I didn't either! No joke, I thought early on it could have been that someone had put a can of diesel in at BCA, but sniffing the filler it smelt so much of unleaded I ruled it out! Swapped loads of parts with another car we had in stock, but kept thinking "it's just like it's running on rubbish fuel" , bit the bullet and pulled the tank out (took about 5 mins) , then put the petrol in a clear glass and it was so much darker than fresh!!

  2. We had an Aygo with same engine a while ago, running rough, smoking (but no fault codes), did compression test, swapped temp sensor, coil packs, plugs from another car we had here, then checked the tank.... The fuel smelt stronger of unleaded then fresh unleaded! Whipped the tank out and it had been missfuelled! Ran great on  just unleaded!!

  3. So sad :( , here's hoping to as quick and full recovery as possible. As someone who has been at PW week in week out for years now I really feel for all involved, it's just so busy over there now, volume has increased massively, and staff numbers have never been so low it seems, also a high turnover of staff, I really hope the driver wasn't feeling under undue pressure.

not tried, all log books at work !

Lol, I'll get up then!! Entered it into the latest box, first time it came up with an error, the second time all the stations came up :) , que panic when we buy cars all serviced at the main dealer on the same day as MOT only to find they've been MOT'd here, there and every flippin' where!

On the mot history you can once again see test location, you'll need the latest log book though and enter the 11 digit number :)

Just spotted this too, have you tried one? Do you have to enter v5c number to view each years test station? Would get proper tedious very quickly!

  6. Well that was a full day! Decided to blank Preston, managed to nurse the lovely little 34k Yaris to Bedford with a badly slipping clutch and no a/c, luckily managed to buy another one there, got the first one recovered from the car park, and drove the second one back with a lovely clutch and ice cold a/c, 5.00am start, home at 7.40pm all good fun!!

  7. Morning everyone, I've never been to BCA Preston, I'm considering leaving a proxy bid on a car in the Hadwins VW Audi section, it's a 57 plate, so too old for a proper appraisal, it's grade 4 which can be near enough a write off at Paddock Wood or Enfield.

I'm on the train to collect a car and can't bid online as I don't use an Apple device.

Just wondered if anyone who buys regularly from Preston has an opinion on the grading and also how the pricing is.

    Thanks in advance

  8. On the bigger zetec they're inside the channel between the two cams where the plugs live, I imagine the 1.25 and 1.4 are the same?? I've changed them on a 1.6 before but not yet on the smaller engines.

  9. I'm sorry but I couldn't give a mechanic a cambelt job if he's not capable of replacing two piss easy core plugs! Any one who can pick up a hammer could be shown how to replace them, a cambelt is one of the most important jobs too do right!

  10. We had this with a Hyundai Getz (08 '58 from memory), a few years ago, Googled the fault, on the Getz it was the two wire multiplug to the immobilizer antenna, we just had to cut out the multiplug and solder the wires and heat shrink them to get rid of the resistance of the plug.
