is more chance of Man City getting relegated like Saracens for cheating.

well at least ill have had a go.thanks for info regarding trading standards ill see what it brings.

  12. the way its going, and price indicator method of AT and car gurus you will turn around in 15 years and the independants will be gone. Car supermarkets and AT etc all one. If it hasn't already happened.

1 minute ago, Arfur Dealy said:

Why fight the hand that feeds you. As soon as they find out what you are trying to do you’ll be banned. If you don’t like it then hand your notice in.

i did, just place a few paid up front ads whilst i try to find a way to survive.

  13. thanks for the input. If there was any doubt that their indicators were legally questionable on a point of law then you wouldn't support action against them. I will contact trading standards and anyone else i can think of and post any findings, I'm getting the impression people have given in to the giant and have no fight in them, like AT are god.

For a start you won't be able to speak to TS...... This is an interesting question, I see your perspective....

compare the market principles for identical objects in exactly the same condition is normal. But every single secondhand car is completely unique, and as it has not been physically inspected by AT how can they value it?

  15. i agree to that they have properly fucked me. I started last summer after being out the game 35 years and they led me up the garden path telling me i was buying wrong cars etc take this desirability app and you'll do okay so i clear my stock and buy sought after cars in my area in then they bring in the indicators.Fucking spot on AT

I'm getting the feeling that AT and the car supermarkets are the same animal

  16. ok so not much support on here which is fine i wanted to gauge if anyone agreed that putting a price indicator on an individual unique secondhand item was legally questionable or not.I personally think it is and will get in touch with trading standards when i get back in 10 days and post what they say. Has anyone else taken advice on this??
