Thanks for uploading another podcast. I’ve always thought Jamie came across as a good guy. I just hope he gets to keep hold of some of the money this time ;)

I take my hat off to him, the way he has come back is an inspiration, just goes to show in this trade even if it all goes tits up if you’ve got the right mindset you can come back stronger and better.

  6. Big thank you to Jamie from Car Quay Derby for this weeks podcast, another really inspiring chat, he's been in the motor trade for over 20 years and owned a car supermarket up until 2017, unfortunately it went tits up and he started all over again, in his own words "with 10 snotters" and has now built the business up to 150 cars. We'll be talking about how he has built it back up, a day in the life of Jamie and loads of great trader talk.

  9. Big thank you to Ian from Trade Cars of York. A good friend of mine who up until Covid had a really successful wedding and event planning business, unfortunately the tap had been turned off for him and his business partner so they needed to start earning some cash. They've set up a used car business in their local town of York and today we're talking about how it's been going so far!

Well done David, you did well to get a word in.Unbelievable, he should be doing infomercials on shopping channels.I didn’t think Close employed fast talking guys like that.I like Close but I am afraid if I was still trading that guy would not get near our front door.

Haha that tickled me! he's a good though guy Ben, on call 24/7 and really helpful!

  12. We had our Close Brothers Finance area manager down at our pitch last week, we done a podcast about how to get set up to sell finance and using a stocking facility.

Some really helpful advice in this podcast if you’re just starting out and wanting to do finance but didn’t know how to get started and also if you’ve ever thought of taking on a stocking loan, there’s lots of great info!

    Thanks

  13. Here we go, this weeks Podcast!

This is a chap I met at the auction, I don't actually know the exact term for his job description but he would bid on cars for traders that couldn't make it to the auction and he would get £50 a car.

Before he done that he was an auctioneer for Manheim for 9 years, then went self employed and has now returned as an auctioneer for the last 3 years.

Lots of stories we can all relate to from the characters at the block to one vendor making a massive loss, hope you enjoy!

    David

    Up next Hopefully Mr Horgan

  14. I administer them myself, I normally buy 100 booklets a time and they are great if customers just want our compIimentary warranty (normally 1 - 3 months ) I can’t remember exactly how much but I think it’s around £300 for 100 booklets so well worth the money.

I up sell the warrantywise 12 month warranty,  when a customer leaves a deposit I’ll give them a leaflet to ponder on it, I offer them it at cost price, if it costs the customer £120 for 12 months they know they are getting a really good deal, if they were at a main dealers it would be double.

Like probably most people in lockdown at the minute, I'm looking at changing a few things when we eventually get back to trading again. I know this subject has been discussed a few times on here but I'm seriously now thinking about using an in house warranty. At the moment we put a 3 month underwritten warranty and try and sell up to a 12 month, not very successfully I may add. As we all know half the time we end having to pay for repairs ourself as they are not covered when the claim goes in. I've just totted up how much I've paid out to said warranty company in the last 12 months and I know who's in profit!! So who are the main players in this field, the only one I been offered is Black Star warranties but it was last year when the rep called in and I can't remember the ins and out. Happy to put say a £100 a unit into a pot and see how it goes. Any pointers would be appreciated.

I always self warrant, might be worth having a listen to this there’s plenty of chat about warranties on this podcast we done the other day with nick from small cars direct
