White cars

White is the new black, or at least it seems ok to buy a white car these days. If its a 'prestige'/performance car then it seems white has to also include 'drug dealer rims' and 'gangsta' glass'. But, are older cars still a struggle to sell in white?

I remember a story from a few years back when I had a couple over to view a car. The wife liked my blue car but the husband preferred something he'd seen elsewhere, obviously white. They had a huge row and she said "I'm not driving around in a f***ing fridge!". I'm guessing times have changed?

I took a 1995 M Reg Nissan Micra 1.0 with 30k miles in part exchange the other day, finished in 'Hotpoint' white. No power steering, thought I would actually have to convert it into a fridge, as nobody would want it! Sold it the very next day, in less that 24 hours.....

Not sure if this was the sort of feedback you were looking for though... 

I always have issues with green cars, annoyingly, they are always the ones with low mileage and perfect service history, with a nice National Trust sticker in the window, do love a national trust sticker.....

White cars can look smart as long as all the trim is colour coded, white cars with loads of black trim looks poverty spec. But yes white cars are highly desirable just sold a white Alfa Mito, chap drove down 80 miles away because it had to be white.

I pay more for them and they certainly sell for more in a lot of models. 

White BMWs and Audis are a good bet as are most cars I find.

Same here. White fly's out the door, especially if it's a car targeted at younger drivers >45. However I often find OAP'S don't like it.

White cars generally are more expensive to purchase, but fetch more also.

Black is still a safe colour and preferred by the vast majority.

Worst colour in my opinion is green, followed by navy, followed by wine/red

I don't understand why white is so popular these days but combined with the right spec it certainly is in demand.  

Used to be that white was for ex-police / services and poverty spec only.

I've never seen anything like it. I remember in my early days having an Escort Finesse colour coded in white and I couldn't give it away, how times change. It's almost getting to the point where you could buy a car in underpants blue, respray or wrap it white and still have profit in it.

..... and white Astras.

I remember back in the 80s when a white Mercedes would only sell to a wedding hire company or turn into a "landmark", whereas now its right up there with silver and black.

Let's hope white stays popular because with all these prestige vehicles finished in white it will be tough to sell an 'AMG' fridge!

Interesting about white cars.. back in early 80..to 90 ..If I saw a White it was usually a Vauxhall with the private number plates of ' JCB..' All their cars except the CEO were white cars.. in years to come they changed to silver due to residual value .. amazing how the times change !

It also has to be said that 'white' has benefited hugely from the superior paint finishes attainable now. The quality of modern paint finishes is astonishing and 'modern' white has a depth of shine that can even match black; not even Mercedes could achieve that back in the 80s/90s.

In my neck of the woods white is still 'red hot'. Lots of prestige high end dealers are obviously focusing on white as 'the' colour. Some of these same 'high end' dealers are making small features of white cars, gathering them together on the front like a line of big expensive fridges. A Ford dealership near me has done exactly the same with 'red' cars, do they know something we dont

White used to be known as 90 Day White, as that's how long they used to stay on the pitch.

I think that 'white' is going to go down kicking and screaming. I can't see all those big luxury Mercs/BMW looking good in bright red, like a line of fire engines

its called death blue up here

because you knew you were trying to flog a dead horse pushing this colour so they always did poor money in the block, i used to get them bottom end silver resprayed if on something like a ford fiasco

the only people who bought it were people whom colours meant nothing to they just wanted a reliable car in this weather and of course a good heater

We still call white cars Essex handbags... I remember buying a white XR3i years ago and finding a pair of white stilettoes and a white whip in the boot!!

You can talk! I thought with all the premier league footballers that live in Cheshire you'd be choked with white RRs?
