  1. Thanks Dave, it does help and I appreciate your time. She hasn't got in touch with me again since the first call, I was expecting to to call and come around yesterday but nothing so far. I will follow what you say and have lined up the garage to check it over. Just to say it is re-assuring to hear advice from a professional on how to do things - thanks again.
  2. Thanks for your advice all, I'd forgotten about the V5C not being sent off and even asked about using it twice a little while ago! I guess it was the stress of this unexpected event yesterday that I panicked. I will ask a garage to check over the car before handing over the cash if she agrees to let me do so. Thank you all again
  3. I wasn't prepared for this, amateur sadly, so no terms and conditions. I will be refunding her, just wondering how to go about the V5C and reselling the car, once the issues have been addressed by the garage. Will I need to put the car in my name to get a new log book as the new keeper won't be able to tax the car? Feeling a numpty...
  4. Hi All, Can I ask for a bit of advice please. I sold a fiesta last week and delivered to the customer and was paid in cash. I was just called by her to say that all the dash lights are on the car (engine management, power steering, doors etc) and there is a smell of petrol and the car cuts out on her. She asked for a refund and I kind of agreed, as she wasn't interested in getting it repaired though I asked that she call me during the day tomorrow and bring it over. Questions I have are; 1. I believe she is entitled to a full refund but do I have the option of repairing it instead? I say this as it seems everything that could possibly go wrong has, it has full ford history and had no issues for the period of time I had it. 2. When I give her the refund how is the log book handled? It was a 1 owner car, I haven't notified dvla of a change of ownership yet (I'd read someone say they give it a week or so before doing so and thought it was a good idea). She has taxed it but I don't know if she sent off the new keeper slip. How would I resell the car? Appreciate your time all, thanks
  5. lol I agree! ....though there are nice parts there so it may be possible!
  6. Thanks David, Matt, Casper, and all those above. I've cut the margins low and manual fiesta has civic hybrid have now both gone. I will however say I won't be buying another civic hybrid, their clientele have expectations that differ to reality! And appreciate the advice regarding the fiesta, although it sold quick it was due to the owners/history/colour combo that did it and the phone didn't exactly ring off the hook (2 calls and one person came to view and bought it). Space is an issue as I have off road parking for four cars, hence the query around the tax (I've read the 500m rule and would abide and none of the cars have any signs stating they are for sale). I do live next door to a church, so may approach them for renting a couple of parking spaces though... This life is a world apart to what I was doing in the past, and I can now first hand appreciate the effort, time, skill and knowledge that goes into it. Not to mention the public facing elements! All a learning experience and my thanks to you all again!
  7. Thanks again all. There is definate truth in case of stocking cars I like, but I took it with the approach of the cars I have found to be reliable over the years. Certainly not the BM's (I like them and up to recently had 2 of my own but don't think I could sell them with confidence). At present it is a 08 civic hybrid, 14 yaris hybrid and a couple of 10 plate fiesta's. I won't be delving into older german marks and I've never had good personal experience with Pug/Citroen but may need to change my approach to them. Got to sell something first though! The thing with the pricing was I kept it in line with others on the trader and was worried that if I price them too low (where I could) it would look as though there is something wrong with them. But again, lesson learned, when it comes to re-advertising I will be pricing with a view to keeping margins low. And I want to thank you all again, your words and time is much appreciated.
  8. Many thanks all for your replies, I'm grateful. @Ratt101, Thank you, based on this I won't be taxing any cars, I think it will just be easier to drive on the trade plates when needed @Casper, @D&M, Thank you @trade vet, my reasons for entering this trade was, I had a bit of money saved up which, having lost my job, was dwindling and having spent many years advising others on cars, servicing and maintenance and that it has always been a love of mine made me think that I should give it ago. I'm happy buying cars but was never interested in selling, so this is the new area for me. I'm prepping the cars and addressing any concerns raised by the garage to ensure I reduce the risk of any comebacks. I'm getting a bit ott on the valeting side too but ultimately where I'm going wrong is the pricing (I'm presuming) as they are not moving but the ticking clock is costing. Sorry long story, but I think it was a combination of something I thought I'd enjoy with the expectation that I could earn enough to keep things ticking over financially. Thank you all again
  9. Afternoon All, Firstly, thank you for allowing me onto this forum. I am newcomer into this field and still learning the ropes having been forced to leave my normal field of work due to work drying up. I've registered my company, managed to get a trade accounts from manheim and aston barclay and purchased a handful of cars. Selling them it turns out is not so easy (I was expecting that to be fair!) and currently running each car through a service with my trusted garage before cleaning and advertising. A question I have, for which I'm getting a little conflicting advise, is on taxing using the new keeper supplement. If I were to tax it and someone buys the car from me, can they then reuse the same slip and tax the car to drive away and it remain taxed when I send off the log book (or fill it in online). I would be taxing via DD which would then be cancelled before the end of the month. Apologies for the dumb question, I do have trade plates, it would be helpful if I could tax one or two cars whilst they are for sale. And yes... I am a door stepper, as I do not have enough savings to set up a pitch and all the costs that come with it. Thanks for reading.
