Recommended Posts

Can you help?

Am delivering car to new owner untaxed, and customer wants to transfer cherished number plate,

I can't do it all in one go can I?

ie transferring and taxing in one go.

Unfortunately not. Quickest way to do it is tax and register the car in customers name, wait for V5 to arrive and get customer to retain their plate online, then use the retention ref. To put on to the car (which is now in your customers name). Takes about 3-4 working days. Only down side is you have to wait for the V5 to arrive for the part ex.

Simple answer, no.

You need them to tax it and complete change if keeper online.  3-4 days later when the new V5 arrives they can assign the plate instantly online. (Never guarantee this as some cars do get flagged that blocks plate transfers online)

You could put the “cherished plate” on a retention certificate about £180 from memory. Only if it has mot. They’ll reassign a age related plate to the car. You send them the v5. Cheaper probably
