  1. How many of you guys on here are part time home dealers? Maybe holding stock from, lets say 1 to 5. And the burning question is do you sell? How many a month? Does it vary depending on time of the year. Are there months you don't sell anything? Oh also, I have applied for a trade account at Manheim with all the correct documentation and have payed. Just wondering if any of you guys know how long they take to process it? I applied last Wed hoping 24-48 hours and it would be sorted as I want to attend my first buying auction next Tue. Been to a couple to suss things out. Cheers, Nick.
  2. Hi Guys, Getting there slowly. Trade plates and insurance sorted. First auction next Tue : ) So i've been looking at autotrader and see that all the trade sellers on there have there business logo and or business name. Is it possible to do this without having a website as i'm selling part time and from home? Do I need to contact autotrader? Or possible to add in the dealer portal? Thanks again Nick.
  3. Thanks guys, really helpful as usual, cheers.
  4. Would you do the same on the motorway Steve as ANPR cameras wouldn't see them no? So if there not taxed or have no MOT it could cause unwanted hassle or a ticket or fine??
  5. Hi Guys. As a newbie I was just wondering how you guys display them. Just chuck them on the dashboard or actually change or stick over the originals? The reason I ask is my first set are on there way and i'm going to be driving back from bristol to gloucester on the M5 and wouldn't want any tickets obviously. Do they even have ANPR cameras on motorways? I'm thinking they do. Basicly what can I get away with. What do you guys do? I've never seen a set of trade plates placed over originals?? Cheers, Nick.
  6. Cheers guys, i'll give them a ring tomorrow.
  7. So let me get this right.....Some of you home, low stock, part time dealers use hpi trade.com?? I looked at the app and the reviews say it's terrible. BUT if you guys use it and trust it then i'll give it a go as i've now decided to take on px's. With the HPI check on their website/app do you get Cap/Glass prices as well? All I want is the best HPI check and CAP/GLASS valuations combined, per car, as I only shift low stock. As I said above I could use Cap but not willing to pay £700 just for a few cars a month. Any help advice appreciated......again : ) Cheers.
  8. Just had a chat with CAP -£590+vat these must be what you guys use? Even as a small part time seller? Or just don't take PX??
  9. Cheers for the replys. Right...Newbie question of the year : ) Where do you guys get your valuations for part exchanges? As I understand the little black book doesn't exist anymore?? I know when I buy from an auction I can check cap/glass prices as there there on the sheet and then also compare on autotrader etc before I even leave the house. I did get a quote to use the Glass service but fuck me they wanted £800 so I don't think so.
  10. Hi Guys, As a start up i'm not really liking the idea of taking on part exchanges as I will only be holding no more than 3 cars (bought from auction Grade one or two) at a time and don't want the hassle of taking on a car I know nothing about......So do any of you small, part time, home dealers refuse part exces? If so does it have any affect on your business? Thanks again, Nick.

    Payment?

Been looking at worldpay. Yeah wouldn't want the hassle of someone needing to come out to my house, just unnecessary.. . Can I ask what you use then? Cash only? smartphone to smartphone as in bank transfer?

    Payment?

Thanks guys. Yeah 8 grand cash doesn't look professional, agreed. RJ ill look into iZettle but 2.75% is quite steep. Aint easy is it. What about smart phone banking? Phone to phone banking. I just sold my cbr600rr £5100 and we did the transaction like that, so so easy. But I guess if a 70 year old woman turns up maybe she wouldn't get it? More research needed or pay the price for a chip and pin machine. Need to see their prices. Cheers. Does anyone use this company chipandpinsolutions.co.uk? Im sure you bigger dealers do or similar. What would I expect to pay for a year's agreement? Or do they work on a percentage per transaction basis? Thanks again Nick
  13. Hi Guys. As a newbie I was just wondering how you take payments if you are a part time trader from home? Cash? Bank transfer? Or do you buy/rent a chip & pin machine? Car values would range from £4000 to £8000 if that makes any difference? Cheers, Nick
  14. Thanks for all the advice/feedback guys much appreciated. Cheers.
  15. Steve, even if the car is bought from an auction? Ford warranty would still be valid for all parts and for the labour? Sorry if this is a stupid question : ) Cheers.
  16. Thanks for getting back to me guys. Another thing, i've been talking to warranty wise, anybody use them? As I'm still in the process of setting up could anyone give me a rough price of their warranties? They wouldn't give me any prices until i have my trade insurance. For an example a fiesta 2014 25000 miles FSH. 3 -6 months warranties? Thanks again, Nick.
  17. Hi all, Probably been talked about a thousand times. But i'm in the process of my start up. Just wanting to know some good, reasonably priced cosmetic repair companies. Do you non mechanic dealers use companies http://completecarcosmeticsderby.co.uk/ or ChipsAway or are they just a rip off? Although i've heard they are good at what they do??? Local body shops? Obviously I'm wanting top quality service at a reasonable price. Any recommendations appreciated. Tried to upload some examples but wont let me for some reason? Cheers, Nick.
  18. Thanks for the advice guys. Firstly I know there is not likely to be a 2000 grand profit on a car, just easier to do the maths : ) Also how come vat would only be £333 not £400 on £2000 if vat is 20% I thought it would be £400? I'm friendly with our account at work so will have a chat with him tomorrow. Last thing is..... Why does the government make it so bloody hard for people to make a living!! 20% tax!! 20% vat plus NI charged at 9% so in total 49% to them. Have I got this right? A yes or no will do unless more complicated. I am aware I can claim back certain things but nothing like what I'd lose on profits. Cheers.
  19. Hi, Ok so I have a full time job but want more income and I'm very interested in selling used cars from home. I have £10000 capital. Ive sorted trade insurance quotes, ready for a trade account at Manheim, been to a couple of auctions. (profit margins look quite good) Looked into trade plates etc. So I think i'm starting to understand the business. (tell me if i'm wrong : ) BUT i'm a bit confused with VAT, tax and NI. So in need of some advice, I'm only looking to sell 1 maybe 2 cars a month so not needing to be VAT registered. So the bottom line question is......Will I have to pay 20% VAT, 20% TAX and 9% NI on cars I sell? So basically half of my profits. I would only buy VAT margin cars from the auctions. So basicly is there any money to be made if I have to pay 50% of my profit to the government? Or am I wrong? For example Car bought for - £10000 Sold for £12000 Profit £2000 - Vat on the £2000 = £400 -Tax on the £2000 = £400 and the 9% NI on taxable profit... So profit would then be £1092? Is this correct? I'm not registered as a sole trader yet. Any advice appreciated, Thanks, Nick.
