  1. This might be a daft question but if I have a vehicle that is currently in trade under my company name and I am selling it within trade to another trader, is there a way of doing this online?

Previously you just used to hand the V5 over with a receipt as there was no proper system or records.

However on DVLA online site under 'Tell DVLA you have sold, transferred or bought a vehicle' there doesn't seem to be an option to actually transfer within trade.

The only options are to either 'buy a vehicle into trade' but its already in trade, or 'sell a vehicle out of trade' which doesn't achieve anything either.

    What do others do?

    Advice appreciated.

  2. I had this before exactly the same and it turned out that 2 totally different cars were being updated under the same VIN because they were using current registration and a previous registration that was now on a totally different car.

Took some delving but HPI got it removed in the end.

Out of interest how did you get it resolved? Did the DVLA update HPi once you contacted them?

I phoned DVLA with the customer present and asked them to confirm the most recent issue date which was the same as the V5.

  4. I have had this several times.

DVLA have simply not updated HPI of the most recent new document date.

Not helpful especially when customer cannot speak to DVLA.

The most recent V5 issue date used to show when you do a DVLA vehicle check but it does not seem to provide it any more.

Where on earth does it say you can get pulled for using trade plates after 6pm? What’s the earliest time you can use them in a morning? I really do despair sometimes, if they are being used for a trade purpose then it doesn’t matter whether it’s 1 o clock, 6 o clock or 12 o clock you are legal. If you get a pull and say something idiotic like oh I’m just picking the wife / kids / dog / budgie up then yes you will get a b0llocking or a fine. PS I am sure the police don’t have to wait until 6pm to give you a tug!

Never heard of that either :)

  6. I had the same problem where I used to get charged 22 pence per debit card transaction.

They then changed it to 0.23% per debit card which was a lot more in fees.

I went to the trouble of checking every merchant provider and finally finding one that charged 0.25% per card but capped at 0.88 pence.

I left the old provider, moved to the new one and 3 months later they changed the terms again and said they could not do the cap at 0.88 pence any more.

When I challenged it they said I could move to another provider if I wanted without any notice fees (very helpful!)

So I ended up in a worse position after spending a lot of time moving and filling in application forms.

To my knowledge, no one is offering a fixed or capped price now for debit cards.

Sell a car for £15K and its nearly £40 to accept a debit card.

If anybody has found a provider with more favourable terms I would also be interested to know.

    So.

Had as long discussion yesterday with a chap who had the following story:

He bought a new MPV a year ago (not from us). His wife has a small runaround that came in for an MOT and failed, spectacularly. Car's worth £500 in good nick, but needs £1200 worth of work (welding, brakes all round, exhaust etc). He decides that he needs to scrap the little 'un and trade in the MPV for 2 cars.

    Looking good so far...

It didn't matter what I told him, his actual, honest belief is that the small car is now technically a CAT D writeoff and he can claim for that on his insurance...

...and the thumping loss he's going to make on the MPV will be covered by the GAP insurance policy he took out, so he can get back what he paid for it.

I suggested he got his claims in and came back to me when he had all the funds in place.

    Priceless :)

    Hello guys,

Greetings! Hope everyone here doing great so far. I am new member into this community. I am going to buy a new car for myself. So I need your help to choose the best one.

    Thanks for your time!

Can there not be some kind of trade status check to stop Joe Public signing up?

Even a copy of motor trade insurance would be a starting point!

  10. No problem.

I am still struggling to find the tax cost.

When I click the 'TAX' tab it tells me what date the vehicle is taxed until but clicking that doesnt seem to do anything.

The number of previous owners is available DVLA information as is the date of last keeper change but is not available on any DVLA information.

The only way of getting it that I have worked out is eBay will tell you the number of previous owners if you enter the reg number as if you are selling the vehicle.

Cazana give date of change of keeper.

Both of the above are obviously available if you do an HPI check but you dont always want to do that straight away.

With those 2 pieces of information plus what you have already it will be a very useful little app.

    Nice work.

  11. Hi Tom.

    Nice looking app.

You say that it will display tax band and tax cost?

    I cannot see this.

I can see the graph which is a good idea as you can see at a glance if there is any irregularity.

I can see where it staes when the vehicle is taxed until.

Also, the history function could be useful rather than entering it all again.

2 very useful features for me would be number of previous owners and date of last owner change.

    Many thanks.

  12. Here Here!

Its ridiculous that the manufacturers have not overcome this issue.

With such large gaps too between servicing, it makes it even easier for them.

Surely it cant be that difficult to make a car with a tamperproof mileage?

And if you're not meant to display trade plates inside the vehicle and now not over the original vehicle number plates, how exactly are you meant to display them ?

    Fair point!

They clearly cannot make their mind up.

I purchased a new set of trade plate holders about a month ago that cover the plate and work very well.

    Now these are obsolete already.

  14. I have used HSBC for years and only ever had one payment that didnt go straight through but a quick phone call sorted it immediately.

If a payment is delayed coming in it is always on the part of the buyers bank so is out of HSBC's control.

Is it a business account you have with HSBC or a personal account?

I also use the app or internet banking to make my transfers and it is simple as can be. I think all the main banks subscribe to faster payments now.

HSBC costs £5.50 a month but all internet transactions are free and faster payment limit up to £250,000 so should cover most cars you want to buy :)
