  1. According to the law you can and may charge a usage charge,we have it on our invoices right at the top say If Applicable "THE USAGE CHARGE OR CAR HIRE WOULD BE  £........

PER DAY.                   SIGNED........................... The have to have a good reason to reject not because they don't fancy it any more or want to drive for free.It works saved us a few times.Best of luck

  2. We have recently had the need to try and claim on BCA assured scheme only to find out that it covers almost nothing, they have reworded the policy so that before it was a safety net for BCAs customers so they would bid a bit more to a good earn for BCA for example gearbox STATIC check ???????? Noise in engine bay now just pully belts i have the list here

Old Wording (pre 11th January 2019)

New Wording (11th Jan 2019 on)

Oil contamination Oil / coolant contamination
Engine bay noise Aux belt / pulley noise
    Brake test Brake efficiency test
Clutch / autodrive take up Clutch slipping (static test)
    Steering Steering Noise
Suspension noise / ride height Suspension ride height
Aircon (excl. temp and gassing) Aircon receives power (ex. gassing)
Sat nav operates (excl. functionality) S-Nav receives power (ex.functionality)
ICE operates (excl. functionality) ICE receives power (ex.functionality)
Roof Electrics Convertible / sunroof electrics

I particularly like  the clutch slipping static test ,Aircon s nav ICE to JUST receiving power and suspension.

Justin must be a nice guy,I would probably cancel their warranty because of improper use and tell them you are not running a lending library !

The Kid is terminally thick best off without him in your life.

  4. If the customer has put 5k on the car in 2 months it is unreasonable for him to expect to drive for free, you can charge him a usage charge.Get the car back in and have it checked out,it has to be a fundamental problem.you know what they say 'Their is no worst liar than a used car buyer" get the car back in and take control of the situation .

We have 2 sites one on a main road and one on a trading estate, they both have 60 used cars, they are both authorised repairer status with manufacturers, one does ok off Autotrader, they both do about the same with motors. I’ve cancelled AT for one and cancelled Motors for the other. Both sites are long established and have advertised with both for years. We’ve cancelled motors for the main road site and AT for the other. I’ve put a challenge to both AT and Motors, measure sales for three months and compare the results against numbers sold historically, I believe we can then gauge the value for both, Motors are keen and up for it, no reply yet from Autotrader. I’m doing it anyway as on the non main road site we’ve only sold 10 this month with only 2 from AT at a cost of £1600 per month. The price of AT was going up in April and it made me think what have I got to lose, I really believe people do multiple searches and often forget which site they saw the car on. This is not an attempt to beat up Autotrader or Motors it’s purely an exercise to see how many we sell at each site with only making one change. I know last years not this year but it’s the only transparent way of gagueing value for money. If I get negative feedback I won’t bother posting the results, if you’re genuinely interest I’ll post the results monthly. Good luck to all in these tough times.  Arthur Thicken, driving the prices down.....

    Go for it Arthur!

  6. AUTORAPER is what they should be called, back in 2012-2013 my friend and i started the "THE MOTOR TRADERS ADVERTISING UNION" I started this because at that time they were trying to get it to £15 per car per week,we beat them and the prise increase was canceled  and only a moderate rise was implemented, this is a cruel and unnecessary rise,in our area (Bristol) garages are shutting down,4 so far this month,if you are with auto trader its about being the cheapest and they advertise on you pages finance shutting down another of our revenue streams, a race to the bottom i call it.I WILL be starting this up again but i am not going to pay for it all AGAIN the last time it cost my friend and I .If you car dealers want to start a sustained attack plenty of bad press for Autotrader join, we need to stick together the last time our membership was up to over a 1000,Car Dealer Magazine took up the story and so did the Times i only stopped last time as i had a personal tragedy,Iam back on my feet and ready to do this again, if any of you want to join please send your Details to email avg@avg123 "ITS TO EASY TO DO NOTHING AND THEN MOAN"My stats for last month for leads were 2800ish google leads 700ish direct to my website about 90ish auto trader gumtree about 80 ish FOR FRACTION OF THE COST OF AUTOTRADER then ebay then aa.

    DON'T MOAN LETS STICK TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Just thinking it would be a fantastic idea it would be if the public could only buy cars off a licensed garage,it would give the customers peace of mind because they know the garages would have to work to a certain standard and it would stop the black economy car dealer skipping tax and VAT selling cars off pay as you go mobile phones and not giving warrantys, near our garage there is a roundabout with a car park next to it,with loads of cars for sale all with pay as you go mobile numbers,in the last six months we have had loads of people come to see us asking who sells the cars at the roundabout because the cars they have bought have serious problems write-offs etc. This is a area the government are not tackling at all.If this happened we could keep our  margins in tact rather trying to compete on a playing field that favours the crooks i.e. auto traders average prices brought down by scumbags selling rubbish at knockdown prices and when your customer comes in a try to negotiate a deal using some heap of scrap as a comparison, they are only looking at the bottom line. Your thoughts?

You can cover yourself as much as you like, but if you get to a small claims court, the bottom line is,judges don’t like car dealers .

If you do everything by the book, don't be scared to go to court,I've been a few times not lost one and the look on the punters face is priceless.

I sold a car about 2 weeks ago, the guy came and looked at it, test drove etc. We agreed a PX price for his car and he left a deposit as he needed to get the private plate off his first.

I called him about a week later as I hadn't heard from him and he tells me he's now in Scotland as he had to go up and look after a poorly family member. Tells me he will be back some time in January and I can either refund his deposit or keep the car for him until then.

I told him that's not possible to keep the car that long. The deposit was £500 and he said to send some of his deposit back but not sure on how much (if any).

I then got an email last night saying he will be back on the 14th Feb and if I can't keep it until then, he wants his deposit back.

What would you guys do? I don't believe for one minute he's just gone up to Scotland for nearly 3 months and his biggest concern is his deposit.

Not the old sick family member routine? Be nice but firm and explain he has entered into a contract and if your deposit forms say deposit NON refundable car to be picked up in x days, the ball is in his court wait for the date to come and go then readvertise the car no more contact needed.
