£1200 a year for the accounts plus £100 for VAT every qtr plus £100 each for both directors' personal income taxes plus £50 a year for dormant accounts of a limited company we have but do not use (registered it to make sure the name doesn't get taken by someone else but we don't trade under it)

I now feel stupid for re-reading the Lawgistics PDI pad (which I should know by heart) straight after your post

Which is true and which is exactly what you said so fair play. I want to see more threads here about wealth management and investments. Anyone going to the Geneva Motor Show next month and to visit their money?

+1. Why aim at £2K margin when some cars in the same price range carry twice as much. Want a razor thin 3% margin? Start an airline.

CDX 2019: Details of two key workshops revealed!
Nick M.K. replied to Dave Brown's topic in General Dealer Chat
If you sell windows, glass, bibles and sniper rifles... CDX is to do with motor trade where the above three are a NO NO And I will be in the audience asking tricky questions about retail preferences to gloss, satin or matt finishes- 19 replies

Are they also local to me, post code HP8?

It’s 2019. The customer’s patience is measured in minutes not days. Have the cars FULLY ready to go and pride yourself on the speed of service and ruthless efficiency, customers appreciate that just as much if not more than full 12 months MOT.
-
Hi, welcome to the motor trade! Exciting times ahead!

There was a more efficient solution than that, a whole tool set which everyone said could remove anything. Obviously before posting on here I have tried a couple of possible solutions with the only result my wasted time :-)

What was the name of that locking wheel nut removal tool that was recommended here a while ago??

I’d say get it checked and MOTed by the third party as soon as it comes in. The customer might get a MOT shorter by a month but the peace of mind that your compliance will bring you far outweighs the tiny inconvenience for them.
-
My favourite buyers are the ones that want to take the car right now and travel 50+ miles to get to me. No one ever complained about the MOT not being for full 12 months.
-
Now is the time to put the prices on the remaining stock up.
-
Not only that, if they come on the premises and do a spot inspection on a few stock vehicles you'll have better defence if one of them is found unroadworthy.
-
Always before. Stuff gets picked up that the PDI might've missed. The car is ready to drive away with no surprises and even if it stays in stock for 2 months I've never had someone demand a 12 month test. My advert text will be changed at some point from FULL MOT to New (or Recent) MOT to Long MOT.

The CTEK needing a recharge? You just plug it in the wall, it doesn’t need a recharge. Starting up cars in the unit? What do you mean? Leave the battery to drain and die, then jump start? -

The previous private plate that now shows finance was on my Mini from Feb to Nov 2007! And the AA Check explains that quite well. The car is too old for my stocking plan but if it was on it they would see it on their AA Check and run for dear life... -
Recommended battery charger for under £100

I am on my phone so will struggle with an image upload but in a nutshell: they want to view a £2850 2007 Mini on Sat and I have of course offered to reserve it with a small deposit. Their AA Check shows that a private plate that was on the Mini 12 years ago (for 7 months!) now has finance against it on a 2018 Discovery. They are very rattled by this to my complete amusement :-) i have explained everything and they are transferring the deposit after I sent them a WhatsApp video to show them some kerbing on the alloys. -

You are like me, an easy decisive buyer. Imagine a world where all punters buy cars like that :-) Meanwhile: “Hi Nick, thank you for the close up video. We are ready to pay a deposit to hold the car but we have done an AA car check (which we always do when buying a used car) and an alert has come up regarding a previous plate and outstanding finance ??. Are you able to provide the VIN chassis number, V5 serial number and V5 document issue date as these have been asked for the additional checks by the AA Car Check. Many thanks.” -

A 30 car site will save the money by not running the engines in the first month alone :-) -

Modern batteries like to be charged slowly. This charger / maintainer will need good 4-5 hours if not longer to charge a battery fully but does it so slowly that it doesn't wear it as it charges it. With your stock inside a unit the charger will be in use all the time, shifted from car to car every day. If you have one with an old battery it can actually revive and improve it using one of the charging modes. It uses pulsating current which removes layers of sulphur (or sulphate, not sure) from the battery plates. You absolutely need to have one.
