A bit of feedback on my own ads please

Recommended Posts

Can I finally get a bit of feedback on my own ads please, I am looking for stuff that annoys and confuses or especially stuff that you want to see and it's missing. Be as blunt as you wish of course.

I know my video quality is not great but I have videos on each ad anyway, will work towards improving them a lot in the next year. Shot with my iphone at the moment.

Pictures are excellent, the only thing I pick up on is that they are photographed in 2 different locations but that’s just me.

Video is not great, I got sent a video guide by autotrader and it helped my own videos greatly if you want me to forward it on.

@Nick M.K. Music & silent movies are a NO - NO ! as far as I'm concerned. Need to voice them over, It really is easy, none of like our voices played back but just remember when customers call you or speak to you face to face thats what they hear, so a voice over will make a connection and they recognise your voice on the video, builds trust.

I'm a tickler for 'exact mileage' its one of my 'OCD' No car , or very rarely is it 30,000 exact ( had the odd one or two on exact, think it looks better with actual' and a photo of the mileage/ speedo. ! otherwise all good sir!

Thank you Umesh, you know I am all for getting in the highest possible number of searches (including price rounding sometimes but not here) and this one would get missed by some people for the sake of less than 200-odd miles.

Do you see this as a negative James? On some other adverts I will have 4 locations including a different one for video. I'll go to one location, take 20 photos, struggle a bit with the light, drive a mile to the next, take 50 more, then looking at the computer some of the first 20 were not so bad and will get used.

Nik, I think you great always have done :)

I'm really pleased you have embraced videos, I appreciate your former reluctance and I know I've nagged you to do em but they make your job a lot easier and really do help you sell cars :)

My first impression of the video, its impersonal with annoying lift music. Get rid of the music, sell yourself and the car, talk to your customer as you walk around it. You are a great car dealer, who does his job right, you need to be saying that in the video. I keep saying the same things here "people buy from people" don't doubt your ability to sell by video, its a fantastic medium. Personalise it....

The mini tyres desperately needed dressing as did the black plastic arch trims. Oh and the passenger door needed touching in on its edge, but that's me just being pedantic.... I'm a bugger for not valeting to the max (don't have the time) but I do own up about it in the video...

Add an introduction to the video explaining who you are, how you operate and the benefit in buying from you....

I should've mentioned that I often take the photos before most of the prep is complete when the weather / light is good. The car had a valet after these photos and the the dent devil gave it the once over. MOT still to be done but we have looked at the car on a ramp and expect no advisories.

Why would you take photos before you've done the prep properly ?

I am going to offend everyone now, except you.

Your pictures are always the best I have ever seen anywhere.

Personally, your write up bores me.  Because of AT’s lack of formatting it just looks like a mass of specs all clumped together in sentences which IMO should be paragraphed.

Your videos are poor but only because there is no narrative.  I hate mine too but mainly because I don’t like my own voice and I do have a slight Midlands/Black Country accent (others will think it is  strong but it isn’t).

That said, I genuinely hold you in the highest regard - I think your work ethic is second to none and if you’re not a millionaire already you soon will be. I have never heard anyone talk so much sense, analyse data, exploit every opportunity quite as much as you.  I am not sure if that is your culture or whether you feel you need to work harder than the next person who was born and raised in the UK or whether you’re just a sound businessman but you should be very, very proud of yourself.

Sorry if I was blunt.

I wish I could combine AD’s friendly, approachable persona, Mickeys voice/video and your business acumen - that would be a winning combination.

I tried to create (this is a first draft, I will brush my hair and smarten up/change camera angle for the final) a similar intro to AD

I think AT'S description page is primitive, its shameful we can't actually write a proper description with paragraphs, its makes us all look stupid.

Less is a lot more in my opinion.

Because it makes almost no difference to my end advert look. If there is a big dent or a scratch I will remove it from that photo and then the dent devil / bodyshop will remove it in real life before the car gets anywhere near a customer. Simon picked up on the wheels not dressed here but they were, in fact you can see spots from the tyre shine on the plastic wheel arch trims and this is what made it look worse. I will tell Nicole, my 13 old daughter to do a better job next time :-)

All looks great to me Nick (apart from the jumbled mess that is AT’s description text that’s beyond your control)

I’d prefer to see exactly the same background each time for the pics where possible too.

I also do silent videos and it works out well, with customers telling me they liked them; but the others are probably right in saying a commentary is better. (However, I think I’ve adapted enough to the new-shape world for the time being at least.)

Mark, fabulous mate !! Really good, a bit too scripted imo, speak from the heart, sell yourself to the customers, you have a trusting face (smile !!) be cheeky, show your personality, relax, flirt with the camera...

Crikey - sounds like a 70's porn film

I appreciate your comments Simon - I am working on it and will send you a final draft.  This was on a whim one evening before I closed up for the day.

Nick your photos are some of the best I've seen. The video doesn't do much for me, definitely needs a voice over which I know doesn't work for everyone.

I can't really add much else apart from I noticed you've wrote the car can be taxed at a post office - surely you would just do it online? Unless it's a different taxation class.

Disabled class DHill. The text usually says can be taxed online.

Well done for spotting it!

how do you get the optional extras cost thingy ?

It's an option on my HPI package, around £2.75 for a spec check.

Are you sure, they are charging us £3.21 for spec checks and we have 2 accounts, one of them for over 40 years !

By the way,I think your ads are excellent. They must impress the punters. We cannot do that !

I doublecked, sorry, they are indeed £3.21 now, up from £2.75

one of the many industry price increases that have gone unnoticed.

Nick, your photos are incredible. Most of us would pay to have them look that good. I didn’t read the description because it looked long and boring. Video is better than nothing I guess

I think the photos are pretty much flawless.

Also you have included a photo of yourself which is really quiet unusual and commendable.

Top marks!

Even if I photoshopped my own photo to make me look slimmer?

Thank you.
