  1. My Covea insurance policy contains this clause: We will not pay for: 1. any vehicle: (i) in or on the Business Premises; or (ii) on a road at or within 400 metres of the Business Premises, unless in the course of a journey. Mine have been locked inside my unit up until now, but I need to move them outside in public view to release space. Is this clause normal? Surely all those stocks of cars inside and outside car dealers are insured?! It makes the policy pretty useless - only covers test drives, collecting and delivering the vehicle, and taking to MoT stations etc. Given then spend 99% of their time on the business premises, the policy seems virtually worthless.
  2. Good afternoon everyone. I have problems in finding an insurance company that is willing to insure my new motortrade business. They do not even quote me, as if I am a deffinite risk. I am a taxi driver, but some say they can not take into account my 1 year taxi NCB. I have been driving professionally for the last 5 years, vans, taxis, etc. I have never had any accidents, I am FCA approved, I have a BCA membership, I have obtained my trade plates, I am running as a LTD company, I have rented a private car park, and I only want a third party insurance and test drive so I can move my cars between workshops, valeting locations etc, and for my possible clients to be able to test the cars. I have tried Bollington, they have also tried Tradewise with my details. No luck. No one wants to insure me and they do not give me a clear reason. I have invested so much effort into this, and it seems I can not do this professionally as I intend to. What is there to do? Thank you in advance for your advice.
  3. Hi, I want to move my insurance off trade insurance to ordinary personal car insurance, I'm running into the problem that I can't find anyone who will accept my 9 years no claims bonus and consequently it is looking pretty pricey! does anyone have any ideas or know of a broker or insurance company that can help?
  4. Hi all, I've recently returned from 20 years living abroad, and wish to return to selling used cars.I was working from home 40 years ago and have been out of the trade that long.I am currently living in a small house with no drive but outside street parking.Selling from home is a no no? If i have to tax and re register very vehicle before sale thats not going to work really is it? I have seen a 100 sq metre warehouse on an industrial estate 5 minutes from home with outside parking for 4 cars.Rent 8k a year plus usuall expenses.I guess i could get at least 15 cars overall on the site.In your opinion is this a viable business model? Really appreciate any input,thanks........

  6. Assume a collision happen during the test drive, and the car got damaged. No one injured, no third-party property damage. Will you claim insurance? Or, will you ask the punter to pay for it?
  7. Hi All My names Steve and i'm an alcoholic oops wrong forum. After living overseas for a few years and been buying and selling there I'm going to be chancing my arm here (very different market to the my previous, although i did buy and sell here many years ago) I've been reading the forum for a while and it seems there are lots of well informed people here which is why I've joined, I have a question regarding trade insurance. Had a few quotes in and have narrowed the choice down to two companies, Bollington and Geffion, has anybody had dealings with either or both of these and what were your experiences ?. Prices quoted were reasonable i think considering fully comp cover, 1 years NCB, trading from home, off road parking, personal car included, and stock value up to £5k. both companies came in around £1400. with what appears to be very similar policies, the only difference being one company supplying trade plates and an app for adding cars to policy. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Steve
  8. Hi All, I’m new here and wanted some advice pls, I have a stock car which was hit from behind and now has been written off by the insurance company, 3rd party admitted fault, the insurance company have asked for all paper work which I have sent, but the V5 was not on my name due to filling out the trader part. They have asked me to prove the vehicle is mine? By contacting DVLA and requesting this information. Has anyone been through this? If so, is this normal? As when I called DVLA they have said I need to write in and they will check it is in trade and this could take up to another month (been 2 months already) Any help is appreciated......

  14. Ok I a have done the search through the normal channels, looking to start up on a part time trade ( I'm not sure the insurance is any different as the cover is the same) Any how looking for a first policy, have a full bonus to shift across, no penaltys.. 40+ years old with one 40+ named driver. would be looking to have a couple of personal on there,(maybe the single item limits are low on some though) as well as cars traded. I see a few names, and most say go through a decent broker, I see the name Covea comes up a bit, a few have said they use LV, through a broker...what broker though? As I don't think they all use whole of market. Thank you all.
  15. Hi there, I work for an insurance broker looking after large main dealers but we are more often now receiving new business enquiries for car dealers just starting up and with no NCB or premises. It seems the insurers do not want to touch this type of risk. Does anyone have an experience with this? Many thanks,
  16. Hello! I came to the uk with my '98 ford puma from Germany and i am looking to take it back to the continent, given that it's left hand drive and all that. It's German insurance and TUV (German MOT) expired so i am not allowed to drive it anymore. 19. Hi, I am after a bit of advice re MID requirements as I'm a bit confused (in fact even more so after speaking to my insurance company!) and would be interested to know what you all do. Currently, I only put cars on the MID that are to be used on the road (or were still taxed under the old system), but I read somewhere that any vehicle that has been in my possession for more than 14 days meeds to be on there, even if they are just sat on my forecourt for sale. I had thought that if vehicles were 'in trade' (i.e. yellow slip sent off) then the 'continuous insurance' regulations didn't apply? It was my understanding that untaxed vehicles that are to be used on the road with Trade Plates did not need to be on the MID? My confusion is further compounded as I have a number of vehicles on SOR, both from the 'public' and other dealers - speaking to my insurer this morning, it appears that they also need to be on my MID as they are in my possession, albeit not my ownership? Does anybody have a definitive answer?
  20. Just read an article that says form next year :https://www.abi.org.uk/Insurance-and-savings/Topics-and-issues/Insurance-industry-access-to-driver-data Insurance companies may start asking for driving licence numbers before quoting - as One on Five under declare their motoring convictions! I personally think its a great idea. What do you think about that ?
