How to get rid of the cheapies you dont really want??

Recommended Posts

Whats the best practice?

when you buy from dealerships you usually have to take some “less desirable” cars along with the gems. The cars you really dont want but have to keep good relations.

What do you do with these? A full frank ebay ad works sometimes but just opens you up to arseholes expecting the world and generally just wasting your time for a car you’re barely breaking even on.

I guess its good to find local traders that you can just flip them on to but again most traders dont want to take the junky stuff.

Jimbo - I know it's not something one should advertise but I specialise in that "junky" stuff and it does really well.

I buy a lot of our stock from other traders like yourself who either aren't interested due to the small margins / potential problems or it would look completely out of place on their pitch.

We're based in St Helens.. so if you're somewhat close by drop me a message with what you have at the moment.

There’s money in those bangers, it’s very rare I actually scrap a car (only 1 last year). I just do a brutally honest video appraisal with an intro stating no idiots / Trade disposal. As long as you are not greedy they usually sell within a week. I also get payment upfront to ensure no messing.

The last one I did was last week, a battered 2005 d4d Verso 150k which owed me £300, sold to a for £1200. Easy money

I’d guess you’re adverts aren’t frank enough - they have to be brutal. Mind you, being close to London you have a lot of Eastern Europeans & Nigerians so you’ll always have a lot of ‘optimistic’ punters.

Depending on the car a fair few of our bangers have been bought for export by the Eastern Europeans and Nigerians.

We're always looking for older Japanese, and even the odd Ford and Vauxhall Jimbo, we're in East Sussex, we prefer lower mileage, with history, not too many owners etc, but are happy to consider outside of those parameters, to be fair I quite enjoy pulling the older cars together and still get satisfaction out of it!!

Thanks mate may well send you a pm if anything comes in.

I think ideally im looking for someone to trade cars to that will pretty much take anything sub £1,000-£1,250. Even if they are old or tatty etc with no s/history and high mileage just so i dont need to worry about how to retail them out again.

There's a coupe or guys I know well Jimbo who are close to us that buy the real cheap stuff, if you're happy to send me details and brief description I'll always forward them on to them. I couldn't say they'd buy everything you offer, but hopefully they could help.  Remember we'll always try to give a good bid for nicer older (so anything from the beginning of time to say 2011) Japanese, Ford and Vauxhall if it doesn't fit your stocking policy.

Those Copart charges can rack up quickly. And as with all auctions, if it 'doesn't' sell the nightmare begins?
