Another mental day at Aston barclay Chelmsford, and was totally mobbed by dealers.... however it did look like a little bit of normality returning to prices today.

I didn’t bother been mad the last few weeks. Very few cars going through again today.

  2. Hi Guys,

I have a 2005 Honda CRV 2.2 Diesel that is having its timing chain replaced but the mechanic can't remove 2 of the Injectors.

My question is does anybody know of a good mobile Hydraulic injector removal person that covers Essex.

I have phoned 2 companies advertised on the internet and they were absolutely useless.

    Any help would be great,

    Thanks Dean.

  3. Good luck Joe,

I started out 2 years ago with no previous car trading experience.

I spent 8 weeks just visiting the auction and hours researching the business and to be fair I still didn’t have an understanding of what it was really like.

What works for one trader doesn’t necessarily work for you, network with as many people as you can and learn to live the job. I work more hours now than I have ever done.

I was in a fortunate position that I didn’t need to earn a fortune to live. If I am honest, if I did I probably wouldn’t still be doing it now.  This is not to say I don’t think the rewards are achievable because they certainly are, but you have to find your niche.

2 years later and I am making money - ( Just ) and have a little more knowledge, but for instance I brought a crap car this week from auction that has a major fault that will wipe half of my profit for this month. It is inevitable that this will happen to you at some point.

Any experience you can gain in a dealer I’d good but running your own business is totally different. Definitely buy the download and read it, you will pick up useful info I am sure.

    anyway, best of luck,

Be prepared for a lot of hard work and become as mentally tough as you can,  dealing with retail customers is hard, they all think you are dodgy and trying to have them over, but in my limited experience they are the dodgy one ha ha.

    Regards Dean.

No it isn't. It really, really isn't.

    Exactly this,

To be fair it’s nobody’s fault but yours for paying to much for cars. Do your reasearch on the cars you are loooking to buy before you get to the auction and have a fixed amount you are willing to pay. You know how much your fees are so do the maths.

I understand it’s easy to get caught out with unexpected costs but you are in control of the intitial purchase price....

Anyway, best of luck and listen to the guys on here...

Hi to all, thought I would take 5 and introduce myself, I'm John (48), live in the Southwest (Torbay) and brand spanking new to car dealing, I've been involved in the tree surgery business for many years running my own business for approx 15yrs, also I'm a retained firefighter of which I'm contracted to 63hrs a week, its always been an ambition for me to be involved in the used car business, sure alot of you who have been involved in the business would say keep clear, I would say the same about tree work but if you don't try you'll never know!, like most things they always look easier from the outside looking in.

I spent most of Christmas and New Year reading up on posts on this site, thanks to everyone who contributes, really helpful information, my local auctions are BCA Bridgewater and Manheim Plymouth, managed to do a couple of dry runs to BCA to suss things out, couldn't put things off any longer so bought a tidy Peugeot, didn't need much other than a good tidy, sold it 2 weeks later with not a bad profit (bought for £1200, sold for £1850), last week came back with a 1 series BMW, after all I had read up not entirely sure why I bought it!?!, I think just got caught up in the auction banter, I will keep you posted on how it works out, with the MOT tomorrow you may never her from me again :).

I've been offered a small frontage probably get around 6-8 cars on and its on a main road, cost is minimal so I think a bit of a no brainer, if I had a bit more experience / confidence in the trade then decisions would be alot easier, next visit to BCA tomorrow, currently on a Silver card but negotiating Gold to reduce fees, bit of a kick in the teeth these are!

So that's a brief introduction and where I am at the moment, thanks again for all who take time out and contribute, for us neewbies this information is really helpful.

    Cheers

    John

    Welcome & good luck....

Dean, I have used this stuff with some success. Add it on the damaged area and it reacts with the glue.. mop and polish the area thereafter as its likely to lift any impurities from the paint and brighten up just that spot! Worth having in stock if you have super glue for any other jobs.. like sticking fingers together!

    Glue debonder

You can get Acetone from a chemist, its nail polish remover by any other name.. keep by the PC screen for sniffing when reading "unreal" threads...

Ha ha, thanks for your reply, I will raid my wife’s draw to see what I can find....

  7. What a bugger, it’s a lovely little car as well.

    superglue no chance

these windows are on recall at peugeot by the way

Thanks for info, I have googled superglue removal and I think it needs to be an acetone, would this remove the surrounding paint as well ?.....

  8. Morning all,

Just a note to ask if any of you guys have successfully removed superglue from a Cars paintwork without damaging the paintwork.

Brought a Pug 107 and someone has stuck the window back in with superglue and it has run down the rear door.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    regards Dean.

We should have told you Dean.To do this job successfully you have to eat and sleep cars and all the problems all day every day.I now only go in for 30 mins or so per day but I am still constantly trying to think of better ways of doing the job.I used to keep a pen and notepad by the bed incase I thought of something during the night.

I think starting and running a some sort of charity would be a good idea today, next time someone knocks on your door wanting money for a good cause, check them out on Charities Commission.A lot of them have directors earning big money for doing very little I imagine.

    Thanks Ian,

To be fair Tradex did after my first post on here, ha ha

  10. There is definitely no perfect career, I left a very good Job and started trading cars a couple of years ago to get a better work life balance....

The reality is I am actually working more hours at 50 years old than I ever have, but I love it.... (most of the time)

For me, we all know the recipe for success and it would be easily achievable if the stock required was readily available, but it isn’t and that’s that.

I look at some of the guys on here and it gives me the push I need sometimes to say success is achievable and it’s up me to do it.

Yeah I thought that too. Loads of new faces. Yeah I normally go twice during the week. I was collecting a car yesterday but kept an eye on the hall, had to laugh at a few going for retail and above!

Think I will try during the week...

    cheers,

I was also at bca Enfield yesterday. As nick says it’s pretty normal. However the prices were stupid yesterday!

I agree, prices were mad, I wondered if it was because it was a Saturday and loads of private’s. Do you go other days .?
