Isn't that exactly how it was prior to the current system.

No, they never used to have the high price marker

Chris Penny said they were coming off on Car dealer page recently.

Not seen that ?? would be the best move @Rory RSC  asThe IMDA asked for them to be removed totally but they were adamant in keeping it and we keep battling on with it, another meeting next week will keep everyone posted of the outcome.!

Surely the price markers will drive down market prices in a spiral? Dealers lower prices to get to market valuation and so the average price continues to fall, so dealers lose prices, etc.?

(though hopefully not all would engage in such madness though I’m sure many will).

Thus margins lower and companies go out of business decreasing Autotraders client base (as dealers pay their wages, not buyers).

At best they are making AT a less attractive option than EBay, FB, etc?

sold 7 this week, 4 of which had high price on them, customers dont mention them on the whole and dont haggle at all nowadays, seem to sell them quicker when they do have a good or great price tag though and punters happy to pay screen price when I point them out

I try to not sell anything higher than fair. Which is yellow. I have sold a couple on high price but they are normally with really stunning alloys or white in colour as white seems To command much more money in Essex. Especially in Audi TTs or a nice c class.

It can’t drive prices down if cap prices are expensive! You’ll be selling stuff for what you pay for it otherwise.   Auto trader prices are about £700 too cheap at the minute. Rediculous Price gap between cap and auto trader

The new price indicators are border line criminal,

Autotrader could not develop software to value owners, so that part of the valuation was binned,

Autotrader could not develop software to value service history, so that part of the valuation was binned,

Autotrader could not develop software to value colour desirability, so that part of the valuation was binned,

Autotrader could not develop software to value spec, so that part of the valuation was binned, (although i do believe there is a pathetic attempt currently ongoing, Current ratio of £10,000 spec adjusts value by £200.

Yet the "masterclasses" educate dealers that these are the very things customers look for

The High price indicator is also in Red/Amber which was previously used for CAT C, Incase a customer struggles to read HIGH PRICE, we have a speedometer/graph with high price revving off the scale, and if that is not enough of a deterrent, a baseless calculation has also taken place providing a figure to the pound of how much the customer would be paying above "market value", in some cases upto £2987.

Absolutely no information anywhere to suggest where these figures are coming from as the Autotrader does not have one advertised £2987 cheaper, so a market only Autotrader have which is not on their own platform, (imaginary).

Dealers who sell standard vehicles wont have much trouble with the new system, Dealers with specialist stock have major issues,

Which dealer would price they vehicle above market? Does that make any sense, the first to suffer would be the dealer, The vehicle would not sell, Simple.

Pricing vehicles is what dealers do, its part of the job, if we feel a vehicle is worth more we clearly have a basis for that, if we get it wrong it dont sell,

Autotrader have really made a huge mistake with this one, It will cost them heavily as many dealers are now making it a priority to move away, and it will happen for sure,

There must be a case to make with the Office of Fair Trading against Autotrader if a vehicle has been purchased as "Great Price" if that vehicle has 10+ owners,  A Service Mystery, a list of mot advisories,  beige in colour with wind down windows, a rear view mirror for parking sensors and 4 different wheel trims on it and  pictured in a backstreet, How does Great relate to this? The system is to offer customers more transparency, lol

Good post with good points many will agree with, we do high spec stuff and just feel they are taking the P.

Have dropped number we have with them from 46 and halved it, told rep we can’t find enough cars at the ‘right price’.

I cannot imagine this sort of thing would happen in any other trade it’s just ridiculous.

Just thinking aloud here; what are AT actually gaining by undervaluing cars? I've just added an older Golf to my stock list, AT have put it £400-odd behind CAP retail, I've added the leather interior option which AT tells me was £1700 new and the price has increased by £143, so still well behind CAP retail.

So over the last 6 months we have noticed that we are getting much more sales from car gurus.

decemeber and jan car gurus are almost at 50/50 with auto trader now.

has anyone else noticed a large increase in good quality leads from car gurus? I seem to be getting much younger people coming through car gurus.

our last 4 sales have all been gurus also. Tide is turning?

Some would argue CAP is way behind too. As we all know it's difficult to source anything decent in for CC atm.

Much more quality leads coming through Car Gurus, compared to the big AT.

Hopefully tides a changing for at least long enough for AT to take a look when the market share they have starts reducing...

But better late than never hopefully.

Looking forward to update from Umesh!

Can i urge everyone who has a package with autotrader plus their website to at least move their website away to someone like car dealer 5 or anyone else, and to tell rhem its about standing up to AT indicators, their websites are way to expensive anyway,at least you wont have indicators over your website too,we all need to do something and quickly too the only time they will listen is if we hurt their revenue.

I had AT on the phone again for 45 mins this morning regarding this subject of price markers .

I have a car that's one of only a very few for sale , AT say i should sell at £17,303 retail to get a good marker I'm at £19,995 because of the extras fitted and condition of the car , this price was worked out by looking at retail prices , how long each garage had the car in stock , extras fitted against competitors . I still think I'm £500 less than where I should be too .

My car is priced HIGH , They actually told me they take the prices of cars for sale times that by the number of cars  and divide by same number  for an average price , Bloody twats .

While I'm talking to him I get an enquiry via my web site number , Guy searching on GOOGLE for that type of car , saw our web site and rang . NO Markers on Google , none on our web site and the result is its sold this morning after he popped down to see us  , PX is a great car , with 12 k on finance to add to the deal , Collects Sat Morning .

Asked him why he searches google and he says AT are to complicated now to use , He cant re Find the cars he looked at anymore , Doesn't understand the low , high , relevant pricing , the price markers confuse him somewhat as the low markers make him mistrust the dealer , High markers get in his head too much and he cant bring himself to ring them , cant find a car he's looking for with a GOOD marker on it ,

Just makes you wonder doesn't it at what level of pricing the same attitude of this guy becomes a problem for us all on AT and car Guru .

Really frustrating how Autotrader have no answers when it comes to these price indicators, The same question is constantly asked in the webinars and is brushed off with no real answer explanation,
