Facebook presence

Recommended Posts

Morning All,

Despite eye watering auction prices and still getting my head around prep standards (after being prestige main dealer for the last 10 years) I have had a good start to my new venture. Wish I had done it years ago.

Just wondering if anyone out there uses Facebook much? I have an account which I stopped using about 8 years ago just because I was tired of the bullshit on there. However I am wondering if it is worth reactivating the account for business use, I am assuming that very little actual sales traffic will come out of it? But wondered if anyone found it useful just as a presence for their business?

its a very marmite subject, as in most advertising it needs a lot of trial and error tweaking to see any rewards, opening an account sticking a car on and hoping for the best will get you no where.

Have a look close to you see who is popping up daily check there comments pictures ect see how other people are doing it.

I'm personally sick to the back teeth of face book " is this negotiable ?" NO  Whats your best price , £200 more than screen " I've got 2k max for this " its bloody £4,000 you idiot is my reply to that " Can i see this after 10pm  " yes on the web site  they are viewable 24/7 mate   , i want 6k for my px , its scrap mate and books at 4k , go away .

That's my experience anyway , others may well have more success , depends on stock profile i think as we never get a response on our more up mkt stock only the cheaper end or px to clear stuff .

That is pretty unanimous then. Thanks for the feedback. I find it pretty poisonous anyway so I won’t dip my toe back in and save my time for more productive methods.

You could try for yourself nothing better than selling a car costing only £20 for a local boost, with the app on your phone it takes nano seconds to ignore or engage with a customer.

All my cars go on FB marketplace, I would say we sell 1-3 max proper retail cars a month, but who cares, it's free and I answer every enquiry.

It's amazing for selling the sub £1k bangers SUPER QUICKLY. I mean if you stuck a 200k passat or octavia on you would get about 25 enquires within an hour.

So yes personally I like it, yesterday I retailed a £3990 Ibiza through on FB marketplace, sold within 24 hours to a lovely local couple. So why would I ever pull the ads?

Lots of cars sell through our facebook page and marketplace. Its taken years to get it to that point.  Right now I would have a page but not expect to be selling from it.

It's free for trade? It's certainly free for private sales.

When I tried it it cost us something like £20......that song of Taylor Swift comes to mind with lots of add9 chords:D

facebook, Its become a good buying tool, some of the closed group trade pages are now very good, plenty of the ex autotrademail lads on there, the high volume of trade buyers is the problem, you do have to be super quick when an ad goes live.

regards selling, i don't know regards cheaper stuff, but some of the specific brand group pages definitely work for lumpy stuff like tvr and porsche.

Really ???????????????????????

I tried that recently with a nice but leggy old Merc C Class, thought that would be bang up their alley, all I got was potless dreamer fucktards :(

In the end I sold it to a local guy to break, got more than advertised on FB, he was asking if I had an engine for his Vito, that Car had same OM646 CDI in it as the Vito, so I worked the whole car into him to take the motor out of :D

don't know about breaker mercs dave, but iv'e had solid results from some group / club pages, a red rose tuscan swiftly away at 18k, and a 996turbo away to a proper buyer at 35k, cost of ads - zero.

That's great, guess it must be a location thing, just doesn't work for me ;)

First ever car I put on there some guy rang around midday, (remember I am NW Highlands near Skye), was a nice E Class Coupe, he asked all the usual shit sounded like a Tyre Kicker but wtf ..........

He then said "I'll be round this afternoon" ......................

Yep, he was in NW London, a mere 600 + miles away :lol::lol:

As a purveyor of £1-6K cars I see allsorts via FB (I do not do any of the social media shite - no friends, no comments, not even a single photo, I just use it for free advertising uploaded from CD5).

I’ve found the dreamers on FB are no worse than any other advertising site & as with any arsehole email you are not obliged to answer. As is the norm what soon happens is customers call, messers email. THERE ARE PLENTY OF NORMAL PUNTERS ON THERE WHO ARE PREPARED TO PAY THE ADVERTISED PRICE.

I’ve found there really is no particular pattern, I sell a few at both my lower & upper ends courtesy of FB. If you get any mega mileage p/x German shite you’ll be inundated with Eastern European tossers, but I choose to just ignore many of them.

I hate social media but anyone who says they can’t sell a car via one of the biggest sites in the world is clearly doing something wrong.

Exactly, I know a few lads who ‘specialise’ in such deathtraps & they move plenty of metal for peanut wages - uncleaned, uninspected, Coronavirus MOT extensions etc. My take on this is because FB is full of this sort of shite anything even halfway decent with an advertisement written by someone who can string together a sentence stands out a mile.

IMO Facebook is a magnet for illiterate morons and we no longer use it.  Good for dumping scrap to Eastern Europeans. Presumably a lot of it gets shipped back in bits to Poland or wherever.  I remember once selling a Passat to a Polish guy via Facebook. It was a 300k'er. He said he was going to convert it to LHD and take it back to Poland!!!
