BCA - no longer allowed to open bonnets

Here I am at BCA Bedford who have decided that you're no longer allowed to open a bonnet and the drivers aren't allowed to rev a car above 2,000 rpm.

Apparently it'll be rolled out nationwide.

On near new stock it wouldn't bother me so much but on the sub £5k that I buy there's no way I can risk it. May aswell go down the casino and gamble my money...

UPDATE: amazing scenes! We all got together and chanted no more bidding. Everyone out of the auction hall. Bonnets open again!

They did this down BCA bridgwater for a while and dealers got on the offensive and now you can open bonnets as well as blackbushe. I always open them anyway and rev the engine and some engines will be quiet as a mouse until they are revved then they rattle like mad with a fault.

They can probably ban the opening of bonnets by non BCA staff,if the driver refuses to open the bonnet just shout out to  the auctioneer when it is in the ring." Can you inform everyone that I have been told this car has a heavy oil leak from the cylinder head. They would have to open the bonnet .

Can they not ban private punters,that would be better.

i would always bid low if i couldnt view under a bonnet

of course if i got there early and the bonnet cable just happened to fall off after i viewed a beauty then you aint seen nutting right

Well I was at Bedford and somebody was prevented opening the bonnet on an Audi...which still went on to sell online for £1500 more than I would have paid and I thought my valuation was high.

I agree though, it's just stupid.

Badly. Peterborough is a no and Bedford is a no. Nottingham sometimes.

It's been said before but "halfway mate" can either mean fine or knackered depending on which driver. I've taken to watching their feet now.

If I can't  jump in and have a feel of the clutch, rev and see if electrics working inside, I usually don't bother bidding. Manheim Wimbledon use to have about 10 cars idling with no driver so was easy. I ain't been there in a while though because of the prices of the shite they sell there.

I dropped in last week and it appears you can jump in again when they are first started. They used to be quite strict about not letting you in them.

It has to be said that the vendors do have a point, I remember being at BCA Enfield on a Saturday morning when a bunch of young guys were "red lining" every BMW there, if they were my cars I'd be mightly pissed off...?

I also know one particularly trader that, on a saturday when the auction is full of mostly private punters, deliberately 'crunches' the gears when trying the clutch to make the cars appear to have a problem

I remember going up to a trader doing exactly that. I was  shaking my head saying 'gearbox knackered', him agreeing. Know and behold 5 minutes later he sees me out bidding him on the same car. Let's just say he wasn't amused.

Although, I was sitting in a car last week getting the feel of a clutch and a guy stuck his head in the window and asked "how was the clutch". I thought the bite was right at the top and I told him. I got out and he jumped in, I asked him if he agreed and he didn't, each to their own I guess. It's interesting to see what some guys think is acceptable?

You don't need to open the bonnet on BCA cars, The amazing BCA assured scheme will mean the car is mint and there is no need to check or inspect the vehicle. Rest assured its been checked by fully trained professional who has detailed every defect on a comprehensive report for you to read at your leisure.

  I am so glad I do not buy from BCA.

I'm not a fan of BCA either, but I think you'll find its the vendors that insist on the resrictions with 'revving' and 'bonnets' rather than the auction themselves as such.

I'm not so sure... same vendor rep at different branches... different rules seem to apply...
