Car Broker

I think we have a few problems here.

I would be interested in the brokering of cars on a small scale, individual cars for buyers. Building a network with dealerships, finding the dealership offering the best deals at any given time and then advertising through social media/website.

What do you mean by 'best deals'? We're not all selling the same colour, same brand, same flavour tin of beans? Not to mention that I can't see social media going mad for a 2014 'crazy low PCP' VX Astra either.

When a car was sold would the dealership write me a cheque for the difference between their sale price and the price I sold to the customer?

Sure. If you ask nicely enough they'll probably let you have a go on their missus aswell. Where's the incentive to buy from you anyway? Buyers sift through every available platform as it is to find the cheapest car. You can't tell me they're not going to see you're banging a few hundred quid on top. I understand you're at the research stage of planning this but you need to understand the fundamentals a lot better.

Anyway, I can't comment further because the Sultan of Brunei is on the other line. He wants a 2010 Bentley Continental in PowderPuff Purple before the weekend. No budget and all my expenses paid. Oh, the jolly life of a car broker!

So, what a funny thread, now i was all in agreement up until Max Branning put his tu'penny's worth in, then i remember hearing about a guy who did exactly this with high end stuff, clever lad, by all accounts, he set up a website and advertised all sorts of high end cars, now i am talking high end cars! using the original dealers pictures and descriptions, when he got a 'bite' he would prop the customer to finance, get the deal all agreed, take a deposit, go to the company that owned the car and buy it... finish the deal off, take a massive finance commision, sit back and rub his hands together - no stock - loads of cash rolling in on everyone elses hard work... he was an ex footballer with capital!! he's done very well for himself and has his own high end stock and now just sources for clients - high end clients... started out as a bit of a leach but made it work...

You are right,I have heard of an ex footballer who played for a lot of lower league teams and now is a footballers car broker.I have checked him out and his company net'd over £100k last year ( so with his drawings on top of that etc) he does very well.               So Caleb ,if you are an ex footballer and know footballers agents ..........you can do it !

I could see the broker idea working with maybe very specialised stuff or very high end Ferrari / Bentley / Classic stuff maybe.

A pop star or pro footballer for example who wants to buy a new car may well employ the services of someone to keep themselves anonymous and deal with the nitty gritty to actually buy the car for them, but to get set up in that position in the first place to where they trust you would be very hard i imagine.

If you could build relationships with dealers that stock this type of vehicle whereby you retain a % of the sale price maybe, a bit like an estate agent. Possibly also charging the client a fee for your services.

pretty sure the agents already do that

I say just go for it. If you have a good idea and have confidence in it, invest all your money into your project, build up your client database and away you go.

On a side note, I want to test your knowledge on an idea of mine. I was thinking of setting up a brokerage firm for the housing market. Do you think it's viable if I go to prospective house sellers on Rightmove. I will then list the property on Facebook and take a commission from the seller. What do you think? I have absolutely no experience in this, but I think it's an easy, hassle-free way to make some easy money? Sounds easy.

On a serious note, what makes you think you are entitled to make any money in this industry without putting hard work or capital into it. You are a complete tool and that's why everyone has responded in this manner.

Probably a better idea than trying to sell a boat in Runcorn.. you expecting someone to take that down the ship canal??

as my mate the trade vet has mentioned AMC who I got my cars off, it's been done and it'll be done again.. someone to take a look outside the box and remove as much risk as possible. The sort of risks where you try and sell boats in Runcorn ha

I don't think having a £50k boat is anything to ridicule, I'd suggest you went to check his credentials and discovered, actually, he's probably doing alright for himself and knows what he's talking about. Anyway, yeah, I'll take your Mum down the ship canal

Look, just get on with it. You've had our advice and you've ignored it. Good luck. Update us in a year. Happy to eat humble pie.

Clever..... Apart from, im at the opposite end of the country to Runcorn. You just don't have a clue about any of this and every one who was had the misfortune to read this forum knows that (I suspect you know it too, otherwise you wouldn't be asking..... You'd be doing!)

Listen Phil, stop giving it the big un like you've cracked the game.. your selling 12 year old £1500 Renaults..and absolute rust buckets by the sound of it as well seeing as you've got that court appearance.

If someone doesn't know every in and out of a business, is your advice not to waste your time with it? If that was the case no one would have a job you gimp.. I'm guessing you just fell out of your mums flaps with an immediate knowledge of all things cars and business?

If you've got the capital it's pretty straight forward.. I've never touched a paint brush

And yet cars are still sat on the forecourt.. I'm sure they wouldn't mind someone else pushing there cars to no extra cost to them. And the margins aren't that tight where they wouldn't give you a few hundred quid off

We don't mind people pushing our cars for us, its called ebay motors, the local paper AT, Car Gurus, Motors.co.uk, Facebook and walk ons.

Your idear is not going to work for so many reasons pointed out already, It may work as Max said on high end vehicles but in that game it takes a long time to become trusted and build a name and lot of cash.
