  1. Something I’ve noticed at BCA and try to watch is cars going through in dealer groups with a report that’s basically telling you it's knackered on week 1, then going through on week 2 with no report.

I put one through the blocks with BCA days before lockdown and it didn’t make reserve, it’s not on the ‘online only’ multi vendor listings so I called to ask why and had it sold. They told me that they don’t do online only for ‘private sellers’, I’m a platinum card holder so wonder who else’s do they list? Dealer groups listing in multi vendor?

im not sure who the typical Copart customer is these days? YouTubers, dreamers, who knows? Brexit will have an impact that’s for sure.

Definitely, according to my local Copart account manager (who contacted me by facebook when i was trying to clear a spares/repair smokey 1 series on marketplace) a lot of their customers are exporters who will either strip them down for parts or clock them, fill it up lucas oil stabiliser and flog them on overseas..

  3. I'd quite happily have a punt on some cheap fixers but whenever I've watched anything remotely interesting, it always seems to make money only sensible for something that hasn't been written off! The collection worries me a bit as well, I've heard it's a nightmare and takes hours. I haven't got the patience these days

He's worth a watch . I used to watch him on a tv show years ago

Really? Can you remember what it was called?

P.s, I tend to buy online, despite being 10 minutes from my local BCA. It allows me to get on with other things while still being able to bid, I can't really afford to spend half a day at the auction hall twice a week. Although I do enjoy bidding in person when I get the chance/ make time

  5. I must be bored as I'm sat here organising the apps on my iPhone! What apps do you use to help you get the job done easier?

    I use:

VehicleSmart - for checking MOTs, recalls etc can do free MID checks and HPI checks too

Totalcarcheck - does the same as above with more details on spec of vehicle

CarValue - cheap valuation app. I wouldn't buy based on prices but for 10-20p a pop its handy to show to a customer to give them a reality check about their 15 year old Mondeos px value

Snapseed - free photo editing app, handy for making gloomy pics more attractive

Just to follow up on this, I got in touch with Ashley who sorted me a policy with more cover and still managed to save me about £1600 all told! Highly recommend him to anyone in need of a quote :D

  7. I’ve seen they call it a Dutch auction, dropping the price until a buyer is found, which sounds pretty similar to how retail customers are found!

If a customer put a claim in, I have doubts they would ‘get away’ with it, but I imagine most would take them at their word that they have no rights and not bother trying, saving them a fair bit of hassle in the first place?

    Just my guess.

  8. Mainly answering calls and emails from people who think they can still pop down for a test drive and px valuation

I have taken a couple of deposits though.

Mobile mechanic is still working so he’s going in to sort a few jobs and mots which I’m hoping will help things along when they let us out to play again.
