I used to be able to sell these, but seem to stick now. I’ve got a lovely 09 Cooper I’ve had months.

I was wondering about it the other day. Is it because they change shape so often? Not trendy now?

True, it does seem like they get a sharper facelift every 6 months

They have to be the best in 50 miles in my experience as when people come to view they always have several to see. Had loads of interest in my last one but with the amount of viewers I ended up taking a reasonable bid (£150 off, discounted for short MOT) just to see the back of it.

Yours sounds well advertised and right for owners etc ... try more photos, Mini owners are vain!

Got 20 odd photos and a video included, it's in reasonably good nick other than a tiny stone chip on the bonnet and a chip on the wind screen (repaired so cant see it that badly anymore), in dark silver with the black roof and black alloys so I would have thought it'd stand out nicely

  3. Evening all,

Had a 2005 mini cooper s for sale for a few weeks now and I'm just not getting anything. Had one offer through gumtree and that's it. It's on Facebook, gumtree, eBay and autotrader. It's about in the middle on price, 12 months MOT, 66k, 2 owners. Are they just tough to shift?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I've had this happen to me on an old truck I had, went in for a test and failed, spent the weekend fixing it only to have it stolen on the Sunday night before it was booked in for its retest on the Monday, which turned out to be the day the tax was due to come out of my account. Insurers said it was insured because it had a failed certificate, and my tax payment did go through.

    Hope that helps

No and they wouldn’t as they are told verbally and by email that the deposit is non refundable and is essentially my finders fee. If I find them the car and they change their mind i’ve done my bit.

We source cars quite often, its a £500 deposit upfront, and as long as the car is as described mileage spec and condition when it arrives, they pay the balance on collection.

we had one customer try to cancel without even viewing the car when it arrived. said she has bought elsewhere during the process, ok no problem we will keep the car for stock and we will keep your £500 deposit for the costs we have incurred.

never heard back from her again.

Okay so daft question, do you offer a warranty on the cars as you would your own stock or are they sold as seen?

  6. Great to see there's loads of fors and againsts.

The minute you mention payment they all go quiet. They seem to actually think you’re going to buy their ideal car for them to inspect and change their mind.

I offer it just as a service but before I even open an internet page to look I spell out that it’s a £250 deposit followed by full payment once we’ve agreed that’s the car for them. Anyone seriously looking for a specific car wouldn’t shirk at that.

Have you ever had anyone demand their deposit back after not following through?

  7. Has anyone had any luck with a decent key company in East Anglia?

Just looking at a lot of cars that only have one key at auction, heard horror stories of getting a new key at the main dealer costing £500+, surely there's got to be another way?

We were in the same boat, usually bought from BCA and not many other places.

Went and spoke to the accounts manager at our local Manheim and told them we buy 'X' amount per year from BCA and want more options. The account manager wavered the sign up fee, and put us straight up to the equivalent membership level we were on at BCA (had to show them the BCA card to prove that we were on that level - understandable)

Worth either popping in or giving them a call!

Might just give that a try, thanks for the advice

I agree with tradevet, the Midlands is the 'sweet spot'. Between Manheim and BCA there is a huge choice.

I'm based in Corby so there are some great public transport links to all the surrounding auctions, looks like I'll be spending alot more time on trains and buses

If you are in the Midlands you are fortunate to have a huge choice within 2 hours drive. We never got many from Peterborough. While not knowing what you sell,if it is older stuff for instance,as long as you have a good paintshop and workshop etc.....

Normally deal in the 2-5k cars at the moment, seem to be plenty there but just get priced out of any reasonable profit. Always happy to get my hands dirty fixing mechanical issues but body work is beyond me

Whether you do BCA or Manheim or any of the others, there is always plenty of stock about. If you are not an online buyer, you have to ‘get on your bike’ to get the stuff you want.It always amazes me when traders just rely on their local block and constantly complain. We used to drive late at night up and down the country every week to get the right stuff.Buying is a lot easier now than it was.

Great point, I only really ever go to the Peterborough site out of ease, guess I'm spreading my wings to Bedford and Nottingham now!

  11. Hi all,

I normally buy cars from BCA, but just keep getting outbid on most decent cars that don't need an arm and a legs worth of pre sale work doing to them.

Is Manheim worth the application fee? Or is it just another BCA scenario?

    Thanks

No, it sounds a small fortune to me but it’ll depend upon your age, driving convictions & postcode. However if you’re a 21 year old nutter with 15 points & live in a rough neighbourhood it’s a bloody bargain.

    Anyhow, welcome.

Thanks for the reply, I'm 26, clean licence, corby area. I think the main problem is I'm storing the cars at a separate residential address (basically my works address). I was quoted £1200 to keep them on my drive at home but there really isn't the space here.

  13. Hi all, new to the game and just starting out.

Just sorted out my trade insurance with the chaps from thinkinsurance, it cost £1877 (cars kept at premises, no engine restrictions, 5k max value, test drives covered & personal vehicle included)

Is that about right for a first timer?
