Buyers be very carefull out there ! theres plenty of self insurance, third party only etc cars out there flood damaged, and abi catagories are just meaningless nowadays, been told its only gone up to sills and hence cat d is meaningless, insurance companys just want as much back as possible, hell i am expecting that flooded/stripped audi mentioned on here popping up somewhere catc

Yes - back to basics more than ever, check the part x with a good eye, we got stung last time with a diesel that had been flood damaged and was dried out, but once got the vehicle running noticed it had a misfire due to engine damage, slap on wrist and reality check to ensure you follow process

yip,please pardon the pun but  the market could become flooded with these cars, as they will end up somewhere!

Hopefully with the number of sensors on cars these days it will be easier to spot ! A friend with his own independent is running round in a flood damages written off 2008 Focus TDI. It was cheap, but has been a lot of trouble, things just keep failing !

 

He does tell me a story of a local character from around Woking who used to buy these, tart them up and sell them on back in the eighties. He bought a Sierra that had been up to its windows in a river. Cleaned it up and sold it on, he thought he'd done a good job until the punter brought it back to complain about the Cassette player. He couldn't get a tape in it, so he'd taken it apart assuming a tape was stuck in it. Turns out it was full of mud.

 

He managed to bluff his way that they had stuck an old unit in it as the original hadn't been working apparently....

the salvage yards are now running out of room down south and moving vehicles up north, you cant just put salvage in any yard, enviromental reasons
