Dire July,

Recommended Posts

well  3 moths in to the new pitch for subprime market and its gone dire. June was a good month with 60% increase on May sales and with a few more finance houses on board we got a nice little panel going of lenders covering the credit spectrum. July hits and we scoop 2 big sales in the first week with £2600 out of two cars with commission on both, Great start. However !!!

The rest of the month we have not sold a car, not one on HP in over 3 weeks. approvals have gone through the roof but no one commits to come down or just ignore our calls and messages. Bear in mind these are poor credit customers who we have placed with specialist lenders and the chancers of them being approved elsewhere with other dealers is possible but unlikely, the usual  first response, advent and money barn wont take on these customers which goes to show the limitedness they have in the market.

Anyhow rant over, I am hoping to break the curse this week and sell some metal on HP. On the other hand mind the bangers have been selling well, 6 sold last week with 2 nice block to block sales, so at least we can keep the lights on :D

Has anyone else had it rough over the last few weeks or is this just my turn for a sale slump ?

Sold 27 cars in feb which was my best month ever, July only 6 but still took a wage. This month has started good with 4 so far :)

If you don't mind me asking Arfur, what do you sell? I've seen previously that you work on appointments and was just wondering.

Even a sub prime customer knows when the rates are crazy high, an approval mean's nothing if your lenders are nailing YOUR customers to the wall !

Who brokers your deals ? have you considering having a trial period elsewhere and see if the numbers pick up ?

Yes, my good run has come to an abrupt halt although I am drastically down on stock. A single phone enquiry from someone who was either drunk, high or mentally impaired and only one arsehole emailer. Time to get out the holiday brochures.

It's painful.

I've done two all week...one was nice and easy. The other took 6 1/2 hours from start to finish on a sub 4k car...never ever would I normally spend that long on a deal but needs must this month!

6.5 hours!!!! They'll be as fussy as fuck & back on the phone in due course. After 90 minutes the other week I kicked two arseholes off the site

Sir, you have the patience of a saint & truly deserve that medal.

To be totally honest the customer was a really nice genuine guy and bought within 20 mins like usual but it was a messy finance application, lots of emails, proofs and phone calls (all for £3500 ) which took the time.

Never again though, my head was banging that evening.

It's a lump of metal shifted on a quiet month though and it all adds up.
