  1. The high price indicator is deeply unpopular with most of the trade. Autotrader biting the hand that feeds them yet again.

If you can be arsed there is a complaint section on Autotrader. I shall be complaining and I know a few others have.

If a high enough percentage of dealers complain they may listen?

It has to be worth 5 mins of your time ladies and gents

  2. August I had a month free trial on CG. Just one lead in the month. I didn't take up the offer afterwards

Monday just gone I sold one off the free package! The only sale ever to come from a CG lead.

i questioned the lady as normally the email replies go into customer spam. She told me there was a notification from CG and she had to log in to read my reply.

  3. I use Payment Sense

    0.3% Debit

    0.7% Credit

    £15 per month wired terminal

    I wouldn't be without it

With my stock profile I have quite a few elderly customers who can not/wiil not do bank transfer

Preference is £200 deposit on card and bank transfer before/on collection

Would say dirty but i avoid it at all costs, due to the banking charges incurred when paying it in.

Don't bank it spend it. I use any cash taken to pay for tyres and other expenses.

Although it can take a while to get rid of sometimes!

  4. I think the forthcoming ban on DCI is a great thing. In theory this should create a more level playing field for us all.

Car Supermarkets with little or no chassis profit are earning upto 2k a car on finance commission. The only reason they earn huge amounts is by legging customers up with high rates of interest.

The supermarkets will have to alter their business model and return to earning something out the chassis.

This should help with auction prices...

The thought of looking out the window at your stock which is on the drip when the job is quiet still frightens me.

I'm with you. But we are old school.

The new way is to use debt because money is so cheap. Which is fine when the good times are rolling.

However I remember vividly the 2008 recession. Banks pulled the plug on lending almost overnight and it will happen again. The banks sent a good mate of mine down because he borrowed to the hilt. Outwardly he appeared to be a millionaire.

  7. I left school at 18 after A Levels. I should have gone to Uni but I was never committed enough to education.

Not knowing what to do as my father would not let me join the family business I worked for a bank for 10 years.

Loved banking to start with, great social scene as banks had lots of staff in those days. I took voluntary redundancy in 1997 as by that time it felt like working in a prison and the banks wanted hard sell of any products. I sold plenty of loans with PPI attached!

Joined the family business with my father(now retired) and been here ever since. Car trade is in my blood and always has been. But it's sooooo much harder to turn a good profit these days for many reasons

AAM90, just so you know that I'm not some sly creep like some I could name from this forum, I am telling you what I have just done.

Reported this thread to the admin, suggesting it's removed and that you are removed from the private forum. There is no need, whatsoever, to tell people from the public forum, what happens in the private forum, or else, what is the point in having the private forum? You're just feeding the curiosity of a mob, people who just want the "gossip" and if they could be bothered, could get access to the private forum and find out for themselves.

If you think I'm being out of order by saying this, you know my name, my website and my number. Call me and we can discuss it further or pop down and I'll make you a coffee.

    Apologies James

Guess I got carried away with the gossip

I have deleted post but it's too late now

What did you actually pay for car 1 excluding recon. I.e. hammer price + fees or private price (if not an auction car). Then subtract this from your gross selling price and use that figure to calculate VAT.

The PX is irrelevant and you need to calculate VAT margin on that in excatly the same way. What you sell it for less what you allowed for it when PX'd.

Recon cannot be included in margin scheme.

    Exactly this.

I hope the OP hasn't been including re con in the purchase price to calculate VAT? We get the VAT back on recon costs!

Honestly the worst thing anyone can do is follow Cap

    It's useful for part exchanges.

Using the VW part exchange facility(free for those that don't know) I give the punters a nice printout with the figures. Punters seem to go for it every time

Although I do cut the VW logo off the top first:rolleyes:

  11. It's a very odd market at the moment.

The general consensus is it's quiet out there(it is for me)

However if you need to replace stock it's a fortune to buy

The normal rules of supply and demand just don't seem to apply

Can't get my head around it really!

  12. 20min job to clear the scuttle. Take of wiper arms etc and completely remove the cover to get all the debris out.

The mutiplug in question is located under the carpet passenger side. There are about 50 wires and pins. If your lucky you will see a green pin which can be cleaned with contact cleaner.

If your unlucky like I once was the pins will be rotten. My auto electrician spent a good few hours soldering!

  13. Check it's not full of water under the passenger front carpet. Rots the multiplug pins

I've had a couple of Clio's do very strange things where water ingress in the multiplug is the cause.

The water ingress is caused by blocked scuttle drain. Crap design on a Clio and prone to blocking
