I cannot find my login so this looks like my very first post! Ive used the forum before and it has been very helpful! I have a customer who i believe is being unreasonable. He bought a 1990 bmw with 197,000 miles on the clock and is complaining to me about the following: - Coolant level sender being broken - The revs drop just below idle when you just rev the car. He says this is due to spark plugs, air filter and service being due along with the throttle body needing a clean. He bought the without seeing it, on the phone and had it delivered. There was huge demand for it because it was very cheap and the bodywork is spotless. He is now saying that i need to pay him £317 to pay for new spark plugs, air filter, cleaning throttle body, adjusting idle and the coolant sender, I think this is astronomical considering the car was £2000! I offered to pay £97 for the coolant sender but i told him i'm not prepared to pay for a service. the car wasn't sold with any indication of it being recently serviced. He is repeatedly sending me text messages with 'i suggest you send me the money otherwise ill go to small claims court' which i feel like he is trying to bully me into it. (fool) I have offered £97 and he has declined. Do you think i should let him take this to small claims court? As of today he is also claiming that it has an oil leak. but its just oil 'sweat' which doesnt really drop it has been under-sealed so it all looks greasy! Thanks in advance!

We recently sold a 10 year old £1600 VW Polo to a buyer. Since buying, a couple things have happened.... 1: They complained about exhaust being loud - dont know if anyone knows these cars but people change the first section with an aftermarket one (not performance) which deletes 1 silencer. this makes it louder. This was done before it came into our ownership and there is nothing wrong with the exhaust. 2: Battery drained (as far as i understand this is a consumable so we as a business are not liable - correct me if i am wrong) 3: They replaced the battery to find out the alternator has broken. We have now arranged for a mobile mechanic to come to them and replace this. 4: Buyer has found that there has been a small knock on the car sometime in its life. This has damaged one of the headlight mounts and the radiator mount. We were not aware of this and we did not at any point say to the customer categorically that the car has not been in an accident. We had no way of knowing this and to avoid problems like this we always sell cars with 12 months MOT. From what I understand the MOT means that the car is roadworthy and fit for purpose. Can they hold us liable for previous damage which we were not aware of and didnt come up in our inspections? Due to age and value of vehicle it was sold as seen without any warranty, the buyer viewed it twice - once when deciding to purchase and leave deposit the second when collecting. From what i understand we need to replace the alternator but they cannot hold us liable for any bodge repairs from knocks. Any help is very much appreciated

Hi folks, Wondered if I could pick your brains on a issue with my van. It's a 2012 vw caddy maxi c20 that's a 1.6 diesel with a DSG gearbox. For quite some time now the vehicle has what I can only describe as an intermittent problem. Every so often, like maybe a 2 or 3 times a month, suddenly while driving the tone of the engine changes, a deeper tone. The vehicle also appears slightly less smooth/sluggish between gear changes. A smell that is quite pungent enters the cabin, maybe a bit like oil burning or like somethings hot. And also sometimes while its entered this state it will do a jumping/juddering when reversing and sometimes when crawling at a busy roundabout, when you edge forward (maybe a little bit heavy footed) you hear the most disturbing noise of all which sounds like, some kind of belt slipping or something. Very strange. I've tried to describe this as best as I can. I guess that's what intermittent problems are like. But then for 95-98% of the time the van is absolutely normal... Has any one got any ideas. Very much appreciate your comments Nathan
